Trump lawyer drops libel suits against Fusion GPS, BuzzFeed "The document, compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, made unverified claims that Cohen had suspicious ties to Russian figures. Fusion GPS was the firm behind the dossier, and BuzzFeed published the document shortly before Trump’s inauguration last year. http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/383888-trump-lawyer-drops-libel-suits-against-fusion-gps-buzzfeed Michael Cohen’s Own Attorney Isn’t Swearing to His Story Regarding Steele Dossier "Even Michael Cohen‘s own attorney isn’t swearing to his client’s claims regarding the accuracy of the Steele dossier as it relates to Michael Cohen." https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/michael-cohens-own-attorney-isnt-swearing-to-his-story-regarding-steele-dossier/ So Cohen and his new legal council has accepted that the representations within the Steele Dossier are in fact true. They will not defend civil nor criminal actions against him on those issues and representations.

Trump’s former attorney warned him not to trust Cohen: report "One of President Trump's former attorneys said he urged the president not to trust Michael Cohen to fully protect him, and warned that Cohen would eventually cooperate with federal prosecutors. The attorney, Jay Goldberg, told the Wall Street Journal that he spoke to Trump on the phone last Friday. In that call, he reportedly told Trump that on a scale of 1 to 100, where 100 represents full protection of the president, Cohen "isn't even a 1." "Michael will never stand up [for you]," Goldberg said he told Trump.... he warned Trump that Cohen could agree to cooperate with prosecutors if enough pressure is exerted on him. Yet this generates little coverage due to the background noise of the trump administration. I mean all the other corruption, legal actions, FBI investigations and distractions from trump.

"There’s an unsettling of the spirit moving across the land — the culmination of years of religious Christian corruption. Good people everywhere are sensing it deep within. What for many has been a growing source of suspicion is now becoming a certainty. A time of emerging clarity is upon us as the curtains are drawn open and the true wizard is revealed. Yet, there will be no clicking of the heels to save us now. For the American dream is being diabolically hijacked into the conservative evangelical scheme — God help us all. In my estimation, there is truly no greater evil being wielded upon the earth. The false gospel of evangelical Christianity has long been eroding our society, creating spiritual junkies, and asserting a white, male, heterosexual imperialism and privilege into every segment of our living. Its prescriptions for sin management only serve to further increase it, leaving good people spiritually strung out, hypocritical, self-righteous, and addicted to the poison, not the cure. With an insistence upon believing that God is angry, vengeful, and condemning of a sin-ladened humanity, followers spiritually justify a self-deputization to police society as they live out their perceived calling to convert the world to their privileged ideology — lest we all burn in hell. No matter the nobility of some with their good intentions and heart, the true aspirations, pursuits, and passions of much of conservative evangelical Christianity are not true freedom and equality for all, but religious power and control for them. In their minds and hearts, the ushering in of the Kingdom of God is, in reality, the ushering in of a white, male, heterosexual, conservative evangelical dominance in all places and things." https://www.redletterchristians.org/conservative-evangelical-christianity-the-death-of-america/ Red-Letter Christians constitute a non-denominational movement within Christianity. Proponents of the movement believe that Christianity, and especially evangelicalism, has been exploited by both right-wing and left-wing political movements and become too partisan and politicized. As a response they endeavor to create an evangelical movement that focuses on the teachings of Jesus Christ, particularly in regard to social issues. The two most prominent figures associated with the movement are Jim Wallis and Tony Campolo.[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-Letter_Christian

Trump's personal lawyer names mystery client: Sean Hannity
Phil1111 replied to skymiles's topic in Speakers Corner
From the article: Yet Hannity then said he “might have handed” Cohen $10 and said, “I want attorney-client privilege on this.” It’s not clear whether that would meet the legal standard to establish an attorney-client privilege. That made me think of a Hollywood scene. But I discovered an author on Wapo thought of it before I did: https://www.google.com/search?ei=5PzVWtr1K5GzjwSuloSAAw&q=site%3Awashingtonpost.com+Sean+Hannity%E2%80%99s+idea+of+%E2%80%98attorney-client+privilege%E2%80%99+was+right+out+of+%E2%80%98Breaking+Bad%E2%80%99&oq=site%3Awashingtonpost.com+Sean+Hannity%E2%80%99s+idea+of+%E2%80%98attorney-client+privilege%E2%80%99+was+right+out+of+%E2%80%98Breaking+Bad%E2%80%99&gs_l=psy-ab.3...13791.19856.0.20651.25.25.0.0.0.0.104.1321.22j1.23.0....0...1c.1j2.64.psy-ab..2.5.427...0j0i67k1j0i131k1j0i131i67k1j0i131i46i67k1j46i131i67k1j0i10k1.0.51L2r-3M9VM Here is the scene: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x15nfmd The line comes at 2:50. Jesus cared for the poor, the sick, the elderly, the children, the outsider.... That is exactly what today's GOP and its leader do NOT do. As did Mother Teresa, but I digress. Perhaps Ron is right! trumps support sits at 38% today. After two "blockbuster books" on his presidency with many more to come. After FBI raids and multiple admissions of criminal offense of his associates. With convictions of others to come. Americans still support trump and Ron is not the only one. Just as there are supporters of Putin, Assad, Rodrigo Duterte, et al. "A Fascist, observes Madeleine Albright, “is someone who claims to speak for a whole nation or group, is utterly unconcerned with the rights of others, and is willing to use violence and whatever other means are necessary to achieve the goals he or she might have." Thats precisely why: "The White House has walked back a plan to impose new sanctions on Russia over its support for the Bashar al-Assad regime following the recent chemical weapons attack in Syria. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley had announced over the weekend that the penalties would be unveiled today. According to the Washington Post, there had been internal confusion in the White House over the plan, and after Haley spoke, Trump “conferred with his national security advisers … and told them he was upset the sanctions were being officially rolled out because he was not yet comfortable executing them.” https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/04/lets-get-this-straight-trump-wont-sanction-russia-is-totally-fine-risking-a-war-with-them.html

Says who? A lawyer I was listening to on the radio. He said Tr could make a case for it if there was no direct evidence linking it to the campaign but that he would need to demonstrate a history of paying women for their silence that was unchanged going into the election. Well if they are all NDA's how could "history" be established?

Comey Action against trump for Libel & Slander
Phil1111 replied to Phil1111's topic in Speakers Corner
Obama ethics chief: Comey could sue Trump for libel and might win The top White House ethics lawyer under President Obama said he believes former FBI director James Comey could sue President Trump for libel. The comments come as Trump continues to lash out at Comey after the former FBI director denounced Trump during a scathing interview with ABC News. "This false, malicious accusation of criminal conduct is libel per se by Trump. @Comey could sue—& might win," Norm Eisen tweeted Monday. "Despite absolute official immunity, open legal question whether defamation using personal Twitter may be outside its scope. See Nixon v Fitzgerald." http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/383349-obama-ethics-chief-comey-could-sue-trump-for-libel-and-might-win In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that the President is entitled to absolute immunity from liability for civil damages based on his official acts. The court emphasized that the President is not immune from criminal charges stemming from his official (or unofficial) acts while in office. The court noted that a grant of absolute immunity to the President would not leave the President with unfettered power. The Court stated that there were formal and informal checks on presidential action that did not apply with equal force to other executive officials. The court observed that the President was subjected to constant scrutiny by the press. It noted that vigilant oversight by Congress would also serve to deter presidential abuses of office, as well as to make credible the threat of impeachment. The court determined that other incentives to avoid misconduct existed, including a desire to earn reelection, the need to maintain prestige as an element of presidential influence, and a President's traditional concern for his historical stature. This decision was clarified by Clinton v. Jones, in which the Court held that a President is subject to civil suits for actions committed before he assumes the presidency.[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nixon_v._Fitzgerald -
As I understand, it's not unusual for attorneys to have specialized practices. One issue that this brings up is that if Cohen was already doing this before Trump was running for office then these things can be dismissed as not being illegal campaign contributions. I think we all know that Trump has a long history of paying his way out of compromising situations with females. Well everyone knows trump was his own lawyer. Until he fired himself as his own counsel over a billing dispute.

Which would be legitimate if they were purely political partisan attacks. But concealing payoffs to porn stars and other high crimes. Should be paid for by trump personally. Not by tax deductible political donations.

More than 20 percent of Trump campaign spending this year has gone to legal fees President Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign has spent more than 22 percent on legal fees so far this year, according to the latest fundraising reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. The campaign has spent around $835,000 in legal fees in the first few months of 2018.... The two legal firms involved in the fight with Daniels — Harding LLP and Larocca, Hornik, Rosen, Greenberg & Blaha — were paid a combined total of $280,000. The most donor spending — $350,000 — went to Jones Day, the firm that has represented the Trump campaign since the 2016 election and handled all litigation relating to it, Buzzfeed reported. About $125,000 was spent by the campaign at Trump-owned businesses, hotels and restaurants. The campaign has also made 20 different purchases from Amazon, notable because the president has been attacking the company on Twitter this month. Johnny McEntee, Trump’s former personal assistant who was forced out when he couldn’t be get security clearance, was hired by the campaign in March. Reports indicate that he was paid $22,000. The campaign has raised over $10.1 million so far this year. They have spent $3.9 million and reported have $28.3 million cash on hand. http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/383279-more-than-20-percent-of-trump-2020-campaign-spending-has-gone-to

I give you credit for leaving if principals in helping your clients was compromised by interoffice politics. However presidents of corporations have a duty to shareholders. So do its employees. The president had a duty to the people and the rule of law. Not himself and his circle of underlings. The inner gang so to speak. If an employee discovers that a president of a corporation is acting to personally profit. To undermine the law and interests of the corporation. Then they have a duty to inform the board of directors, CFO, etc.
