Shelter in place? That's for the little people.
Phil1111 replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
Foolish parents raise foolish children. They may be sorry when little Johnny goes to visit Grandma in a week. -
Tisk, tisk its morning and clearly the electrons are only going single phase! trump has after 31/2 years, has surrounded himself with people that only move when he tells them to move. Lest they upstage him. Imagine a minion...er..."Tzar" that got credit for doing something necessary and media-worthy. Their heads would roll in a day.

Wanna bet in the end the Obama bailout will have more to show for the dollar than what trump has to show for it?
-
Give trump credit. IMO psychology is the first step in understanding the motivations of a individual. trump was never a salesman per se. As daddy gave him his start, then investors and finally bankers. But I digress. He understands the base instincts of his base. fear and greed. Most voters will know a little bit that these payouts are nothing less than a bribe. Its all about Nov,3. Dress the pandemic up as a war. Dress trump up as the war president. But the best is yet to come. All of the larger US corporations will have to come begging to the WH. trump has announced that he, er the US government wants to take equity positions in these corporations for these bailouts. OH! the photo-ops to come. trump showing voters what a great negotiator he is. Personally driving "tough" deals. $1000 .... thats just for the base of the base. The checkbook is wide open. If history has shown past investors, bankers, states, employees, anything. trump loves a open bank.

IMO he wants to be seen as a president at war. To enjoy the photo op's. press conferences, etc. Naturally he has Pence as the fall guy, good thinking on his behalf. If it all goes wrong. Because its a war footing and emergency he can bail out his corporate buddies who come to the WH cap in hand.Paying appropriate homage to him first of course. Disperse the helicopter cash directly to voters in a election year. But the dirty, gritty detail work of national co-ordination to address national needs. Is something a errand boy does. If he thought he wouldn't get dirty. Picture him throwing out masks and gloves to doctors and patients. For a nice photo op. Like the paper towels he threw in Puerto Rico Make us ventilators to fight coronavirus, UK asks Ford and Rolls Royce "Britain has asked manufacturers including Ford (F.N), Honda (7267.T) and Rolls Royce (RR.L) to help make health equipment including ventilators to cope with the coronavirus outbreak and will look at using hotels as hospitals.... Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke to more than 60 manufacturing businesses and organizations to ask them to help step up the production of “vital medical equipment” such as ventilators for the National Health Service, a spokeswoman for his Downing Street office said. “The Prime Minister made clear that responding to coronavirus and reducing the spread of the peak requires a national effort,” the spokeswoman said.' Canadian auto suppliers in talks to build ventilators, masks during coronavirus crisis "Canadian automotive industry leaders and government officials are attempting to strike commercial agreements with medical device companies to redeploy their idled production lines to make ventilators, masks and other vital equipment to treat people affected by the coronavirus.... Canadian automotive industry leaders and government officials are attempting to strike commercial agreements with medical device companies to redeploy their idled production lines to make ventilators, masks and other vital equipment to treat people affected by the coronavirus.... Current discussions include whether autoparts companies can be licensed to produce the equipment, alongside a purchasing commitment from the Canadian government. Canada also has a federal stockpile of equipment that it has been distributing as requested to the provinces, Hajdu said. Manufacturers in France and elsewhere have been shifting operations to produce items such as hand sanitizers, masks and other protective gear. U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has urged automakers to pull together as they did during the Second World War, saying they “cannot make too many” ventilators. "

It seems to me that the president can order 24 hour a day production of needed equipment and supplies using the Defense Production Act. Governors have no such authority. They have the ability to buy from out of state suppliers the same as a hospital or corporate buyer. The President can order supplies be sent to the US State, or hospital in need. Rather than the fulfillment of orders from non-medical buyers from both inside and outside the US. In addition the president can order companies with productive capabilities to immediately produce needed medical supplies. Governors have no such lawful provisions. In addition the federal government can direct supplies to the most needed regions. Rather than individual governors buying in excess of their needs while other states needs go unfulfilled. There are shortages. There is no all out production of equipment to meet that need. ONLY federal law has the power of the Defense Production Act.It seems as if national co-ordination is better than ad-hoc pursuit of limited supplies by 55 states and territories. This is aside of course the president ordering the scouring of the US military for supplies. From all military supply depo's. Which no state governor would have access to. Why would he sign this act if he had no intent of implementing it to fulfill the shortage of needed medical equipment? Do you honestly think that presidential co-ordination of the aforementioned act. Means that these supplies would have to be shipped twice? Shipped to two different locations, rather than from the manufacturer directly to the hospital in need?

Redefining leadership hour by hour. ‘We’re not a shipping clerk’: Trump tells governors to step up efforts to get medical supplies "President Donald Trump on Thursday put the onus on governors to obtain the critical equipment their states need to fight the coronavirus pandemic, telling reporters that the federal government is “not a shipping clerk” for the potentially life-saving supplies. Appearing at the daily press briefing of the White House coronavirus task force, the president defended his decision to invoke the Defense Production Act — which would allow the administration to direct U.S. industry to ramp up production of emergency medical provisions — without actually triggering the statute.. Despite those measures, the Trump administration has not completed a comprehensive assessment to determine the full scope of supplies that will need to be ordered, according to current and former administration officials, and his invoking the DPA does not do anything to increase production of those items. " ‘At War With No Ammo’: Doctors Say Shortage of Protective Gear Is Dire "With coronavirus cases soaring, doctors, nurses and other front-line medical workers across the United States are confronting a dire shortage of masks, surgical gowns and eye gear to protect them from the virus. In interviews, doctors expressed soaring anxiety, fearing they could expose not only themselves to the virus, but their families and others. "

While Boeing handsomely rewarded its CEO, This is the 737 MAX CEO Boeing's fired CEO could walk away with a $60 million golden parachute Boeing Increases CEO's Pay 27% to $23.4 Million for Last Year It bought back $43 billion of its own stock. "one of the heftier spenders of recent years has been aerospace giant Boeing. The company might seem an odd candidate for a big buyback programme. Its civil aviation business involves huge multiyear projects in which billions of dollars of capital are put at risk. The programme for the 787 Dreamliner, for instance, lasted eight years and cost $32bn. Yet Boeing has found the financial space to splurge on its own stock. Between 2013 and the end of the first quarter of this year, it retired a net 200m shares, handing back $43bn to holders. While it piled up debt to pay for that stock buyback. After seven years in which shareholders gorged on $43 billion on stock buybacks. Its in Washington for handouts, in the amount of $60 billion, which trump supports.

trump has never been a details type of person. Instead of addressing the C-19 situation he is looking to re-election. C-19 is just an excuse for him to save America "Trump team’s new mission: Defend the ‘wartime president’ First there will be the rotary wing air assault. The disinformation campaign. and why C-19 is all politics for trump.

The Bear view: Bill Ackman Warns CNBC That ‘Hell is Coming’ JP Morgan economist says U.S. GDP could drop 14% in second-quarter IMO they are both nutty, but the NYSE bottom is a ways away.
-
If you have a view of the markets that they are going to go down you're a bear. If you believe they are going to go up you're a bull. Bulls will jump in because they think its reached bottom. Bears will still think its got further to go down. Hence they wouldn't be buyers. Until they believed the market had reached bottom. Then they become bullish, hence buyers.
-
I think you mean the bulls will jump in.

IMO the people that believe in him have such a narrow, firm set of political ideologies as to be a determent to normal democracy. Today however he did finally do something right. Coronavirus Live Updates: Trump Invokes Law That Could Increase Supply of Ventilators and Masks "Trump invokes the Defense Production Act to increase supplies of vital equipment. President Trump moved Wednesday to send military hospital ships to areas hard-hit by the coronavirus and to invoke a law allowing the federal government to order American industry to produce critically-needed medical equipment. The actions follow the Trump administration’s slow initial response to the global crisis that left the United States facing shortages of tests, hospital beds and equipment." Waaaaay too late but better late than never.

Eight percent is properly emphasized. On a major US news channel the other day they had a story about the crisis in Italy. A elderly woman, over 60 at least, probably fifty lbs overweight and suffering from coronavirus . Had just been turned away from a hospital for lack of a bed. She was in tears and distraught in a public square in front of the hospital. Being comforted by her family. This crisis is tearing Italy up and will cause lasting damage. Today Andrew Cuomo in on the news outlining what he is doing in NY. How he had managed to snag a USN hospital ship to be docked in NY harbor. With over 1,000 beds and trained staff ready to receive NY residents. Thats leadership. Setting aside of course its likely needed there most. Where are the other governors fighting for other such national assets to protect their constituents? Why should it be grab what you can in masks, test kits, etc. Its a dog eat dog crisis every state for itself?

That is a ridiculous statement used by the right and the left. To deflect criticism of their political position. To obfuscate the liability of their political tribe associated with their leadership. The blame game,cop-out,deflect responsibility, blame big and small government. As if its led by someone other than their leaders.

U.S. Virus Plan Anticipates 18-Month Pandemic and Widespread Shortages The 100-page federal plan laid out a grim prognosis and outlined a response that would activate agencies across the government. "A federal government plan to combat the coronavirus warned policymakers last week that a pandemic “will last 18 months or longer” and could include “multiple waves,” resulting in widespread shortages that would strain consumers and the nation’s health care system. The 100-page plan, dated Friday, the same day President Trump declared a national emergency, laid out a grim prognosis for the spread of the virus and outlined a response that would activate agencies across the government and potentially employ special presidential powers to mobilize the private sector." Somehow speaking the truth to the American people from the WH wasn't part of the equation. It was the NYT that had to do that.

No, thats a couple election cycles ago. He has someone else now.......OK ... good one. But if trump can get by with Pence, a trooper, ok airman, like McCain could carry her.
-
The largest reason why I get so riled up about trump is how dangerous this type of sh*t is. Most people don't follow national issues or political issues closely. Lying about important issues is corrosive to the national social fabric, its divisive and it destroys the trust in government. CNN blows everything out of proportion concerning trump idiocy. But lying isn't a part of that equation. Imagine if John McCain was president now. How different the national debate would be. How the national response would be focused, intelligent and so much more successful. Hypocrisy, didn't exist in Mr. McCain.

IMO the Moon Government of S. Korea did a very good job. There is not allot of information on the S. Korea response. But after the virus was spread by a church group. They initiated a all out attack. Massive testing, appropriate quarantines when necessary. They started way behind the curve but sure ramped up quickly. The US has some natural advantages in the current war. Oceans on two sides with limited number of infections on both other land borders. CDC, a great resource. The 8-10th ranked medical system in the world, skilled armed forces. trump has yet to apply himself. Trump Is Hurting the Economy by Linking Coronavirus to Immigration Its as if serious national issues are but one more chance to turn it into political football.

Tesla stock drops after hours as county says Fremont factory is not an ‘essential business’ Elon is a little arrogant when it concerns the law. Probably a bad idea and bad PR move.

A couple years ago I started a thread about what trump was doing right. After a couple replies it died out due to lack of supporting facts. About a week ago I posted that trump was right in using low oil prices to fill up the national strategic petroleum reserve. Damnit.... I made another mistake I fell for your lure again..!...
-
Yes I fell for your trolling once before. Stupid of me! Seriously I'm seldom wrong about trump and I was ripping him well before he was elected. I changed my mind about HRC and Bill Clinton. I used to think they were a pair of P.O.S. But they have noting on trump. So I was somewhat wrong about them.

Trump says he knew coronavirus was a pandemic 'long before' it was declared today 03/17/20, Yet March 9th it was ""The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation, far beyond what the facts would warrant," Trump tweeted at the time." Too bad he never gave FOX and Hannity a heads up about his clairvoyance. Or the CDC and the American people.
