The BBC had a good report on this law. A US based reporter was explaining the intent and nature of the law to a UK based moderator. The questions of the UK moderator made the US look like a banana republic. President Bidens efforts to improve America's rankings will undoubtedly be held back. As he tries to exit the basement for developed countries.

I find him entertaining. Joe that is, just to be clear. Your attempts to rewrite history....less so, more along the line of tiresome.

How to encourage tax cheating by the very wealthy

Exploitation, but i don't know about terrible. IMO buying a Huawei product or service is advancing an exploitation. A gig worker for Uber, Doordash, etc. can opt out of the equation at a moments notice. Or be looking for a better job between paying customers. Someone held capture by a dominate party in the work relationship. Is by far worse. -
Its exciting times for bio-science. $100 DNA sequencing(soon), crisper, mRNA, etc. But I'm not holding my breath because DNA sequencing was supposed to have lots of solutions on the table already. That was a long time ago. It seems though as if the tools are finally coming together. The president of Pfizer said new covid variation vaccines are 100 days from DNA to vaccine. If we could only close the Chinese wet markets. These companies could get back to other research. Like perhaps a Crisper answer for GOP tribalism. We'd need to sequence the most fanatical GOP adherents. trump, Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, Brent.

Imagine if all of the bio science companies in the world just decided to cure and eliminate cancer. Or ageing! Two little pills just cure everything.

Factors like ageing, the environment, overall genetics are a mite more complex than one genome typed virus.

How to encourage tax cheating by the very wealthy

Bezos sees all! Just kidding. He is most famous for the collection and analysis of all relevant information. Currently Amazon employs 1.3 million about 900,000 less than Walmart. He uses traditional union busting and suppression tactics that other companies use.But will raise wages and conditions when forced to. Or when necessary. Amazon isn't successful and profitable w/o reason. Thats not to say that Bezos isn't human, re cheating on personal relationship and divorce. He understands the Washington lobby industry and his markets. He exploits individual states for best economic advantage. As do other companies. -

It requires laws that give shareholders and the board of directors greater authority and transparency. Monopolies, quasi-monopolies need greater oversight and scrutiny. -
How to encourage tax cheating by the very wealthy

Yes some are "I've got mine" and some are one for you and one for me. There are even those who not only want it all but would steal it all. They all get a vote. -
Thats all true but gowlerk keeps bringing up the concept that "life" and the rights associated with it trumps other freedoms.Likely all other freedoms. I applaud your personal actions in attempting to move the equation to the middle. The world looks on with amusement on how the GOP fiercely defends the tight to life of the unborn.i.e. abortion. Defends with equal voracity gun rights. Yet the dead from gun misuse have seen few quantifiable protections.

No insult intended but you have all suggested classical theories of economic development and social equality. None of which is ideal but all of which attempt to achieve a social ideal. Before any of those systems can be implemented. The society needs to have a common acceptance that the social system not only works. But that all people are working within that system. If there are "slackers" who want to live off the system it discourages the tax and income suppressed. If there are tax cheaters it encourages cheating. Sweden-Finland are closest to a common social-welfare system. Greece the least.in Greece, "the percentage of the self-employed is twice as high as the European average. According to studies, the self-employed hide around 57-58.6% of their income, while salaried workers are only able to hide about 0.5-1%." As long as there are those in America with a "I got mine" mentality. Tax policy that is broad with effective sanctions for evasion. Is the best income redistribution mechanism. In other news: "The president will travel to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to detail a “Build Back Better” proposal that aides say will include $3 trillion in new spending and up to $1 trillion more in tax credits and other tax incentives." Shortly thereafter there will be tax increases because pandemic spending and infrastructure. Have to be paid for. -
The full quote is “My numbers are through the roof. They’re tremendous. We’re handling this Chinese virus better than any president, ever. I’m not losing any supporters over this, believe me. In fact, I could shoot baby Jesus Christ right now in the middle of 5th Avenue, and not drop one percentage point in the polls. I might just go piss on the altar at St. Patrick’s Cathedral after this segment, and my people would bottle it up and sell it as holy water.” Donald trump is 74 and has never had his ego, lying or propensity to defraud held to account. There is currently another thread "Just how gullible are Trumpists anyway?" If trump gets charged with anything it will be labeled a political hatchet job. Who thinks his trumpists won't believe it? Does anyone believe FOX will start telling the truth about such charges?

Yet there is no push-back from republicans. Contrary to claims that republicans are becoming more moderate. The GOP is so far out on the bell curve their center is over the horizon.
-
Well there hasn't been any charges against trump filed yet. But there has been several reports that they are getting closer: ‘He Knows Close to Everything’: New York Prosecutors Zero in on Trump Organization’s CFO
-
Its a 1.2 to $4.8 trillion industry in the US already. The praying business is expensive.. Especially with all the recent mass shootings.
-
trump is showing signs that his ego is returning absent any charges from the NYNY prosecutors office. The power of his force in the GOP is strong. It could get bloody. I'm rooting for the old party stalwarts.
-
All a part of the GOP I've got mine, screw you, cultural wars mindset.
-
I hope so a strong and reasoned opposition is necessary to keep government honest. The GOP needs a 1/2 dozen John McCains and Adam Kinzingers. Whats wrong with modern type warriors with a softer side? I take it you haven't seen the new Old Spice commercials.

At a local Cabelas the shelves are full of guns and the floor covered with pallets of ammo. I recently bought some new federal .40 S&W for $17USD a box of 50. One effect that the restrictions of Canadian laws have held is that many handguns will sell for 1/2 of what they sell in the US for. Those being "collectable" type guns. When i was 16 i bought a S&W .357 magnum. I remember going out to the pasture and shooting for hours. Now an "approved range" with a permit to transport your restricted gun to and from that range is required. New sporting rifles sell for more than US retail. Ammo has always been available usually its more than US retail.

They just keep repeating it again and again. Then watch FOX for confirmation. In another thread BIGUN suggested that there were new young republicans arising to turn the party around. In fact demographics show the GOP is getting whiter and older. Jeff Flake and other moderates have quit the party. Driven out by the trump revolution. The only moderate in the party, the only one to stand up to trump. Is Adam Kinzinger, a moderate with a backbone and a straight shooter. He is under relentless attack. The new crop of GOP candidates for congress are as nutty as the current. Yes Wendy, mainstream trump voters. You can't tell if their stoned or just so far out there.

I haven't hunted for quite a while and I know there are a few B&C whitetails within 3-5 miles of where I farm. Not one, a few. I don't think you need to be a hunter to buy guns. IMO merely liking guns and wanting to shoot them is enough. As long as they are stored and not used compromise any one else's safety. My favorite range toys are the G3 and HK91. I understand the appeal of a day at the range and lots of ammo. A problem with the gun debate is the moderates in the middle applauding the extreme. Those who know better applauding the "knife", or "colt dragoon" equivalency argument. Its imperative that the most deadly of the range toys be kept away from people that should not own any guns. In mass shooting after mass shooting a AR is the weapon of choice. The mere absence of a felony is a green light to buy. The threshold for purchase should be higher. The AR used in mass shootings by young, usually white, men using lawfully purchased guns of this type. Results in no ideas, no proposals from the pro gun right. BIGUN excepted. No ideas but the parroting of there are enough laws, slippery slope, etc. If gun laws were a slippery slope why have purchases exploded. Yet had no effect on reducing the mass shootings.

In your effort to be concise you omitted the increased actions of republicans to destroy democracy through the vote. To defeat freedom by stealing the vote from anyone who isn't republican. You don't need a gun to overthrow democracy and government. Just steal the election, as all power will flow to the thief.
