  1. 8,916: number of reported TB cases in the United States in 2019 (a rate of 2.7 per 100,000 persons) Up to 13 million: estimated number of people in the United States living with latent TB infection "Worldwide each year there are approximately 400,000 cases of MDR-TB (multi drug resistant)tuberculosis, strains that are resistant to the first-line and most effective TB drugs, and often select second-line drugs. Due to the relative weakness of second- and third-line drugs, effective treatment of MDR-TB often requires an 18-24 month course of rigorously managed, directly observed therapy. XDR-TB strains are only susceptible to questionably effective third-line drugs. Because of this, XDR-TB requires a longer course of drugs and often times surgery if treatment is effective at all. Russia has a 14 percent prevalence of XDR-TB among TB positive patients, one of the highest rates in the world." Its not common but more than some people think. Then there is Polio: "Naseer was pacing outside the operating room in a Peshawar hospital. Inside, surgeons were trying to extract a bullet from his wife's leg and grenade shrapnel from his son and a young relative. They had been wounded when the Taliban attacked their house. Then Naseer's cell phone rang. "This is the Taliban. Give us $2,500 or we'll kill you and your family." "What do you mean?" Naseer yelled. "You already tried to kill us!" "You think bullets are free like the air?" Naseer recalls the Taliban commander saying. "That attack on your house cost us money. Pay us or we'll finish the job." Naseer and his wife had been working to midnight the day before as polio vaccinators. Evidently the Taliban like the GOP take anti-vax ideology seriously. "Online anti-vax communities, most of which are on Facebook, have taken on a very different tone. Instead of fretting over unwholesome additives in vaccines, members now rant about government overreach. They describe schools’ immunization rules as an assault on their freedom, and they swap theories about how Bill Gates is working with the government to control citizens with microchips, says Limaye. They’re “railing against the government and pharma companies controlling the population.” Sound like some around here.
  2. Well republicans are at it again. Pandering to their god and their base. They have passed a new law effectively banning abortion and The Supreme Court did not take action early Wednesday on a request to block a Texas law prohibiting most abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy, allowing the most restrictive abortion law in the nation to go into effect. Of course per GOP SOP protecting children has nothing to do with this equation. "More kids were hospitalized with Covid-19 this month than any other time this past year -- proving how seriously the Delta variant can hit any age group. Between August 20 and 26, an average of 330 children were admitted to hospitals every day with Covid-19, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention." Yet the GOP has put anti-vax, anti-masking freedom above their rights. trump's branding of the court is evident. So anyone who believes that all judges are not political can dissuade themselves of such notions.
  3. Hey with a wrench or two. Swap an engine from that C-130 over there. Wimpy, weak Blackhawk conversions pffft!
  4. Is the world just one big conspiracy to you? Or just science?
  5. Snif...sniff..thats beautiful. Like the smell of gunpowder in the morning.
  6. In Canada a white supremacist chose to adopt out his pet cats. So a judge ordered a search warrant.
  7. Professor! I take it you have been doing some light, late night reading of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (18 August ) issue. Which " found that vaccine efficacy against all SARS-CoV-2 infections dropped from 91.7% to 79.8% between May and July, as Delta took over in the region. But protection against hospitalization for COVID-19 stayed close to 95%. Data from the Israeli Ministry of Health suggests protection against severe disease is still nearly 92% for people 50 and younger and 85% for those older than 50."
  8. At least they are all well armed now. No old Lee–Enfields for this crop of jihadists. The Taliban grunts have tribes, Mullahs and mixed loyalties to everyone else. Oh and lots of weapons.
  9. So Afghanistan has a new Taliban government. Its facing two enemies right now in country. The Islamic State and Ahmad Massoud and his other anti-Taliban rebels. Will they allow the country to become a breeding ground for anti-west international terrorists? Or “Pakistan sees the return of the Taliban as the success of a longstanding policy designed to ensure a friendly government in Afghanistan.” Since" “There’s no doubt among scholars, officials and people on the ground in Afghanistan that Pakistani intelligence agencies strongly supported the Taliban right from its inception in the 1990s, that this support continued beyond 2001, that the group’s leadership was based on Pakistani soil – and that this is an important reason why the Taliban was able to sustain itself for so many years,” Shashank Joshi, defence editor of The Economist, told FRANCE 24." Pakistan may pay a heavy price for its clandestine support of radical Islamist's. Or will they expand to the south and help terrorist groups in Pakistan. Attacks "claimed by the Islamic State have raised concerns over its growing presence and influence in Pakistan. Many of the militants fighting under the Islamic State’s banner in Afghanistan are believed to be former TTP militants who fled across the border, a phenomenon that has raised fears of an Islamic State-inspired campaign of violence inside Pakistan... While "The military, which has historically been dominant over civilian governments, is believed to still be providing support to the Haqqani network, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and other militant proxy groups that often collaborate with the TTP." Yesterday as the last of US personnel left Afghanistan The TTP (Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan) the Pakistani Taliban. Launched an attack from Afghanistan into Pakistan that killed two Pakistani soldiers. The TTP claimed credit.
  10. I'm pretty sure he knows more about what was going on in Afghanistan than your sources. Does a bear shit in the woods! The idea that President Biden is micromanaging squad level orders at Kabul airport. In the face of CIA, U.S. Troops Conduct Missions Outside Kabul Airport to Extract Americans, Afghan Allies major published reports in major US media. "The Central Intelligence Agency and the U.S. military are conducting extraction operations to evacuate Americans using helicopters and ground troops as the window begins to close for rescuing all people at risk in Afghanistan. The CIA has launched clandestine operations to rescue Americans in and outside Kabul in recent days, according to U.S. and other officials. The missions are using American military helicopters but under the control of the CIA, a typical arrangement in such operations. A congressional source knowledgeable about the evacuation effort said U.S. troops had gone into Kabul on joint missions with other foreign allies, including Britain and France, to designated locations where they had picked up citizens from all those nations, U.S. green-card holders, and Afghans who hold special visas for helping the U.S. military." Not talking smack but the rhetoric doesn't pass the litmus test. Carry on Big Bear but don't forget the toilet paper.

    covid-19

I had not heard of Rand Pauls position on this before. Bent on one knee, leaning forward with his lips firmly on donald trump's ass. But its true and the GOP should be proud. Its conservative voters should feel vindicated that the rush to the bottom has made America first. "The hatred for Trump deranged these people so much, that they're unwilling to objectively study it," Paul told dozens of constituents at a meeting in a suburb just south of Cincinnati on Friday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. "So someone like me that's in the middle on it, I can't tell you because they will not study ivermectin," the senator added. "They will not study hydroxychloroquine without the taint of their hatred for Donald Trump."

    covid-19

Nothing I have ever experienced compares to the juxtaposition of trumpism and this pandemic. Two seemingly unrelated events. Yet combined with the information of the internet exposing what seems to be substantial stupidity within populations.
  13. That is a very troubling report, the data and representations are unprecedented. From Science Magazine "What is clear is that “breakthrough” cases are not the rare events the term implies. As of 15 August, 514 Israelis were hospitalized with severe or critical COVID-19, a 31% increase from just 4 days earlier. Of the 514, 59% were fully vaccinated. Of the vaccinated, 87% were 60 or older. “There are so many breakthrough infections that they dominate and most of the hospitalized patients are actually vaccinated,” says Uri Shalit, a bioinformatician at the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) who has consulted on COVID-19 for the government. “One of the big stories from Israel [is]: ‘Vaccines work, but not well enough.’” I would want to see such data confirmed elsewhere. In the meantime no bars and NFL games for me.

Conservatives. Soon schools will have to be built just to accommodate their special thinking. Demand Surges for Deworming Drug for Covid, Despite No Evidence It Works Prescriptions for ivermectin have jumped to more than 88,000 per week, some pharmacists are reporting shortages and people are overdosing on forms of the drug meant for horses. "Mississippi’s health department said earlier this month that 70 percent of recent calls to the state poison control center had come from people who ingested ivermectin from livestock supply stores.... In the conservative mind; Unapproved ivermectin good. Approved covid vaccines not good.
  15. Perhaps its time to start a thread about President Biden acting Presidential. Acting like a leader. Till then: "President Biden landed in Delaware on Sunday morning to join the families of the 13 members of the U.S. military who were killed in a bombing last week in Afghanistan....The president and first lady, Jill Biden, met with the families on Sunday morning. They then participated in 13 transfers — 11 for families who chose to allow media to observe the remains of their loved ones returning home, and two for families who chose to keep their transfers private." As for that previous loser still(last week) trying to steal the election: "Trump: Americans Who Died in War Are ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers’ The president has repeatedly disparaged the intelligence of service members, and asked that wounded veterans be kept out of military parades, multiple sources tell The Atlantic."
  16. Two wet dreamers with the same bedtime story.. You can tag team if you want.
  17. Trainable? I used to think so. Thats why I responded to so many of his posts. I'm less inclined to think so now. He is a perfect ideologue. Agree see above.
  18. FIFY If someone puts inflated values on their personal freedoms over the rights and safety of others. There are always other jobs where they don't have to interact with anyone else.
  19. Or change the subject. Like this. Here is a picture of trumps bum boy Pompeo and the Taliban co-founder Abdul Ghani Baradar. The smug look on Pomeo's face is because he just finished trump's orders and tied President Biden's hands and sold America out.
  20. Well at least the Kremlin is out of the equation.
  21. Well he had to do something because: "trump also bears responsibility for having made it harder to evacuate tens of thousands of Afghans and their families who risked their lives working with the U.S. According to an aide to former Vice President Mike Pence, Trump’s immigration team went out of its way to impede the application process of America’s Afghan allies seeking asylum and to reduce the number allowed to come in via Special Immigrant Visas, which allow Afghans who risked their lives to support U.S. forces to immigrate. That undoubtedly contributed to the backlog that has slowed the evacuation process this month." Above from "The Afghanistan airport explosion happened under Biden but traces back to Trump After ISIS-K claimed responsibility for the Kabul airport attack, Biden blamed Trump for the chaotic withdrawal. He was right."
  22. I can finally cheer for a law firm. Go Cops, go. Capitol Police Officers Sue Trump and Allies Over Election Lies and Jan. 6 The suit, which took a broad view of the riot’s origins, was the latest effort to hold former President Donald J. Trump accountable for the Capitol attack. "The suit, which implicated members of the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers militia and Trump associates like Roger J. Stone Jr., was arguably the most expansive civil effort to date seeking to hold Mr. Trump and his allies legally accountable for the storming of the Capitol. While three other similar lawsuits were filed in recent months, the suit on Thursday was the first to allege that Mr. Trump worked in concert with both far-right extremists and political organizers promoting his baseless lies that the presidential election was marred by fraud." There are getting to be so many claims filed against trump and his buddies. I wonder if the donald will ever be done with discovery. They should have included FOX, Murdoch and FOX on air personalities.
  23. No his favorite meal when he realizes he was wrong.

    covid-19

Just get the vaccine. Because if one Delta doesn't get you. The other Delta will.
