Also, a jet fighter is a horrible comparison for a wingsuit. A fighter jet has horrendous glide compared to a large wingspan aircraft, but overcomes this by having an enormously powerful engine. So remember, whenever someone says they "fly like a fighter jet", it means agile with crappy glide. Also, I will still completely disagree. The tricks I used in my V3/P2 are totally different than I used in my apache, and different than I use in my Aura.
-
I think suit design has taken care of a lot of this already. My aura pull is easier than my V3 from a BOC.
-
I think it depends on the suit as well. I remember when the V3 first came out you could get better glide by bending a bit at the elbows to change the shape of the wing giving you a bit more speed which then created life. I did something similar in phantoms, but find it is less of a factor in bigger suits. Some people refer to this body position as "tunneling the wing". As Jarno kind of said, every suit is different, and every input is different.

Just to reset the system. Get the skydives, fly wingsuits from airplanes, take your time, ect. If youre in chamonix in the summer, go to the top of brevent and there is almost always someone there in the morning jumping. It is one of the most technical wingsuit jumps in the world if you want to see some of the best wingsuit pilots in action. Its a nerve racking place, so honestly id say just sit up there and watch the show, offer some beers if you see the jumpers around town. Good luck, and remember its a super super small world, be humble, be polite, and youll achieve your dreams eventually. Im about 10 years since my first jump, and I couldnt have asked for anything more, and I didnt do a base jump until I had almost 500 skydives, and am really glad I did.

Mad respect man, you made a suit yourself that can fly to the landing at brento. Of course theres better performing suits out there, and the time and energy spent on making something yourself is way more than from a manufacterer, but the feeling of making something yourself and jumping it is worth it all! Working on my first container right now.

Nice, hopefully will by skydiving a bit more this year than in the last 4. Only did one flight on the classic so far and was surprised at how well it flew to be honest. Didnt get any data, but itll get pulled out for special occasions for sure.

I dont mean to be a naysayer, but has there ever been a really good big PF suit? Vampires, great. Phantom, probably the most flown suit in the world. Stealth...Stealth2...Venom...Viper... all very very underwhelming when compared to similar sized suits from other companies. When the viper intro video came out, it did have a feeling of, well people want gigantic suits, so I guess we have to make them. Id heard rumors of the viper for at least 2 years, and how it was completely different, and would change wingsuiting forever.

Haha, you said diarrhea

I dont really find it much different to fly than a phantom, and isnt a phantom considered a beginner suit?
-
I found that the X1 was very easy to fly, X2 not as intuitive, colugo, similar to x1 but better performance, and Aura, easier to fly than all of them. Youll get an aura way faster than any of the other suits if you buy new as well if that matters to you. My progression because people like to post that: Classic 5 jumps s1 20 jumps s3 80 jumps V2 20 jumps s-fly expert 5 jumps P2 30 jumps V3 50 jumps V4 2 jumps Apaches 40 jumps Colugo 10 jumps Aura 2 jumps

So how old is too old for a used rig?

If they car from 88 ran perfectly and had no extra maintanence issues and was functionally the same as the new one, then the 88 one obviously. Cars are kind of a rough comparison ;) -
I will say that acro on it was pretty easy. Did a few barrel rolls, front flips, no back vents so didnt back fly.
-
The one I got from them was just to see how a new pattern fit in the real world, and I was meant for someone bigger in the first place. Did a couple jumps on it but wouldnt say I even want to make any comment on how it flies yet. Build quality looks awesome and it is very similar in vent, attachment, and arms to my aura. Delivery date is the 5th for my production one.
-
First flight on the s.u.i.t was awesome, anyone know if theres anyway to date this thing. The label is completely unreadable.

The glide skin is tougher than you think. I have probably 120 jumps on my colugo, all but 10 in the base world where I am cramming it into a stash bag after, and I dont really spend any time folding it any special way besides not snapping grippers. I havent done any damage to the mylar, vent stiffeners, or glide skin yet.
-
Im planning on it. There arent back vents in the colugo of aura, though I think you can maybe special order them, and ive seen one prototype aura that had back vents. I plan on doing some good old fashion acro flying, complete with carving, barrel rolls, and hopefully front flips if I can remember how to do them!

I'll be flying on this weekend and will post a review

As Simon already mentioned, but without the sly sarcasm you seemingly love throwing at someone just asking a question... Sarcasm? Me? Never! Are you implying there is such a place? ;)

If only there was a place to view used suits, almost a classified section of sorts, on a website dedicated to skydiving, with a whole separate section concerning wingsuits with many different types, sizes, and the costs listed right there, many even with pictures.

I look forward to getting my new classic 1 in the sky. I wonder to myself if new age tracking suits will have similar performance to the classic. Id forgotten how hard the 1 zipper thing is though.

Anyone buy a Chris Kotscha (Freefalljump.com) wing suit in 2013?

yah i agree completely. I know the reference from the video for my own purposes, but cannot post it for a number of factors, mostly legal. Theres a few bridges that wouldnt be as do or die in a base rig, and I suppose theres quite a few cliffs that would be ok, thats why I was curious to see what other people thought. That flight is a super divey line, and i watched the guy who i followed who shot the video appear to gain altitude and I was below him by about 300 feet when he was under a fully inflated canopy, and then flew by him at about the same level before deploying. It was a crazy view from my perspective as well. If I can edit portions of the video to make it postable I will later because it looks really crazy in real time.

In relevance to this thread, I did probably 250-300 launches on a stilleto 120, it did fine, but it was always in windy conditions at either pacifica or point of the mountain. I flew speed wings as well, and quit after a crash I was lucky to limp away from in New Zealand last year. I have quite a few BASE jumps and wingsuit pretty close to stuff, and I will never pick up a speed wing ever again. If you really look at the fatality list for it relative to the time its been around and the number of people doing it, its one of the most dangerous things out there. I dont care what wing you fly, or the conditions you fly in, if you are close to the ground for long enough, eventually youre going to hit it, and probably pretty hard.
