The advice that I didn't want to listen to at first [but saved me in the end] was to look at the horizon. You can't tell how far away the ground is through your legs, just look out at the horizon like you normally do while walking and use that as your judge. Need to get an idea what being 12 feet off the ground is like? Climb a ladder and just look off of it. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

How did you get a still from the footage onto the computer if the footage isn't on the computer? Good job not dying. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

As long as it's a subterminal deployment, it should be ok. The issue of terminal deployments at high altitudes is the real issue, and that's why one should wait until a standard deployment altitude to pull if they're terminal up high. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

It's interesting that they chose to dump him due to an illegal jump when the very introduction to his show clearly shows him making at least one illegal jump [golden gate]. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

From the looks of that picture, the fine, upstanding folks trying to stop him put Jeb and anybody on the street below in more danger than if they'd just looked the other way on the tip. So I guess NY's a little toasty right now. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

If this were John instead of Jeb, this thread would be filled with different responses. That said, Jeb is a great guy and an amazing jumper. I truly wish him the best. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

If Shake is just over the horizon, it would've been announced at NAB - if only as a "Shake coming in 3 months!" announcement. I expect Shake to go UB when the towers, servers and Xsan [very 64-bit reliant] do. Perhaps with Shake 5, perhaps sooner. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

When was your first Off DZ Landing
MB38 replied to adventurechick's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Jump #46, tracking dive. Watching my glide ratio I saw that I would *likely* make it back if I flew it straight back in. I didn't want to risk crossing the runway at less than 500 feet and I didn't want to find myself in a situation where I didn't have the altitude to set up a safe landing pattern. There were many obstacles between me and the LZ that I didn't want to navigate at -
Just got back from NAB where the 17" was announced. It's a good machine, feels just like the PowerBook of the same size. it's fast as hell, render times in Shake were terrific. If you want a big screen it's a great purchase. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Video of Riding Spinning Linetwists into the Ground
MB38 replied to outlawphx's topic in Safety and Training
Here is the video, by the way. Nothing like riding to altitude on top of the plane. I really don't know what I'm talking about. -
Gorgeous photos, particularly with the sunset lighting. They'd make *cough* great desktop pictures *cough* at higher resolutions *cough* I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Suunto vector compared to actual skydiving altimeters
MB38 replied to SkyDivinRyan's topic in Gear and Rigging
If you're talking about a freefall altimeter, stick with a real one. I really don't know what I'm talking about. -
Fully understood. I forgot to comment on that. If somebody really wants to get technical about this perceived issue, they would have to take into account the glide and altitude loss of the camera flyer. While we don't know that exact figure, measuring altitude based on line length is pretty inaccurate as well. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

How well did you show up in the CRW camera flyer's video? I really don't know what I'm talking about.

this one always warms my soup. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm interested to see how it will fare against other tracking suits on the market. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Uh . . . how much do you know about atmospheric pressure and air density? Wingsuits use magic. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Here's an image I tossed together from exporting frames of a Skyhook deployment video. It appears sloppy from compression artifacts and the camera's exposure changing, but I assure you that I lined up each selected image with the previous. What that means is that the sky background plate is as it existed on the day it was shot. That said, consider the dramatic shift in perspective as the jumper drops to the camera's altitude and below. I chose the first frame as the moment before cutaway [the last frame before the jumper began to fall] and I chose the last frame as the first frame that the slider stopped sliding. If you want to see just how much the reserve is "flying" at this point, feel free to check out the video on RWS's site [in the Skyhook section]. If somebody wants to get all technical and measure the distance the jumper fell from cutaway to flying reserve based on the length of the lines as the perspective changes over the course of the video, knock yourself out. Either way, it'll give a decent idea of the "actual" [read: this particular instance's] cutaway to flying reserve altitude. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Check out the swooping/canopy control forum. I've read through several threads on the canopy over there. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Ahhh, tunnel rat! I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Do we know if it was a low/no pull impact or a cliff strike? I'm terribly sorry to hear about it I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Wait, your 15th jump @ Wales or your 15th jump... that happened to be @ Wales? I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Looks like the rig goes half way down your ass. Explains the low profile. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

... yep, I know a DZ that's already charging that. Anyone know what Elsinore and Perris are charging for 12,500??? Perris is $22 or $23 for credit. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Also remember that BM Pantz are more tracking-oriented than other freefly pants on the market. Personally, I have a two-piece freefly suit which I bought used. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
