The single-layer burners are considerably thinner than the old single and dual-layer burners. They couldn't fit dual-layer burners into it and keep it so thin. Yes, I realize that it's only a little thinner than the old models... the drive is considerably thinner. Trust me or take a look under the hood of one. One should also note that it is a new line, not a PowerBook replacement at this point. Currently offered models are the iBook, the MacBook Pro and the PowerBook. The MacBook falls into a peculiar middleground. This is one of the reasons FW800 wasn't included. With space available for only one FW port, they chose 400 as it is a much more popular port. Yes, 800 is backwards compatible, but the 800 chipset is hefty. Not excuses, just justifications. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Looks like Jeb's all over Discovery's "Stunt Junkies" as well. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Yes, that was exactly what I was alluding to. If he didn't have permission to post the video from whoever made the video, it shouldn't have gone up. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Did you have permission to upload that movie to the website? I really don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm just sorry for the family and friends. I'm glad that Scott's ok, hoax or not. T&F, DCBM. It's not 93 today and lets be happy about that. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Beware of removing the rig of a fallen jumper. It turns a BASE accident into a suicide. Which is worse for the family? I really don't know what I'm talking about.

So now the real question... did the student graduate to the next level? I really don't know what I'm talking about.

It's true, the "Photo Pro" rumor was really just Aperture. Aperture is to iPhoto as Final Cut Pro is to iMovie. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Jump 17, one of my coached jumps. I was trying to get my braked approach signed off for my A license. I set up my pattern based on the first jumper down, but the winds shifted when I was at about 150 feet, so it was slightly downwind. While trying to figure out what direction to turn, i found myself still in half brakes at 25 feet. I know, I'll just let up on my brakes and flare normally! Apparently PLFing works. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

A video would be a pretty clear way of naming a site... not the best idea. That said, you know how to find me Leroy I really don't know what I'm talking about.

I haven't found a file format I can't play yet... in Quicktime [except for Real Media... that's not a video codec, it's crap]. This includes WMV files [there is a WMV codec available]. So whatever you make, people will be able to view it. Personally, I would recommend h.264 in the .mov container, but if you're on a peecee, I'd say MPEG-4. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Adobe has made no official announcement on when to expect a UB version of Photoshop. When we made the switch from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X [pronounced 'ten'], Adobe was moving from Photoshop 6 to 7. It was months before 7 shipped, but there was never an update to make 6 run on X. So if they stick to that plan... we'd be waiting until CS3. Lets hope they don't pull that one again. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Is it just me or have freefly suits become more tapered and less baggy?
MB38 replied to Newbie's topic in Freeflying
Just another image example. It has a fairly slight taper and is tighter than many freefly suits I've seen. The upper body is a little loose on me as I'm skinnier than the last owner. I really don't know what I'm talking about. -
As stated earlier, Universal Binaries of the Pro apps should appear in March-April. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

I suppose their point is that it will function properly. Updating it will just make it perform better. So you're not losing anything by not updating... but you are gaining something if you do. I'm just playing devil's advocate here. Frankly, I wish it were free... but it isn't that big a deal to me. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

They're updating old applications to new technologies rather than making you wait until the next version update. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. That said, $19 or $29 would be more appropriate. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

I don't think so, the camouflage isn't effective at all. I mean, it's the only bit of clothing that really stands out. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Well, there are always ways to make things happen. Not legally, though. The new DRM incorporated into the Intel Macs is significantly more impressive than what was in the developer's kit. It'll be hard... but hackers hack anything. Additionally, Apple will not do anything to block XP from running on the Mac. The thing is, they don't have to. The Intel Macs use the Extensible Firmware Interface [EFI] instead of BIOS, which current versions of Windows use. That is such a key element of operating a computer that there is currently no way around it. The 64-bit versions of Windows support EFI, but the Intel Macs are 32-bit, so that's out. The only known version of Windows out there that supports EFI and 32-bit architecture is LongHorn, which isn't supposed to be out for another 14 years or so [zing...]. And with regards to Logic on the new machines, I have first hand experience with it. If it's what you do for a living, hold out. But remember that all of Apple's Pro apps will have a $49 crossgrade available to trade in your PPC install disks for Universal Binary disks in the very near future... March or April, I believe. Knowing how backed up the wait list for the MB Pro will be... you'll probably get them at the same time. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

As an Apple employee I can tell you that it is by no means an even swap. The MacBook Pro will be significantly faster than an older PowerBook... as long as you're using Intel-compiled apps. Those apps, of course, are currently limited to the apps that come with the computer. So if you use iLife '06 a lot then you're cool. But as soon as you try to fire up something like Photoshop for Final Cut Pro, it will be slower than [or at best the same speed as] a G4 PowerBook. The reason is that Rosetta [letting one use PowerPC compiled apps on an Intel Mac] can only do so much. You will be emulating applications for a while. That said, unless you dedicate your life to these apps... you probably won't notice a difference. Yes, it will be the same price wise. Frankly, it's worth the money [by leaps and bounds]. Remember that you will pay a 10% restocking fee on your returned computer [assuming it's open box], so you will lose $200 in this process. You also won't get a MacBook Pro until late February at best... most likely [well] after that. So from a processing perspective, the MB Pro will be 4-5x faster. From a normal use perspective, think 1.5-2x faster. For PowerPC compiled apps, the same or slightly slower. Do it, it will be worth it in the end. [and as this is going to the bonfire, remember folks: Windows will not run on an Intel Mac. Viruses will not appear on the Intel Mac. Mac OS X will not run on a PC of any kind. The change of processor is only one made under the hood... if Steve Jobs snuck into your house and replaced your PowerPC processors with Intel processors in your Mac, you simply would not notice. Nothing else is changing.] I really don't know what I'm talking about.
