U.S. withheld data on risks of distracted driving
StreetScooby replied to StreetScooby's topic in Speakers Corner
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32018629/ns/us_news-the_new_york_times/ Maybe it's just me, but it seems every time I see a "soccer mom" driving around Westchester, they are _always_ engaged in a cell phone conversation, and actively so. I'm also seeing "them" actively "typing" on their cell phones. Hell, I'm even seeing some read papers/books while they're driving. It's incredibly prevalent. Is anyone else seeing this? Interesting article in reuters today. The three urban myths of healthcare reform http://blogs.reuters.com/great-debate/2009/07/20/the-three-urban-myths-of-healthcare-reform/ Interesting article, and short. Worth the read. We are all engines of karma

Reservoirs of energy come from the 1st Law of Thermo. So far, we've identified kinetic energy, potential energy, chemical energy, and a host of others. But, I seriously doubt we've found all of them. We are all engines of karma

For those of you who haven't found the link to the Waxman bill, it's here: http://energycommerce.house.gov/Press_111/20090331/acesa_discussiondraft.pdf We are all engines of karma

So, do you favor the Waxman bill? If so, why? We are all engines of karma

But, will it be significant enough to justify the economic hit on our society? Especially considering that China and India will make our CO2 emissions mute. Nuclear. Make that a focus for the next several decades, while keep real innovation going in our country. We are all engines of karma

Here's an interesting article. I was surprised to find it in the NYTimes: Is the Sun Missing Its Spots? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/21/science/space/21sunspot.html?pagewanted=2&hp Here's some quotes from the article: Clearly, there are many driving forces besides CO2 in this complicated debate. Should we try and minimize CO2 emissions? Absolutely. Should Obama/Waxman impose a whole new regime of tax laws on our country in some belief that it'll have any practical difference? No. Nuclear power is a clear way to reduce CO2 emissions while meeting our society's current energy needs. China and India are going to make our CO2 reductions mute. Go nuclear, and over the next decade or two make sure our scientists are are the best to be found. We are all engines of karma

I think this may apply to this discussion. What do yall think? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/21/us/21bar.html?_r=1&hp We are all engines of karma

I personally think it's folly to think that our science has fully identified all reservoirs of energy. We are all engines of karma

Obama is not a US Natural Born Citizen
StreetScooby replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
His parent were military, Bill. If someone's parents are serving our country in the military, I don't think you can reasonably dispute their children are US citizens from birth. We are all engines of karma -
It'll be interesting to hear what it says. Please keep us posted. We are all engines of karma

The way the government will "trim costs" will be to not pay full price. The price they will pay won't even cover the doctor's costs, much less any profit for them. It's already happening in Medicaid. We are all engines of karma -

That's why we already have SCHIPP (sp?). We are all engines of karma -
Agreed, IMO. The fact there could be a negative feedback really makes it one of several primary factors, not a secondary factor. Thanks for the links you provided. I learned something. China and India are going to make this whole debate mute. What's Congress going to do with the money they take from us? Time to go nuclear. Another thing that I'm seeing re: "AGW" is the output from the Sun. That is by far the strongest driver in the system. It's really not a constant. We are all engines of karma

+1 I've been working my way through various literature, including the IPCC report (much thanks to billvon for sharing references with me). The IPCC report is a pretty significant piece of work. Any literature that bothers to document/define their language is one worth reading, and the IPCC report does that in spades. Radiant forcing is well defined, but does not account for any increases in water vapor in the atmosphere, which is by far the dominant "green house" gas. Increased water vapor will have an impact on increased cloud cover, which is another significant driver. I'm still reading some stuff, and trying to work my way through the math. If I get somewhere, I'll gladly post it here for review. We are all engines of karma

Which way do you run? What kind of scientist are you? You're not someone who can provide references to further any rational technical debate, that's for sure. The IPCC study is very explicit that the radiation forcing measurement assumes everything else remains the same in their assessment of CO2's impact on the trophosphere. That's complete rubbish. The IPCC says that water vapor is by far the dominant green house gas. They do not account for this in their calculations when "CO2 temperature increases" effects cause an increase the water vapor in the atmosphere. Agreed. ALL of thermo works, every time. To think that CO2 is going to increase radiant forcing without anything else changing is rubbish. There will be an increase in water vapor. You're arrogance is only matched by Professor PinHead from North Chicago State. Clearly, it's the best you can do. We are all engines of karma

So, you're not capable of sharing your knowledge in reasonably simple terms. While I rarely agree with billvon on social issues, he blows you away technically. You clearly are not as smart as you think you are. QED. Henceforth, I will completely discount any and everything you may add to a discussion. Who needs to listen to someone whose best efforts are little more than name calling? We are all engines of karma
