Awww c'mon, what kind of jerk would tell you that? Geeee.... where might that be? My hightest climb is 1900' (on the aforementioned elevator tower when the elevator *wasn't* working). I've done 1500' with rfarris & regularly climb 1100'. C'mon guys, it's good exercise! I think people are also neglecting the "time in the sport" factor. My mentor has just shy of 400 jumps, and another poster here has under 200 jumps, neither of which are very many by today's standards. I'm fortunate in that my folks live literally within eyeshot of one of the most famous towers in the world... if not THE most famous (think interstellar phenomenon that was once the subject of a really bad Disney movie). I can see the thing blinking at me out my guestroom window. I've almost got my folks convinced to come out and watch me do a jump from the tower. I've always believed that the best way to get understanding and (maybe begrudging) acceptance from people is to remove the shroud of mystery surrounding it. Interestingly enough, they did a segment on the Discovery Channel's Mythbusters about that legend. They took a crash test dummy and hooked it up to an accelerometer. Then they hauled it up a crane and dropped it into water from 100-ish feet. The dummy was getting ripped apart and the accelerometer was reading close to 90 Gs. Then they dropped a hammer in front of it to test the surface tension theory. It maybe lopped off 5 Gs. I'd REALLY like to get a copy. My friend was watching Headline News on Sunday and said they did a bit on Bridge Day. Apparently they showed yours truly doing a gainer from two angles. We had a Halloween party at work one year and my boss comes in dressed as he normally was. He goes around asking people if we've figured out what he was yet and we said "You're in a costume?" and he said "yeah".
