Thanks for the update. Looks like Martin will be out west for the Memorial Day boogie as well. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Every time I've been "approached", I saw them long before I heard them. The wind and sounds on our antennas pretty much drown everything else out. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Send a PM to riggersam, he may be able to direct you to a few objects... - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Speak for yourself. *I'm* not jumping with anyone who has a big logo on their parachute. j/k - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Moi aussi. I can't find any reference to it on their site. Can anyone fill me in a little on it? - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Nope, looks like you read it right. The combination of the three just seems like a recipe for trouble. Whenever you go stowed, the chances of having a PC hesitation increase. I have seen people go stowed from 240. I personally wouldn't do it, but it doesn't leave much of a safety margin if you do have a hesitation. Throw a delay in there and, well... - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Memorial Day Boogie (cross posted from the BASE Board)

You mean I can't try that triple-twisting double reverse to a double front pike that I was planning on trying? DANG! Seriously, thanks for the heads up. This is another opportunity for us to present ourselves in a good light to the general public. If we put a good foot forward, it might help open doors down the road. -
Heh didn't want to subject you to potential flameage bud. These sort of questions are sort of tricky. Obviously if you walk away, you made the right decision. But at the same time, you can't progress without pushing your limits... so long as it's within the sane capabilities of the gear. That's what I'm trying to get a handle on. I don't have enough experience with low jumps (damn 1700' elevator towers ) to make what I felt was an informed decision. The BR chart indicated that wasn't such a hot idea so I decided to err on the side of safety and then ask around. Hence the post. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

A few of us are having a friendly little debate. We have a very sweet 300' B in our area. I wanted Brit to jump it (congrats on the B ) so I lent her my 46" PC. I had my rig ready to go but with a 42" PC. I've done several cliffs out west with a 42" and never had any problems, but I was with someone else so I never was able to laser to the talus (will this year heh). Still, I just didn't feel right going from 300' with the 42... even though I have a pin rig. One friend said a 42 would not have been a problem. And I've heard of people doing a certain 240' span with a 42. Others have said they wouldn't have done it either. So I'm submitting it for open discussion. Whatcha think? Problem or no problem? - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Hey it was great having ya! And thanks for driving. Next time you're in town you can come play with us. We'll take you to our little gem that we take all of our guests to. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

To everyone else here... I know Doug he isn't trolling and he USUALLY exercises excellent judgment. So I have to ask... WHO on earth told you a wingsuit from 700 feet was a good idea? PM me. And if you say it was me, I was probably drunk at the time. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Hey Brian, thanks for chiming in. I was hoping someone like you would throw in their $0.02. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

I have a Sharpchuter reserve that I'd be willing to donate to science. I can take some baseline measurements (load tape lengths, lengths to cascades, cascades to connectors... not sure how to measure the canopy itself or get porosity measurements) and then dunk-dry-measure repeatedly. The results should be interesting I'd think. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

I should have measured my lines before I washed to get a baseline, but I'll measure my lines (including the load tapes) this weekend and report back here. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

I've gotten reactions of "you did what?" to "no big deal" and everything in between. Among the appalled, the Woolite didn't seem to be as much of an issue as totally immersing my canopy. Yes the rule is don't get your canopy wet. But anyone who has jumped in our swamps (I know you have Brit ) knows that keeping your gear dry is pretty much unavoidable. Our rigs are going to get wet doing what we do. And look at swoopers. I don't think they go a weekend without getting their rig soaked at least once. I'm not advocating getting your canopy wet with reckless abandon, or washing your canopy every week, but I can't imagine that giving it a good cleaning every once in a while (once a year maybe?) can be THAT terrible. But then again, you're the rigger and I'm not. Also, can anyone comment on the difference in reaction to water that the varying fabric types might have? Does ZP or F-111 react differently? - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Good to hear you're doing OK... all things considered. Stay safe and hope you get to come home soon! - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up on Asylum Designs' website. The URL us www.asylumbase.com. There isn't much there right now, but I figured folks might want to bookmark it and check back periodically. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

I don't think he's asking whether having valves will impact heading performance (i.e. vs not having valves). I think what he's asking is, given a valved canopy, would any asymmetry in how the valves are laying in each of the cells negatively impact heading performance? For example, if the valves in cells 2, 5 & 6 are laying perfectly flat, those in cells 1 and 4 are sort of half covering, and 3 & 7 are laying wide open, would that result in any appreciable difference than if they were all laying flat? - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Yep. I'm very up-front about it. I figure if they know in advance there won't be any surprises if I get injured/busted. Nobody gives me a hard time, though several think I'm slightly crazy. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
