  1. 1 (with righty, what can I say I was tired):12:2 Twelve fun jumps over the weekend. Beer owed: First jumps on a new demo canopy First time dropping my camcorder . It hit the carpet first and then bounced to the hard floor. No cracks and it turns on and still records. I think I dodged a bullet. 2. It's all inertia or something like that. He held it for the 720 but Bob didn't hold it for the backside 180 which was amazing!!! 3. I was watching that last night. If he would of completed the 540 he would have won hands down considering he hit the 720 across the big jump. I thought he was dead or injured for sure. It knocked his shoes clean off. I still can't believe they allowed him to walk off the ramp. "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. 4. Rdutch you have way more jumps and experience so my questions are out of pure curiosity. 1. What about two 4 way teams with mixed canopies on each team. Which team goes first? 2. Would wingloadings play into this more than canopy size? Say someone on a 150 loaded at 2:1 compared to someone on a 119 loaded at 1.4:1. Just curious. 5. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I can't seem to find anything to back this up. "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  6. I'll be in Carson for 4 days in early August (9-12) and heading out to Elsinore for a day or two as well as some tunnel time. Let me know if you want to meet up. 7. Is it common for students to jump with no RSL? I've never seen this but I'm young. Was it an SOS system? My 1st cutaway happened on jump 396. It was during a charity event where I was doing 53 H&Ps in a day. On the 16th jump of the day I had line twists on a Sabre 2. No big deal but then the canopy started spinning, diving, and the next thing I knew I was on my back picking up speed. I was exiting from 2200 feet so I knew I was short on time. I just went ahead and chopped it. Followed the free bag down which landed just across the street from the landing area. A member of the ground crew drove right to the canopy. I stood the landing up. 8. What route are you taking through the midwest? "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  9. It's just from lots of practice Troy. Yep I'll be in Kansas all weekend. I did hook up another demo last night so I'm excited to jump it. 10. Guy when are you going to be in Perris? I'm headed out that way and I'd love to meet you at the DZ for a jump or two. You bringing any shirts with you? "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  11. Well I have trouble getting my helmet on while keeping them in is a big reason. I also really like being able to hear under canopy. I guess more than anything personal preference. 12. 3 (2 with righty and one with lefty):6:0 Saturday was a good day. 5 FF 1 tandem Sunday was a rain day so stayed at home and cleaned the house and hung out with the dog. 13. I have ones similar to the ones in picture 1. I wear them on the ride to altitude and take them out prior to exit. For me it's actually easier to hear other people on the plane but the plane engine noise is gone. I just started wearing them about 100 jumps ago and I love em. 14. Strato- Would you mind sharing some complaints that you know about and how they were covered? If people that are in the know (you) don't help people who are in the dark (others and I) then we'll never get change. Thanks "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  15. But we elect those "enemys of USPA members". So we as upjumpers are the ones to blame. We can not sit by idle and let things continue if a problem truly exists. Jan I'm sure I can find this in the Governance Manual but you probably know it off the top of your head. Do the regional and national directors vote on a new ED or is it just the national directors? Also what does the vote have to be for approval (50% 2/3rds etc)? Are the directors votes made public on issues such as this? They are accountable to their constituents aren't they? "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  16. See Jan this is what I don't understand. How are things so darn unorganized. If someone sends in an application to HQ then wouldn't the current ED give it to someone on the BOD to share with others? So as I understand (please correct me if I'm wrong) The BOD is elected by voting members of the USPA. The BOD hires the ED, the ED oversees HQ (holy shit if we get anymore acronyms I'll be SOL with keeping up). At anytime the BOD can elect to remove the ED and replace said person with a new one. Do I have that about correct? Someone asked how much the ED made. Check out a previous post of mine here. It looks to be around $100K. 17. Ed I don't know if Jan is still monitoring this thread. I'm still waiting for a response to my question posted earlier. Jan are you out there? "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  18. Nice video. I noticed on the opening filmed at the end that the flyer doesn't collapse the leg wing, why is that? I'm a new flyer so I'm only inquiring not saying it was bad. Thanks "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  19. Chris Needles is the Executive Director. Glen Bangs is the President. 2 different postions. One is hired one is elected. judy In theory anyway...... . Jan if that's how it's done in theory please tell us how it's done in reality. New people like myself are interested (not in the job but how the hiring occurs). Thanks "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  20. I'm sorry but you have to tell us the story behind that one. "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  21. 0:9:1 Slow weekend but had a blast. Troy is that the first time you jumped a canopy smaller than a 150? See you shouldn't admit to owing beer. "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  22. Yep check them all out. Here's my take at the ones I've jumped at: Skydive Kansas is my home DZ. It's a fun place to jump. The packing area is nice and inside. You can get on a ton of loads. I think I did 22 jumps there two weeks ago. The plane is also nice and in good shape. The do have some policies regarding wingloading, hook-turns, and AADs. Check it out so you know if you can jump there. I'm more than happy to jump with you. Their TIs have 2000 jumps and 1400 jumps accordingly. Skydive K-State is the college club at Kansas State. They operate out in Wamego, KS. Their C182 is a wide body which is nice. They have one tandem instructor and he seems to be a really nice guy. This place has a good vibe and I like the people there. I should get out there more than I do. Air Capital Dropzone is located in Wichita. I've only been there a few times but had fun when I went. Martin the DZO is about 10 feet tall and if he wore a dark wig would be able to do a hell of a Borat impression. Missouri River Valley Skydiving is a huge place. They have more outs then I know what to do with. I've only jumped there once at a boogie but had a good time. I wish the weather would have created. The owner is a Master Rigger. Skydive Kansas City I've never been able to jump there. Not because I don't want to I just haven't made it up that way yet. Kansas City Skydiving Center I haven't jumped here since they got rid of the Beech and moved to Dearborn. The two times I went there I had a good time and that plane climbed super fast. If you go out there make sure you get a hold of Joe Thomas (jdthomas) on these boards. He's the S&TA there (correct me if I'm wrong Joe), and should be able to let you know when they'll be open because I don't know if they are on a regular schedule yet. Lincoln Sport Parachute Club is a fun place. They throw a hell of a boogie. I've been there two times on non-boogie trips to the DZ and had fun. This place had a really good vibe as well. Freefall Express is down south a ways. I've only been there for the Hillbilly Boogie my 1st year jumping and had a blast. They have some nice people down there, at least the time I went down there they did. Heck all the places are fun. If you go into any of them with a good attitude you'll have a good time, of course that is true in most things. I'm an optimist about things what can I say. Drop me a PM if you have any other questions.
  23. Yeah but your rich, you can afford it Lee you're funny that's for sure. Pleasure meeting you this past weekend. I'm going to have to schedule a trip to The Ranch now. We don't really care. We're spending two day at the DZ and two days goofing in town. One of the guys going isn't a jumper so if we take the car we'd like the hotel to be close to attractions and bars that way he can do stuff if he doesn't want to chill at the DZ. They're all booked :( "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  24. That place costs an arm and a leg, but they look nice. "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience up before your bag of luck runs out."
  25. Well let's not forget that Coiner was defeated by Jim in a coconut bra and grass skirt competition. Coiner couldn't get the crowd going like the other Jim could. Maybe Coiner just wasn't on his A game? Edited because I don't know what the last name of the Jim is who beat Coiner.
