  1. Hey you guys only get that once a decade!!!! Up here we get that 5 months ever year
  2. Agreed completely, that is why I have not made any statements regarding my tax money. Don't agree with you at all. The government had none of his taxes to direct to anything. Hence it is kind of silly for him to make a statement about how he wants his tax money spent. Btw, this whole thread is about symantics, since ,I still have need seen any news articles indicating that she is defintely suing the hospital. Right now that is only a possibility and not a fact. Like I said before, if Dave reported all his income from packing, good for him. I think it is fair to say he would be among the minority of packers. I'll say it again: none of this was intended as a personal attack, if it was taken as such, my apologies.
  3. Still Dave, Fact remains, you do not pay any taxes, so you really should not make statements about where your taxes are being spent. Kinda like a whuffo should not tell you how to skydive. If you took it as a personal attack, I'll apologize for that, it certainly was not meant that way.
  4. First of all, I started my post with correct me if I am wrong, hence it is not a closed assumption, but yet one open to change. Second, since you have admitted yourself that on a NET basis you do NOT pay any taxes, you really should not make any statements about how YOUR taxes are spent, since the american government doesn't have any of YOUR money to spend. Second I would ahve to commend you, IMHO there are not many people who make cash money in the skydiving industry who truly report ever cent of it. You say you do, good for you, fortunately for you, you get it all back. Third, I don't think there was any personal attack. You were making claims about your taxes being spent. Just wanted to point out they are not spending your taxes, since you do not pay any.
  5. Damn Meatmissle, now I have to go clean my screen.... That was funny.
  6. hey Dave correct me if I am wrong but, you are a student and work on a dz. How much taxes do you really pay. Maybe if you would report your taxes correctly, there would be money for people like Michele to get money for her medical expenses.
  7. Great point Bill. Problem is, majority of Americans do not agree with you, or some form of legislative change would be made in the compensation structure (no cure, no pay) of lawyers......
  8. Actually, countries like Holland and Canada (two I am familiar with) are not being hammered by the global economy. As a matter of fact, the Canadian economy is flying right now.
  9. I tried to find teh article online, but it was just a little side article and I guess is not carried in the online version. BTW, I have also nmot been able to find an article specifically stating that she is sueing! Michele, Your story is a true hartbreaker. Unfortunately it is a product of your own country, something most americans are very proud of. Many americans laugh at the social networks in place in many other countries and the costs associated with them. It sure would have helped you though. I wonder how many of the dz.com skydivers would be willing to see their taxes increased to set up a social network to help people like yourself or have a national healthcare system?
  10. Some people still actually pick up a paper and read it over breakfast. I'll see if the online version has the same info.
  11. Yeah, but who is going to clean your bathrooms in the south?
  12. I wonder what public reaction would have been if the following story would have been in the newspaper: INS deports poor mexican mother and child, sure to die without medical assistance. BTW, for those who read USA Today this morning. There was a small story on this case, clearly indicating that the mother has not decided whether or not to sue.......
  13. Actually Quade, from your own link: Comes: "It was traditionally demanded to adopt a kigo (season word: word reffering to a season) in the first verse of renga and haikai. Therefore, they demand to introduce a kigo in a hokku (and in a haiku) too." Which would prove that my argument does not blow, but that most of you are using haikus incorrectly.
  14. Take from the same link: "It must register or indicate a moment, sensation, impression or drama of a specific fact of nature. It's almost like a photo of some specific moment of nature. " nature, season, pretty close don't you think? In my mind even more restrictive.
  15. Both in Classic Haiku and Modern Haiku there has to be a reference to a season, which could be directly or indirectly. I guess we can add American/Canadian Haiku
  16. Taken from http://www.toyomasu.com/haiku/#whatishaiku "Modern Haiku. The history of the modern haiku dates from Masaoka Shiki's reform, begun in 1892, which established haiku as a new independent poetic form. Shiki's reform did not change two traditional elements of haiku: the division of 17 syllables into three groups of 5, 7, and 5 syllables and the inclusion of a seasonal theme. Kawahigashi Hekigoto carried Shiki's reform further with two proposals: Haiku would be truer to reality if there were no center of interest in it. The importance of the poet's first impression, just as it was, of subjects taken from daily life, and of local colour to create freshness."
  17. OK, I am a little confused: What tax dollars are you talking about??????? It is my understanding that a local business man set up a fund and initiated fundraising efforts. Furthermore, the doctor (who by the way publically has assumed responsibility and has stated that he was at fault) donated his time for the transplant. I am not sure where the tax dollars come into play? I do not see what the issue is with her citizenship status. I have a lot of respect for a woman who against all odds fought for her child, begged for her and tried to save her. No fault, no pay renumeration for lawyers is illegal in most parts of the world which prevents a lot of lawsuits from even being started. So, use your democratic powers to change the law! If this was anyone else the majority of you would agree that the person who screws up needs to pay for his/her mistake. So, are you telling me that because she was illegal this does not apply? Or even if tax dollars were spent, would it still not apply. Btw, if the US government would not spend as much on their military might, maybe they would be able to help Lauren and thousands others like her. Does this mean that Americans prefer to bomb other countries over saving their own children?
  18. mmm, one problem, by definition a Haiku poem needs a reference to a season.
  19. I am not quite sure what you mean with the untested, but there are many epople who buy rigs online without actually seeing them. I know I am one of them and I am certainly interested in skydiving... Regarding the cheques, yeah I don't think I would go with that.
  20. Not only that, Hitler only declared war on one country.......the US. Furthermore, if it wasn't for the german's and WWII, the US military capabilities could very well have been very different. The US army, navy and air force was nothing special in 1939. Some items were actually quite laughable: At the time of Pearl Harbor, the top US Navy command was called CINCUS (pronounced “sink us”)and the shoulder patch of the US Army’s 45th Infantry division was the Swastika.
  21. never mind putting it down, I lost the food I just ate
  22. I did read the logs, it is sad that someone who was so obviously asking for help was not helped. In my mind most of them were afraid to step in, afraid to get themselves in trouble or afraid to get him in trouble. That simple fear caused death and that is really really sad. My condolences to his family, Justin
  23. No trouble downloading, just had to instal the right codecs (thanks Eric) and watched a great video...... can't wait to go....
  24. Congratulations sunshine........
