there is a way to transfer music from your Ipod to a new computer even if you are using I-tunes. I know, cause I did exactly that. Google that exact question and you will find some free shareware you can use to do it.

isn't that Opus Dei? I am so confused

How do you know she supported Kerry in the last elections? -
cough syrup and MAOI are not the same. How about other medication with severe interactions/complications with other substances? Should it just be available...buyer beware? Or if there is a system of checks and balances, what substances do you regulate and which ones don't you? if you feel that there are regulations required, than your "system" is no different than the current one, just drawing the line somewhere else. The concept of, just make it all legal and the problem goes away is a nice utopia, unfortunately we live in the real world.

ahh okay, so in stead of paying the taxes to the federal program to run these programs, you pay the taxes to the state government to run the same programs. Secondly, this is different from what some of the other libertarions have been stating. They state it should all just be available. Recreational drugs (whatever that is) should just be available OTC.
-
That is so easy to type. But think about it. What are recreational substances? Do you limit that at all? How about prescription drugs, some of them can be fun as a recreational substance. Many have very serious consequences when mixed with other drugs. Pharmacists go to school for years to figure all that out. Do you think your average american will be able to figure all that out? How about companies? Will hey be free to do whatever they want, just as long as they don't directly hurt some one else? Giving away meth laces cigarettes for free doens't hurt anybody directly. It wouldn't be their fault that people are stupid enough to smoke them. It doesn't hurt the company when they start charging for those 6 months later. And it isn't their fault people were too stupid to realize they would get addicted. Sounds like a great way to purge the population though.....

that post doesn't tie back to this though. This post was about how the americans would be treated like liberators, how the war would be short etc etc. Not about relying on faulty intelligence.
-
She nor I were trying to convince you of that. Quite the contrary actually.

I can drink a beer because I enjoy the taste of a cold beer on a hot summer's day. I know quite a few people who enjoy doing the same thing. Just one beer, maybe two over the course of an afternoon. Certainly not in a quantity that any form of impairment is there. I haven't met anybody who told me they smoked crack only in small amounts so they wouldn't get stoned, just cause they liked the smell of it.

I was asking more the hardcore libertarians who seem to believe that prescription meds should just be available OTC.
-
you already qualified that by saying that maybe some shouldn't be. Where do you draw the line though? Should MOA inhibitors be available OTC? Even though taking one with a swiss cheese sandwhich could kill you?
-
Nope. And owners of coffee shops do get busted when they buy for resale. They have to get their "product" illegally, to be able to sell it illegally. Except that the second part is condoned. Basically the government has said, we are better of spending your tax dollars on something other than the private use of marijuana.
-
Uhmm, this was a discussion on libertarian views later on specifically towards drugs. You brought up Amsterdam as an indication of what legalization would do. There is just one problem. No drugs are legal in Holland and there is an ongoing drug problem. And the condoning of the sale for private use of marijuana really has had no impact on the problems created by heroin and meth addictions for example. The only thing thatis slightly helping with the criminal aspect of junkies is the government handing out free methadone to junkies. Would you be okay with your tax dollars being used to supply free drugs to junkies to curb criminal activity? Drugs are not legal in The Netherlands. That would include marijuana. If you think otherwise, I would suggest talking to a police officer on your next trip to Amsterdam.
-
okay well that settles it then. You visited there a couple of times. I guess you also stayed at a Holiday Inn while there?
-
I grew up in The Hague, roughly 45 minutes from Amsterdam. I lived there for over 24 years. I am well aware of the drug policies of The Netherlands. No drug is legal in The Netherlands. There is a huge market in illegal drugs in The Netherlands. There is a problem with illegal prostitution. There is an ongoing problem with underage prostitution. If you believe that there is no or limited criminal involvement in the legal prostitution in The netherlands, then you have obviously never gone beyond walking the red light district. I have been reading dutch newspapers for quite some time....where are you getting all your info on Amsterdam from?
-
And now we have gone full circle. Accept that for a large part of the population it would still be illegal and therefor hard to get. Driving up the price on the black market, resulting in the same problems you have now. Maybe to a lesser degree. The question would be, how much lesser.
-
sigh...yes both are addictive....in my mind to differing degrees. To you I guess they are the same....
-
I agree with that. I am comenting on the statement that legalization will remove the problem. And to find out how many libertarions are okay with legalization of all controled substances. How about prescription meds, should they be available over the counter to all?
-
Thanks for debating the issue....
-
yeah but since all can be addictive some people on here seem to think it is quite alright to group them all together and treat them the same. Personally I think drinking a beer and doing a hit of meth have quite different effects and have a different degree of possibility of addiction.
-
So would you have any trouble with allowing a 14 year old to legally use heroin?
-
on meth or alcohol?
-
all those answers are nice. But fact remains that an illegal element remains in place. With that illegal element comes a criminal side. So, what have you really solved? Personally I see heroin and alcohol quite a bit differently. Yes both can be addictive, I do tend to believe that recreational heroin use is slightly more difficult than recreational alcohol use due to the effects of the substance.
-
I agree for an adult, the question of when one becomes an adult is really secondary. it just indicates that there will always be an illegal form of prostitution, with a criminal element attached to it. I agree, but not quite what I meant. have you ever seen a 18 year old who has been on a three day meth bender? Let me tell you, it is quite a bit different from someone who has been drunk for 3 days....
-
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool my twice...well you really should know how that saying ends....
