you preach the same to BASE jumpers? Not too many around that haven't broken a law. Though they certainly expect to be rewarded when they jump. (though certainly not financially)

Some of the issues you raise do exist. The question becomes though what the severity is. We seem to be disagreeing about that mostly. Not quite sure how you go from there to "we'll be fine no matter what happens"? That seems to be mostly an emotion based statement. Could it be that some people don't think it is as bad as you think it is?

But a lot of them would have been taught English in school. For me the following languages were mandatory: English, French, Dutch and German. On top of that I elected to take Latin and Greek as many other in Holland have done. Funny enough that society in which most people speak at least 2 languages, society isn't falling apart and people aren't ranting about losing culture. I agree, which makes it difficult. I understand that website used Census information. I would love to see otehr data, but a quick google search didn't really bring anything up (emphasis on quick). I think you should have a national language...maybe even more than one.

Because to me that makes him one of the worst presidents in history. It also leads me to believe that if they let go of such an enormous opportunity, the president never had the best interest of America at heart. Like I said before, I am certainly no expert in American politics. But, when was the last time a president had this much opportunity to effect enormous change for the better of the country....and did absolutely nothing?

So? Doesn't his party have the majority? Why doesn't he push through bills that would balance the budget, start working on eliminating the enormous National Debt etc? He has had the perfect opportunity for quite some years now to truly make some major changes while his party completely dominated the political balance....yet he has done absolutely nothing, other than go on a spending spree. The opportunity was there...still is there.

It most certainly would....but it is 5 years and 3 months. January 2000 to March 2005 is slightly more than 3 months.... really? I wonder if that is the case? Or is it seems different cause the immigrants in those days came from predominantly English speaking backgrounds? In all of this, do you think the St. Patrick's Day parade should be cancelled too? Nope, but you were referring back to China, where an ancient culture is coinciding with a far more modern culture. Specially when you look at teh divide between cities and rural areas. very similar to the ancient culture of natives and the modern culture of "new" immigrants. Not at all, but it is really hard to force people to learn the language of the land when you don't have one. It just happens to be the language of the majority and that seems to be changing. I would suggest urging your elected officials to start working on a bill that establishes an official language, so english speaking people can hold on to their culture.

I understand that. Anvil's writing had an underlying tone that the democrats had the opportunity to veto any spedning bill, but thewy hadn't. That is why I was asking where exactly they would have done that. nice rant, hope it made you feel better.

Sort of, but not quite. Are you asserting that if the money wasn't spend on your war in Iraq, the National Debt would be in the same shape? Or do you think the current Administration should just cancel any and all social services to fund the war? on a long term basis...yes. Or increase receipts to keep funding the "mandatory" outlays. In the mean time, your president has gone way overboard on the discretionary spending, causing a giant increase in National Debt. I agree that in the long run mandatory spending has to be looked at, but to suggest that mandatory spending is the main reason for the giant increase in National Debt is a bit of a joke.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies: Between January 2000 and March 2005 7.9 million immigrants entered the US (legal and Illegal) 3.7 million were illegal immigrants, which would make it just under 50%. Big numbers but certainly not a million a week. 12.1 percent of the population are immigrants. The highest percentage in 8 decades. In 1910 the percentage was 14.7 percent. I wonder if in those days they though their culture was dying too? Same in the US, but the natives will tell you that you are killing their culture. You will just call it progress. Like I said, it's a bitch to be on the other side isn't it. So, what is the official language of the United States of America?

Again you prove my point. None of the issues in the countries you list have anything to do with immigration...legal or otherwise.... I am sorry, but that sentence doesn't make sense. Not quite sure what you are trying to say. On the otehr points we'll just ahve to agree to disagree cause the discussion certainly isn't going anywhere.

must be my imagination....but I only hear talk of illegal mexican immigrants....I know there are quite a few illegal western europeans in the US...and a fair amount of illegal canadians in the US...I don't hear much complaining about them....but then they are quite a bit harder to pick out of a crowd.

Interesting. Are you saying that giant increases in spending on medicare, medicaid, social security and government retirement programs are to blame for your incredible growth in national debt? I would love to see those numbers.
