  1. As Bill would say, I call bullshit. He was placed in handcuffs and placed in the police car. I think every reasonable person at that point would know they have been detained. Your freedom to move about is gone once detained. To prove that point, what do you think would have happened if the man had gotten out of the car and just walked away? If your answer has some element of the minor being stopped, his freedom to move about was taken away.
  2. Not even close to a similar situation and not enough information to form a sound opinion.
  3. I agree, but that is not pertinent to this thread. The police officer took away some of the freedoms of the your man. In doing so, the officer took on some responsibility for the well being of the young man. The officer subsequently failed in that duty and hence is partly responsible for the death of the young man.
  4. When you are handcuffed and in a police cruiser, you are generally not free anymore, but in the custody and control of a police officer, which also means they are responsible for you. With the power of arrest and detention also comes the responsibility to care for that person. I don't get why people are okay with organizations taking away freedom but not take the accompanying responsibility.
  5. Is anybody doing that right now, holding the officer wholly responsible? I think the officer is (just like the kid and the arents) partly responsible. Fact is the minor, once taking into custody, was the responsibility of the officer. Especially if the officer also deemed him to be intoxicated. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a lawsuit, since people in the US seem to be pretty "sue happy". In this case the agency should pay, since one of their members was clearly partly responsible.
  6. Or it could have been that he did more or threatened to do more than just talk bad about the president? Nah, that couldn't be it...all he did was talk bad.....yeah, that's right.
  7. Now ethnic is the same as indian. Did you by any chance go through school on a sports scholarship? You still haven't proven that the US is the most diverse country in the world. (By the way, native indian was one ethnic group, not listed by tribe) Why? Is it too difficult to back up your claim with actual proof? You do remember your actual claim don't you? I have repeated it many times for you.
  8. Could be, that's why I asked him to point out where I said what he claimed I did. I gave Canada as an example, did not claim it was more diverse, but used it as a measuring stick for GM to back his claim. Something he still hasn't done. Maybe the US is more diverse than Canada. Still doesn't prove it is the most diverse country in the world, like he claimed. Maybe you can help your buddy find something to back his claim up with, he seems to be having some trouble with it. (Oh, I will have a great weekend. Just booked: YYZ-LGA-JFK-BKK-HKT and then BKK-LAX-YYZ all in Executive class for the trip of a lifetime. Time to do some research on what I am going to do along the way).
  9. Not a bad idea, it would have saved thousands of innocent lives.
  10. Before you take the time to extract your foot from your mouth, I will give you a minute or two to find the post in which I contended that Canada is more diverse.
  11. The big assumption I was was talking about was this part:
  12. Could be, which would make that country more diverse than a country with 600 million inhabitants, 400 from one ethnic group and 200 from another ethnic group. eventhough the total number of minorities would be higher, there would be less diversity. Let me make it simpler for you. If you have on one house 300 lights 150 white and a 150 yellow. And on another house you have 200 lights in 15 different colours. Wouldn't you agree that the second house would look more colourful? One might even say more diverse?
  13. This really had nothing to dow ith support. Was just a question on the last census which ethnic group people identified themselves with. I'll just wait for GM to come up with his number, so he can back up his earlier claim.
  14. I did? Where did I say that? I doubt there are over 200 identified ethnic groups in China though, but I could be wrong.
  15. Your opinion doesn't make me uncomfortable know, you are entitled to one. GM might be uncomfortable though, cause your opinion would make him wrong.
  16. In same cases they are very different, in other's they are not. But, that was not the argument. GM stated that the US was the most diverse country in the world, without backing it up in any way. I was wondering what he based that statement on. In stead of backing it up, he said that if I wanted to challenge it, I had to find different numbers. I found the numbers for Canada and asked GM again to back up his claim. I doubt I'll hear back. Your little rants in between are fun, but are completely beside the point. To me every ethnic group in Canada is Canadian first. But then, I am not in the habit of reffering to groups as wetbacks, towelheads or anything liek that.
  17. If this is supposed to be based on the Litvinenko case, then you are making some big assumptions.
  18. Which would make China the most diverse country in the world, since there are more individuals in China.....
  19. In the latest census in Canada, over 200 different etnhic groups were counted. Up to you to find the number for the US.
  20. Which says absolutely nothing about diversity, just that many people are coming in.
  21. Just comparing effort, man power and money spent between Iraq and Afghanistan. It is clear that the US has put Afghanistan on the back burner ever since the Iraqi invasion began. And Money, and man power and effort etc. No, I think it isn't valid to constantly bring it up as an excuse, while it is clear that policy of the US government has gone in a completely different direction. They continue to put less effort, money and manpower into Afghanistan while their actions in Iraq have made the terrorist threat bigger. In stead of harping on 6 imams, maybe the US should put more effort into finding those responsible for 9/11, bring them to justice and at the same time conduct themselves in such a manner that they are not increasing the terrorsit threat.
  22. Why do people keep refering back to 9/11, yet have no problem with their country more or less giving up on bringing those responsible to justice? Why isn't their a mass outpouring of anger that the mission in Afghanistan is more or less abandoned by the US, or at least put well down the list of priorities? Are many Americans really that dumb that they think Iraq had so much more to do with 9/11 that it was a more important war to fight than Afghanistan? Personally, I don't think America as a nation has much right left to keep using 9/11. How can you keep bringing it up as a justification when the actions of the country to bring those responsible to justice have been on a continuous decline?
  23. really? Does he have multiple personalities?
  24. or, let's say they did claim to be police officers, but you recognize one or two of them from inside the strip joint and saw them drinking and maybe getting a lap dance or two.....
