  1. Shouldn't you first select an official language? Now you are just saying that people have to conform to the majority...how very un-american from you!!
  2. It is when it becomes widely acceptable to blame one race or group of people for all the woe's, worries and problems. For the other poster on the german economy. I understand forecast numbers are strong, mainly based on exports. Just remember that last year Germany's economy had its worst year since WWII. Things are not well in Europe, and muslims and immigrants are going to get the biggest blame for it. There will be significantly more violence in the future years and nationalist movements will get significantly stronger. All this to say that stating there are no parallels is wrong, IMHO.
  3. Hope that soup is home made!! Most of the canned and dried soup has chemicals in it...and well, then you might as well take some OTC cold medication....
  4. I love how that sentence changes colour every 4 to 8 years...or so.
  5. So everybody in Boston should be a little Irish?
  6. Is it? I am not so sure that is true. Weak economy.....check Desire to blame and demonize others......check And this isn't just germany either. This sentiment is large, and growing, in many parts of Western Europe.
  7. GO LEAFS 3-0 start and they are already planning the parade route in Toronto
  8. never received Spam through pin...lots through email, but never (yet) on a PIN.
  9. I some how doubt that will stand up as a defence in a sexual harassment lawsuit.
  10. The Canadian dollar is mostly tied to oil. Oil goes up, dollar goes up.
  11. Which points at one of the main issues. While every body points fingers (And up here in Canada there is blame to go all around, many teachers who are in it for nothing but the benefits), the system pumps out a large number of stupid kids. All you can try and do is, design and provide the best educational system possible, so that you can give kids the best chance they have. You'll never be able to reach all of them, but you can try and get as many as you possibly can.
  12. The analogy in the OP was pretty clear. When people respond, I can only assume they are responding to the analogy. But that's not the ony thread. There are many posts that maybe not state it directly, but the sentiment is pretty clear. From dealing with immigrants, to dealing with places like Iraq (just nuke the place) etc. For many here, it would seem, deadly violence is the answer to problems. All I was pointing out is the story could very easily be written differently: Illegal immigrant, most likely a drug runner, caught and shot.
  13. Just read the "if I broke into your house" thread.
  14. Would you suggest this boat goes into Mexico first...like the people in the story did? This isn't a case of Mexican violence entering the US. It is a case of Americans entering Mexico illegally. Many here believe Mexicans, illegally entering the US, should be shot on sight. What's good for the goose...and all that stuff.
  15. Ahh ok, that scenario doesn't make sense to me. Turns schools into factories. I am a fan of the basic year round non-semestered school system.
  16. I grew up under the year round school systemin Europe. None of the objections you have raised were an issue. I had 6 weeks off in the summer, more than enough to have a 1 month vacation. In Holland school vacations are times by geographic area. It would be unlikely your brother and mother would be in different geographic areas through elementary and secondary school. The benefits are there, it is abetter wya of schooling children.
  17. Which the teacher can then feed into the computer, so it, in stead of he/her, can check it for spelling and grammar. You know, in light of efficiency. I had to hand in my essays in long hand, I don't see why that would now no longer be possible. probably would improve some of the penmanship of today's students.
  18. That the motherhood statement guns prevent crime is fasle. That the motherhood statement guns deter crime is fasle as well. Not at all. Carry all the guns you want, you have the constitutional right. Just don't make emotion based, false statements about it.
  19. I was discussing the issue on a macro level. I guess for you, it is only about you. Fairly typical of the culture you have been raised in. Also a main reason many Americans are not liked around the world.
  20. SivaGanesha is correct and I was wrong on that point. it does establish two other things: 1) resident alien and non-resident alien are terms used for tax purposes; but more importantly: 2) an H4 visa is still not an example of your fourth group!! They cannot work in the US. To refresh your memory: Anybody reasonably intelligent (and not stupid like me) was supposed to know you were talking about people who could legally work in the US. H4 visa is not an example.
  21. ***They don't have a specific list - there are however several thousand hits when the term was used in a search engine*** I went through this hits, they don't provide a definition of non-resident alien. Now we know you don't go to the ministry of labor for that definition and have now effectively established you are a liar and will say anything to prevent from having to admit you were wrong.
  22. No, I am sure it did. Do you believe you scared them into being law abiding citizens and they did not go and commit crime somewhere else?
