  1. Not at all. I think that wealth being held like that by the likes of Buffet is wrong as well. One of the reasons he has decided to give so much of it away is that he sees a risk in a small community holding the majority of wealth as well. Which is completely beside the point. Creating a monopoly is never good for a society. A monopoly on wealth is no different.
  2. Really? You see no potential problems with a very small minority owning the far majority of wealth? Specially in a form of government where the highest offices are protected and only available to those with access to incredibly large amounts of cash? If you honestly can tell yourself you don't see a potential problem with that, than indeed there is no issue with the widening wealth gap.

+1 It amazes me that people can have such hatred for what appears to be just an all round nice and upstanding guy.
  4. It's taught in High School, at least when I went through it. Have you not finished school yet, or have they started referring to Wikipedia now?
  5. Dus je hebt ook nog wat issues met Duitsers? Wel, mss moet je je daar na 67 jaar eens overheen zetten. Doe ik zodra ik een goede mof tegenkom.
  6. Yes he quoted it right, he just doesn't understand the meaning of what he was quoting. They do teach the correct meaning in Dutch High Schools. I should know, I went through it.
  7. Not just the second line. The whole thig is about him. He is de "ik" He was born in Nassau-Dillenburg, actually his family "owned" that area, as well as an area in France and de Nederlanden. The reference to the king of Spain refers back to the 80-jarige oorlog and has nothing to do with your erroneous translation of the sentence, ben ik van Duitse bloed.
  8. Does he address how letting yourself being filmed doing something that stupid borders on retardation?
  9. Babelfish is nou niet echt de beste manier om een juiste vertaling the krijgen. Put that in Babelfish. Then, maybe start wondering why the language spoken in Holland is called Dutch. One might wonder what the etymology behind that is, one might even find a similarity to Duytschen. One might also want to look at when Het Wilhemus was penned and compare that to when germany came into existence. You would think so, Marinus is still wrong though. Christine, vielleicht konst du Google Translator brauchen fur: Geef me godverdomme mijn fiets terug, Mof.
  10. Time to go back to school. That is not what it means.
  11. True, thoug the two mentioned in teh article are decidedly not.
  12. Video is in the same light as kids videotaping themselves doing something illegal. If you are that stupid you really deserve to be punished.
  13. No, I am pretty sure you are missing the point. I'll give you a hint, it isn't in the science part of the story.
  14. Not setting the bar high, but isn't that what the concern is? Rush. I read what that site (think it might be a little biased?) lists as the top 20 cases. In those cases I don't see where Sharia law is being used. In cases where judges have erred, the appeal process seems to have worked. Funny enough when searching for "canon law in US courts" the top return is regarding Sharia Law. Lastly, courts have upheld Halachic documents in the form of will and pre and post nuptial documents. Doesn't seem to be an uproar over that.
  15. No. I described it as a religous legal system. Similar to canon law really. Do you have an example of a court case? Preferably one where Sharia law was used to trump US law.
  16. US courts have ruled based on Sharia Law? As in, it is illegal under state or federal law, but we rule not guilty because of Sharia Law? True and whith a signed treaty it is even considered US law. The ruling says that creating a law which singles out one religous legal system over another is illegal. That ruling is not the same as ruling that it is ok to use Sharia Law in stead of local, state or federal laws.
  17. Well, lets put this all into perspective. We'll take your link and the numbers I found in this link: http://www.tulsapolice.org/content/crime-numbers-ucr.aspx#totals 2010 UDC crime reported (for Toronto Violent Crime and Property Crime in an effort to make it comparable) Tulsa: 25,663 Toronto: 126,084 (The Toronto numbers have double counted incidents, where one incident can be reported under multiple headings, I don't know if the UDC data does that) Population: Tulsa: 391,906 Toronto: 2,503,281 Population Metropolitan Area: Tulsa: 937,478 Toronto: 5,500,000 (2006 data)* *also leaves out a further 700,000 people living in 2 cities directly attached to the GTA. So for the sake of this comparison let's peg the number at 6,000,000. So we have an incredible metropolitan area, roughly 6 times larger then your relatively rural setting. Our crime rates, according to conventional wisdom, should be significantly higher than in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Clearly they are not. You would be even more surpised when you filter out maybe 2 or 3 neighbourhoods in Toronto.
  18. It played a role. But, what happened to taking responsibility for your own actions? The banks made their own decisions. Why should they not be held responsible for the decision they made? You are displaying decisively liberal traits. Just because bad behaviour was encouraged, does not excuse the bad behaviour.
  19. Ahh ok. Toronto is one of the safest large cities in North America. What we coined as the "year of the gun" was a year with 52 gun homocides in a population of 2.5 million. Crime rates have been falling pretty consistently, even though guns are more or less banned. I'm happy I live in a place where I am not subjected to the constant fear that is projected by many on this forum. I am happy that my daily conversations with my wife, leading a busy life, are not about death, killing and self preservation, but about more enjoyable things. Like boobies, and which bottle of wine to open with dinner.
  20. . Did you just relate checking out boobies with your wife to a sex crime?
  21. The SO and I play the "holy shit did you see the tits on her" game. I am so happy that in my life, I don't have to play daily pretend games regarding my quick demise.
  22. Welcome to the Tea Party. These guys are going to save America don't you know...
  23. Well no, it is a State senator. Going by the article, they'll let any idiot have that job.
  24. Any, in general I completely agree with you. however, in this case there are two statements made on this thread, that if true alter that concept for me. 1) this was an abortion which he claims to be against in all cases. If that is part of his platform, it is only fair that his personal behaviour on the matter is examined. 2) if he truly had a picture of the dead baby hanging on the wall of his office, that makes the whole thing kind of open to questions and debate. I have no issues with politicians private lives remaining private. However, the politician should at least put some effort in trying to keep something private.
