  1. Oh the Humanity! I think the next generation is going to have the same reaction regarding current opposition to gay marriage.
  2. So you would have no problem with getting evicted from your town so it can be returned to the natives then? Don't worry, we'll build a nice little walled compound you can live in.
  3. Some risky behaviour is captured under increased insurance premiums. Your other examples put an increased burden on the health care system as a whole. In the end, all users pay for that. Hence, there is no doubt in my mind that prevention and education have to be big parts of any (macro level) health care system. Personally I like that in many places in the US caloric information is displayed on menus. It educates and helps to make somewhat better decisions when eating out (assuming they are somewhat correct).
  4. It was a 400meter track at least...and that is exactly what he did...just focused on lap times, every single lap...
  5. Somebody just broke the record for 100 miles on an indoor track in just under 12 hours. I am intruiged by the mental strength (idiocy?) required to run those distances, or times on an indoor track....One day I'll find out for myself.
  6. Don't forget the .2....those last .2 can be pretty painful. I myself prefer Half Iron and Iron distance triathlon, working up to ultra and eventually a 100 miler. Badwater holds more interest than Big Sur.
  7. Accused by whom? This entity must be relatively powerful since you claim they are covering their ass to protect themselevs from this entity. And you are right, I am a pure Fox News kinda guy.
  8. Why? What is their exposure? What would happen if they didn't "cover their ass"? What is their motivation to "cover their ass"? How did all these media outlets decide to do this together? Is there an overriding media advisory committee or something?
  9. Do explain how you figure that one.... Whom exactly are they covering their ass for?
  10. Unless of course it relates to abortion, euthanasia, birth control for those under 18, or any other "medical" subject the Republicans don't approve of. And you blindly believe a politician?
  11. On a less high horse level...and for those who care. High cholesterol can be greatly impacted by exercise and diet choices. Roughly 80% of your cholesterol is produced by your liver. In some cases, the liver over produces cholesterol. In those cases diet and exercise won't help and that waxy substance continues to build until a portion breaks off the artey wall, block your heart and you die...or get close to it. Hence, diet and exercise alone won't help in those cases. All this to illustrate that davjohn's original (rhetorical) example had another side..
  12. Dude, you are not running a court room. I am just repeating what he said. You don't like it, don't believe it. We now have two data points, him and you. Maybe the two of you can start a medical journal together. Hyponatremia is also not marathon related. Exercise associated hyponatremia can occur in all endurance events and can be avoided. Hyponatremia does not have to be associated with exercise though. So it is really a silly argument to bring forward as to why marathons are not healthy.
  13. Dude, it is on YouTube and the lame stream medis is ignoring it, because of black. How much more proof do you really need? You limeys are dense
  14. When I was ~17 a preacher tried to convince me that anyone who did not accept Jesus Christ would be damned for eternity. I asked him about the native in the jungles of Brazil who had no possible chance of ever hearing of or knowing about Jesus Christ. He said that this native would be damned for eternity. That is when I gave up on the fallacy of religion. JerryBaumchen No see, that is why God invented the Mormons. They baptise the dead so they can be accepted into heaven. See, god thought of everything.
  15. If you have a rogue government, your founding fathers put the 2nd amendment in place specifically for that purpose. Don't blame me if you don't have the balls to use it
  16. How did you get his private medical information while running a marathon? And how did you conclude that his cholesterol level was the primary factor in the incident? Deaths in marathons happen to a lot of "healthy" people. It's not a particularly healthy thing to do. Because I "met" him through a Canadian (actually mostly Ontario) running forum where he posted about his story. He is back to running now, dude was stone dead when I ran by him. Obviously here in Canada, where we went down the slippery slope of socialised health care a long time ago, we now tax people extra for doing dangerous things like running marathons. (Never mind that most marathon deaths are due to pre-existing conditions, like the girl who died during that same marathon)
  17. Every insurance company has "death panels", why would you think ACA wouldn't have it? Scondly, you are a very strong proponent of Capitalism. Why would you be upset about a decision making process centered around costs?
  18. Where you as a society place it, through your elected respresentatives and the judicial system as a check and balance. I am pretty sure we won't be establishing the line in Speaker's Corner giving answers to every single scenario. But hey, maybe you think different...
  19. I took his question as rhetorical. Outlining a situation in which he believed going against the Dr advice would yield a more cost saving scenario, yet get better results. I answered this rhetorical scenario with the counter point, indicating it just isn't that simple. Lastly, there isn't any talk about taxing people for not following Dr advice, so the whole scenario is erally quite silly. So, if you are desperate for an answer and are having a hard time putting your mind at rest: yes I absolutely think davjohns should get extremely hefty tax increases for not following his Dr advice!!!! He should be further taxed for serving his country. Lastly, the guy has an incredible body and should be forced to eat many cheeseburgers. Then we should all kill a blavk baby so they can't play the knockuot game in Chicago and be ignored by MSNBC. Is that enough answers for you?
  20. Considering high cholestoral can only be controled by diet and exercise to a small degree....you may want to listen to your Dr. I ran by a dead cop in the Toronto marathon. He was in the process of getting chest compressions and was revived later on. He too thought he could control his cholesterol with diet and exercise alone. Turned out he was wrong. (Don't you hate it when things aren't black and white.....)
  21. ...no doubt based on the infuriatingly outdated BMI calculation. I'm in the best shape/ lowest % body fat of my life, but because I have the muscle I have the calculator says I'm overweight and a health risk. Elvisio "I'm going to have to pay more if I want to stay in shape" Rodriguez BMI was never intended for single person, it is a measurement for entire populations.
  22. As I've said over and over, it's not illegal to BASE jump in US National Parks, all you have to do is get a permit. Based on what I've read about the history of approved ranges, licensing, and ATT in Canada over the last decade or so it sounds a bit messy. As discussed in the "hate crime" thread, the behavior people have come to expect from county sheriffs, district attorneys, prosecutors, etc. who act as the subjective arm of poorly-worded (or just poorly-conceived) laws varies greatly based on geography. So one person may see a law and say, "I don't see the issue, if you're not being an ass you're going to be left alone" and they may be completely right. Another may see the same law and say, "Hell no, the DAs here are going to go on a rampage with this in their tool belt" and they may also be completely right. Exactly why I don't think DAs, judges or sherrifs should be elected.
  23. So, first you say that you wouldn't be surprised if Obama gets athird term. Then when you get called on that, you say that even lawless Obama cannot get a third term. Then when you get called on that, you think he can get a third term again. And you call that not rolling over to bull shit? (oh and the President doesn't write or re-write law)
  24. Seriously? You strongly imply the premise. Then when you get a reaction on it, you call it a false premise? And you wonder why you can't get people to have a discussion with you?
  25. And how does this stop a criminal? It doesn't. But look at gun crime in Toronto (5th largest metropolitan area in North America) and large cities in the US. Compared to the US, we are doing something right. Is it due to limitations on hand guns? Who knows, but it doesn't appear to be hurting it.
