Then what is it? Life The issue of abortion is life in nature? Sorry that sentence doesn't make sense. Want to try again?
-
Then what is it?
-
Nope. It's a political issue. Because the conservatives and the religious types have decided it's their business what a woman does. It's still a medical procedure. But the party that wants "Less Government Intrusion" insists on intruding on the medical decision. No, there is political, ethical, and religious debate around this particular health care issue.

Yeah, ok, so you understand arbitrary, you just don't understand what was written above. Thanks for clarifying which misunderstanding you are coming from. (your analogy isn't analoguous) Lets say 5,000 people are the last 5,000 people on earth. You get the age of all 5,000 people and calculate the average. Let's say that average works out to be 38.3 years. Now you start screaming, that was an arbitrary determination of an average, because it doesn't mean that 38.3 years is the average age of all people whom ever lived.

There is no doubt that GB is in Europe. Trying to figure out if a turk is european is at least a bit more challenging.
-
No that still doesn't make it arbitrary. Maybe you just don't know what arbitrary means?
-
Ah, so it is only a health care issue if the decision making process conforms to your opinions. I like how you continue to claim right wingers don't want the government involved in personal decisions.

Who said anything about measuring temperatures across the age of the planet? Average temps? You really think that can be determined by just a 100 years of records ? How old is the planet? Average temp since they began recording it. Are you just trying to be obstinate, or is your reading as tough as your writing? If it is neither, you need ot explain your point better, cause nobody else is talking about extrapolating the temp against the life of the planet. Then this average temp as determined by the alarmists, is an arbitary number No the number is not arbitrary. You need a data set to provide an average. It would have been aritrary if they had chosen the beginning and end of the data set in an arbitrary fashion. Chosing the absolute beginning and end of the data set is not arbitrary.

Racist right wing Toronto mayor smokes crack on video
SkyDekker replied to skinnay's topic in Speakers Corner
But...I like Diet Coke. Is it ok? Hey, does this guy get two paychecks? He's acting as the Mayor and the Village Idiot. Seems he should get paid for pulling double duty. I don't know why he's described as right wing or racist, but I'm sure there's something out there that explains it. In Canadian politics his view points are most certainly seen as right wing, though municipal politicians are not allowed to have a party affiliation in Canada. This latest video is no great surprise really. He knows most of the media is gunning for him. Going to be an interesting election. -
May not be a heath care issue, but I think most sane people understand it is a health care issue. Are you thinking maybe it is more logistics, or maybe environmental? How do you possibly reason that performing abortions doesn't fall under health care?

Finally scientific proof that God hates Gays
SkyDekker replied to CygnusX-1's topic in Speakers Corner
Despite the fact that this is a very amusing article the premise is entirely wrong. God does not hate gays. People hate gays. God wants you to get sin our of your life and be in relationship with Him. Kind of gay for me to have relations with him. -
No, the Muslims are taking care of that. One of the reasons for Muslim bashing and the increasing level of Muslim bigotry is a response to the violence of Muslims worldwide. Bet your parents didn't call Hitler or his army those poor misguided Germans. They were Nazis and lived under the cloud of judgement and bigotry for another 30-40 years. Same for the Japanese who were called nips. What overcame a lot of German and Japanese bigotry was atonement. By both sides. The atonement process was started by the Germans and Japanese. That process has yet to begin. I thought maybe Americans had learned their lesson locking up innocent Japanese in the US for actions by Japan. Guess not. We did. That was EVERY Japanese -American. You didn't see every Muslim-American get placed in an internment camp; did you? As long as the subject is bigotry... How long have you been hating us Americans as a group and why? Ever since you stopped hitting your wife. And have you ever thought that maybe the Muslims don't like Americans because Americans never atone or atoned for anything? It is a silly way of looking at things.

Of course all these prints need to be entered into a national database, matched to a name, for it to actually do anything....

If "she" said she was Filipino, "she" was lying about something. Hopefully she was really a pilipina.

Wait 'til you get shingles - from the remnant Chicken Pox virus dormant in your body. Nobody in my family or extended family has ever gotten shingles. I could get meningitis too. Or pneumonia. There's vaccines for those as well, but I'm not in a risk category. Nobody in my family or extended family ever got polio. No need for me to get the polio vaccine. (unless of course nobody got polio cause they got vaccinated.....nah, that's just stupid thinking)

I don't think it really is that easy, or black and white. Autism is not an easy diagnosis, nor is there a blood test or other "scientific" test that establishes with 100% certainty that sombody suffers from autism. Autism is is really a whole spectrum of complex disorders of brain development. It is characterized by trouble in social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication and repetitive behaviour. There is not one type of autism, nor is there likely to be one cause of autism. We know it is more prevelant in boys than girls. We know that diagnosis is increasing. There is also not a medication for autism. So your argument regarding Big Pharma is not that relevant. There are medications for several symptoms of autism. However, whether or not you call it autism, or you call it something else, those medications could still be prescribed for the symptoms. If anything, it would be the opposite. Large fundraising companies are better served with a "disease" that affects a lot of people. Makes for better income. (No, I am not implying that to be the case here).

Right, the analogy that fits your opinion is correct, the one that doesn't fit your opinion is COMPLETELY different. We'll just have to agree to disagree. I believe that with certain professions there is a higher duty of care. Cops is one of them. When it is illegal to pretend to be one, I don't see anything wrong with punishing one more when they act like they are not one.

A long read, not for the feint of heart or the soft of mind.

Well, since you typed it on the internet, it must be true.
