This shows such an incredible lack of understanding and nuance.

Never mind that if these are minimum requirements, every firefighter should re-qualify every year to maintain their job.

Imagine that 30% of Americans actually support this man. This isn't about Trump, this is about a third of the American population.
-
Except that the guy wasn't doing anything illegal, was he? I mean open carry is allowed in that state. I think it is beyond stupid, but wasn't he well within his rights to walk around like that? Didn't the off-duty firefighter escalate things by drawing his weapon on him?

Firefighting is a perfect example in Canada, specially in a city like Toronto. The fire department is notoriously difficult to get hired into. The rumour is that you need to know somebody on the force to get hired. The fire houses are predominantly white male. In a city as diverse as Toronto it is impossible for that to be accidental.

Thankfully policy is generally not based on the self-assessment of one individual.

I think you are absolutely correct.

Sounds swiss.

Yeah, like if you dress like a slut, you should be fine with being treated as a slut. Wear a skirt that short and have a few drinks, you deserve to be raped. Why would society be like an NFL team? The comparison is so asinine, it makes me wonder if there is any sincerity in the statement. Or if it simply just an excuse to justify your own behaviours. The equivalent of, I am not a homophobe I have a gay friend. But he isn't too flamboyant.

The way I see it, that well regulated militia is currently detrimental to the security of the state. Hence, if the opening statement is wrong, the rest should be disregarded.

And I am fine with that. For the majority of gun use, a gun malfunction means the deer or piece of paper doesn't have a hole in it, no big deal. No secondary users, only one person can unlock the gun. Selling would require manufacturer input to change biometrics. I think that is exactly why it could work. Smart guns could have the ability to simply not be allowed to work within certain areas, or only authorized smart guns can work within those areas.
-
Yeah basically a form of NIMBYism really. Always the same problem. People say they support change. generally it means they only support change that doesn't impact them.
-
"Smart Guns" sold only. Non biometricly locked guns cannot be carried and only used for target practice on private property or licensed ranges. Phase out ownership of non-smart guns over time or introduce further restrictions on use of non-smart guns over time etc.

You certainly don't help the image of the US armed forces.

Any group of a certain size is going to have one or two totally deranged people.

Yup, if you want some actual wage growth in your country, tie it to inflation plus 25 basis points on an annualized basis.

Oppose Equal Pay for U.S. Women's Soccer Team!

Nah, I think most sports are watched either to support a team, or to see if the bet pays off. -
Oppose Equal Pay for U.S. Women's Soccer Team!
SkyDekker replied to winsor's topic in Speakers Corner
There should just be one team in this age of equality. The team should be made up of the best soccer players, male or female. All sports should go that route. -
Thank you, I feel better now

I like how this person thinks you would be a bad ambassador for Canada, but leaves me alone.....

But that is exactly where I am disagreeing with you. Ford Motor company is in the business of making profit for their shareholders. They do that by building cars as cheaply, and selling them as expensive as possible. If they can develop another line of business they will explore that, to make more profit. In other words, the work is only done to achieve the goal of making money. In the public sector, the work is the goal. The work can only really slightly change and that change shouldn't be driven by profitability motives. In other words, it is an entirely different way from looking at something than a businessman would look at it. I mean, it would be entirely cheaper to have military uniforms designed and manufactured in Vietnam or Bangladesh. It would be entirely cheaper to outsource homeland security call centres to India. But then, costs shouldn't be the main driver for these decisions. Actually costs should only be a consideration once the entire scope has been decided.
-
Controlling the cost to boost profit. Profit shouldn't be a motivator for running a government. Mind you Trump isn't known for his cost conscientiousness either. He tends to control costs by simply not paying. Secondly, don't think a guy known for gold toilets is really that focused on costs.
-
Except that a government and a business are simply not the same thing. A government shouldn't be run as a profit centre.

And let's remember that Ron, a current poster on dz.com, tried to do the exact same thing to another current poster on dz.com. Funny thing is, you cannot call somebody an idiot without getting banned. But, you can try and thoroughly fuck up their life and livelihood and nothing gets done.
