Salutations and Congratulations! P.S. I love your qoute! The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

[Any canopy can open hard, even ones with a reputation for soft openings. I agree too, but going with a main with great reviews for gentle openings sure as hell couldn't do any harm either! The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

Very much so...much appreciated! The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

I just went through the same issue...I did HOURS of searching reviews...then I backed up the reviews with HOURS of searching the forums. I found that when I'm ready to buy new gear, I'll demo a Triathlon and a Spectre. One of my main concerns is gentle, on-heading openings (I'm 6'4"/230lbs) and the Spectre sounds like a good choice for me. I've only got 20 jumps, but I was whacked by a Raven IV more than a couple times...no matter how hard I rolled the nose! The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

I appreciate that! What a wealth of links! Nicely done HooknSwoop! The thing I would like to know is if any one wants to give me an idea of how much $ their training set them back when they went through everything in HooknSwoop's article... The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

Hey Riggers! I did 20 jumps in 1995 and had to quit due to a nasty divorce, but I'm getting back into the sport (permanently this time). I'm taking a rig Thursday for a pre-buy lookover and a rsv re-pack if everything looks OK. While there, I'm going to query my rigger on how he got into rigging. My question is: How much does rigger training generally cost, say up to Senior Rigger? Some loft sites are very vague on exact training costs. I've always had an interest since my USAF days. A thread search didn't really answer any questions for me. The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

Is anyone having a problem getting into skydivingmovies.com's website or is it just me? It's been 3 days now...no access available! The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

Once I get current down here in Georgia, I'll have to come jump w/you guys at Air Capital...I've heard good things about your DZ...probably a lot like Hazen, AR (CAPC) where I learned through static line progression...they were small w/a C-182...but a great bunch of folks! You're right about finding a good, used ZP...but maybe I'll get lucky one of these days and stumble across a good deal...they gotta be out there! The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

I had forgotten about that benifit of ZP...ya think a Sabre loaded 1:1 would be docile enough for a guy with under 50 jumps? The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

I'd like any opinion on using a reserve canopy for a main...example - All my jumps were under a Raven IV for a main and a 24' round rsv (that I never had to use...thank God!). I am 6'4"/230lbs, and was happy with the Raven...even though I would like to have a brand-spankin'-new ZP, I noticed in the classifieds that you can get a 0-2 jump rsv for a considerably lower price than say, a 250 jump PD of the square footage. Is there a down-side to using a rsv for a main? Thanks in advance for any feedback! The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

Thanks for the advice! I feel the same way about the main size...I learned with a 282sqft Raven 4 and it was actually pretty quick on landings...out of 20 landings I never did have a "tiptoe" landing, although I tried various flare altitudes. Any specifics that make the Mirage stand out from other rigs for tall guys? Any advice is appreciated! The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

Thanks for your input, Skybytch! (I feel so dirty typing that!) I'll implement that formula in my desperate search for used gear! (pat, pat, on da doggie head!)

Thank you all for your input, every bit of info really helps! Skydived19006, I just moved to the Atlanta area from Wichita! What a change! Never visited Air Capital, but I visited Kingman a couple times, there are a few choices in dropzones down here, and I've visited all but Rome and Thomaston. It sounds like we're close to the same inseam size, but you've got me by a good 3 inches in height, 'cause I'm closer to 6'5 anyway...any chance you still got that PD 260 lyin' around? The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

I'm gonna buy a rig soon, and I would like some input from some of you tall jumpers out there! What size harness and container sizes do y'all recommend for a 6'4" 225lb beginner like myself? Also, all the different sizing combo's get a little confusing...D-6, J-7, V-2, C-19, etc. Anyone got a simple chart or website link that deciphers the various sizing charts for most of the major manufacturers so sifting through the classifieds isn't so daunting? The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.
