  3. Let me know how your jumps went and where you ended up going! My parents live south of Fayetteville a ways, but while visiting them I might try out a DZ up there someday!
  4. Oh, and search the Missouri DZ'S too, they might have turbines. Hope you brought your SCUBA gear...Tablerock and Beaver lakes are great scuba spots! Call a local dive shop for current visibilities, though...they vary throughout the summer. Eric The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.
  5. Try Skydive Skyranch...address below... Hwy 59 Cecil Smith Airport Siloam Springs, Arkansas or...try the DZ's in Tulsa...I've visited the DZ's in Skiatook and Cushing...good people at both...maybe 1 to 1 and 1/2 hour drive from Fayetteville using the turnpike. I learned at CAPC in Hazen, AR...excellent staff and jumpers there, but a 2-3 hour drive for you. Try the Dropzone Database and read the reviews, that's what led me to my kick-ass home DZ!! Good Luck! Eric The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.
  6. The Farm Pimp!!! On a side note....My wife, Melissa, has a DZ user-name!! It's "whodamiss"...don't ask...anyways, just wanted to share! A DZ username today = an AFF graduation tmrw! She already has 1 post...in the women's forum, of course! Eric The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

  15. Hey guys/gals! I'm new to the Farm, and will be doing some recurrency jumps w/Hans soon and have met very few of you, but will see you all soon at the boogie, so you can add me to the list + Melissa (wife!) and also add my wife and I to the Poker tournament! Fear not myself, but Melissa plays a mean game of Poker! If we can bring any food/beverages, PM me and let me know! Sounds like it's gonna be a wild one! Eric and Melissa The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.
  16. I had the same doubts you are having now...as EVERY skydiver has had! I recommend watching a reserve re-pack the next time you have an opportunity. It will give you a better insight as to the inner workings of the gear you jump. You will see, when you watch your rigger pack a reserve, how much care goes into the job, and how unlikely a baglock is on a reserve parachute due to the differences in stowing the lines and the canopy itself (freebag on a rsv vs. D-bag on a main, etc.). It gave me a lot of confidence in my gear, and I bet it'll help with that doubt your having! Eric The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.

  21. Oh, you might want to think about a wind tunnel...I'm taking my 11 year old daughter to one early next year, your parents might even want to try it too! Do a search on the internet for "vertical wind tunnel", there are some videos you can watch on some of the sites! Eric The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.
  22. I used to live in Wichita, and there are 3-4 DZ's in your area. If your parents are willing to sign a waiver, SOME DZ's will allow you to do a Tandem, but ultimately it is up to the discretion of the Tandem Master that will take you for your first jump. If your parents will not give you permission, then, even though it seems like a long time, you might have to wait until 18 comes around. I personally would not have a problem taking a 16 yr old, "IF" I were a Tandem Master, but ONLY with the parents present and with a full understanding of the associated risks. Even if you can't jump, visit some of the local DZ's...there is a lot to learn about the sport, and you could even learn to pack main canopies and earn a few bucks along the way! (if the Drop Zone Owner ,DZO, is OK with it) So go and hang out and watch, there are plenty of nice folks around the Wichita DZ's...one of them might post a response to you later! Good Luck! Eric The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.
  23. Hey, didn't that 72 year old AFF student die of a broken neck? From reading the incident report, he was limp in harness after opening, so it probably was not the landing...believe that falls under "worst" in my book. The Braver the Bird...The Fatter the Cat.
