  1. irony score 10/10. Lott's famous "More guns less crime" has been shown to be full of skewed data. Actually I was stuck on Glen Beck talking about skewed media
  2. Very true. We need more nuke, and vastly increased amounts of solar. The latter is a clean source and when it runs out, who cares?
  3. I don't really have a problem with SUV's. People should buy what they want. I just don't understand the massive appeal, other than to attribute it to fad. There are some people who actually need them for their off road and towing ability. But most people I see driving them are single drivers accelerating towards a red light while talking on a cell phone. I know why the car manufacturers like them. They're (were) hugely profitable because of the fad aspect and the fact that they are simply glorified basic trucks. My understanding is that the Ford Explorer was simply an SUV cabin thrown on the Ford Ranger chassis. My inlaws have a Toyota Highlander and, prior to my wife and I buying a minivan after our second child was born, we used to borrow it for long trips. But when you put two child seats in the back seat there's barely enough room for my 4' 11" mother in law to sit in between. We picked up a used Nissan Quest and now we get the same mileage, about 26 on the highway, get fantastic access through the sliding doors, have front, supplemental and full length side impact airbags, and can move back and forth from the front to the back if we need to deal with the kids and still have twice the storage space of the Highlander. Plus, when the kids are out of the vehicle I can let loose the standard 150 watt, eight speaker stereo system while picking up kegs for a boogie or plug my skydiving cam into the input jacks on the DVD system while at the DZ! YEA, YEA! (regaining composure) Sorry. Strayed there for a minute. I'm weak. So basically my point is to say that I don't understand the fad mentality. Never understood the TickleMeElmoCabbagePatchBeanieBabie thing either but I also don't recall our Federal government providing tax incentives for their purchase. As for the OP, I don't think that outlawing SUV's is right thing to do but I don't have any problem with the government increasing CAFE standards.
  4. Yo mama's so fat, she freebases ham. Yo mama's so fat, on Halloween she says "Trick or meatloaf!" Yo mama's so fat, she's 36-24-36... but that's her forearm, neck, and thigh! Yo mama's so fat, she has to keep pesos in one pocket and yen in the other.
  5. Sounds like you made a good decision. But actually driving your SUV on unimproved roads puts you in a very small minority. As for the snow issue, we visit friends in Vermont every year in the winter and I'm always surprised that there are so few SUVs there, but the minivan contingent is quite strong. Also, here in VA where, admittedly, practically no one knows how to drive when it snows, I'm always amazed at the number of SUV's that are stuck in the ditches or upside down in the median. I'd say that they represent more than 50% of the post storm carnage.
  6. Maybe we're on to something here. What if we slapped some rubber tires on some big ol locomotives and put those babies on the road!?!?!? Just think how safe their drivers would be! They'd be a real pain to parallel park but then you'd have an excuse to take up those two spaces in the grocery store parking lot
  7. I never did, and still don't know why people with kids prefer to drive a SUV over a minivan. The SUV's typically cost more, have less room, get worse mileage and are harder to get in and out of. I'm guessing that it's because the Jones' have one.
  8. Yo mama's so fat and old that when God said "Let there be Light", he told her to move her fat ass out of the way.
  9. Cool! I just did a quick calculation and if I start falling RIGHT NOW, I'll have as much freefall time as Carol by the middle of the afternoon on Saturday the 8th!
  10. Yo mama's so stupid, she spent twenty minutes lookin' at an orange juice box because it said `concentrate.
  11. IMO, Bush should nominate this lady to fill the vacancy. It would make him look smarter. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/34578/
  12. I'm confused. When he says "political reasons" is he referring to Gonzales lying to Congress, violating the Constitution, or simply the system of checks balances that keeps us from having a king? I hope Congress keeps up the pressure and finishes their job
  13. She keeps going and going and going! Join Carol Clay as she celebrates her birthday, more jumps and another year of great skydives and good times. 14. I didn't hear the evidence so I have no basis for agreeing or disagreeing. I think he was basically convicted of hanging out with the wrong crowd. It's a far cry from what he was originally, supposedly, incarcerated for. I think it's great that they were able to give him the trial that he was due but I can't say that I'm a fan of how he was processed. It smacks of "hey, we finally got something to stick".
  15. "If they'd only let me wear one of those little rubber things"!!! http://youtube.com/watch?v=9DkqU-uWojc
  16. There are Jews in the world. There are Buddhists. There are Hindus and Mormons, and then There are those that follow Mohammed, but I've never been one of them. I'm a Roman Catholic, And have been since before I was born, And the one thing they say about Catholics is: They'll take you as soon as you're warm. You don't have to be a six-footer. You don't have to have a great brain. You don't have to have any clothes on. You're A Catholic the moment Dad came, Because Every sperm is sacred. Every sperm is great. If a sperm is wasted, God gets quite irate. Let the heathen spill theirs On the dusty ground. God shall make them pay for Each sperm that can't be found. Every sperm is wanted. Every sperm is good. Every sperm is needed In your neighbourhood. Hindu, Taoist, Mormon, Spill theirs just anywhere, But God loves those who treat their Semen with more care. Every sperm is sacred. Every sperm is great. If a sperm is wasted,... ...God get quite irate. Every sperm is sacred. Every sperm is good. Every sperm is needed... ...In your neighbourhood! Every sperm is useful. Every sperm is fine. God needs everybody's. Mine! And mine! And mine! Let the Pagan spill theirs O'er mountain, hill, and plain. God shall strike them down for Each sperm that's spilt in vain. Every sperm is sacred. Every sperm is good. Every sperm is needed In your neighbourhood. Every sperm is sacred. Every sperm is great. If a sperm is wasted, God gets quite iraaaaaate!
  17. Many were investing in our booming housing market.
  18. Well, after 3 1/2 years of being held without charge he received his "due process".
  19. I can't say enough good things about the Pilot. It's what I purchased off of student status and I have had absolutely no regrets. It packs easily, opens easily and on heading, it's very responsive, stable and forgiving. Front riser pressure is not as heavy as the Sabre2. It's got a rather short recovery arc but at my experience level, I don't mind that. If I'm going to do something stupid then I have to be really committed to it! I'm loading it at about 1.2 and I can induce a nice little swoop if I want it. It's also got tons of flare! The Doc says no jumping for another couple of months (soccer's dangerous!) so if you're in the neighborhood, stop by West Point and I'll let you take it for a test drive.
  20. How about now? I'll stick by what I said earlier. Except for the "I actually made money yesterday" part.
  21. Oh, maybe. Maybe not. I don't know. Don't care much either.
  22. Only for the educational programming.Put down your drinks. http://www.watchersweb.com/submissions/ma68f1187221461/rvmtu1187221462.wmv
  23. I don't think we'll ever be without it. There will always be some folks pushing some sort of religion. But my hope is that organized religion will evolve into something more universally inclusive. If you read the Reader's Digest version of the Cliff's Notes version of the major religions, they are all basically preaching the same thing. Then again, I heard this morning that the global population is expected to increase to over 9 billion by 2050. So we either need to keep the religion status quo to help cull the herd or some major pandemic will do it for us.
