I do. Very wrong. Read to them and interact with them as much as you possibly can and start doing that right away. They pick up more than you think they do. Try to avoid TV for the first two years but when you absolutely have to have a few minutes to do something like take a shower, I suggest public television and IMAX films. That did wonders for our first. Our second is not as interested in books and doesn't gravitate towards TV if it is on. But he's diggin' the piano so......

Should Ahmadinejad be permitted to visit Ground Zero?
idrankwhat replied to Muenkel's topic in Speakers Corner
No. I think that the point is that the US is dishonest about the justifications for its foreign policy decisions. -
I second the motion.

Ok, maybe not "Skull and Bones" per se, but can you imagine the furor and rumor and conspiracy mill that will surround his death IF he gets offed by a "Jack Ruby"? You'd have to get Cheney to do it. He's the only one I know who can elicit an apology from a shooting victim.

Should Ahmadinejad be permitted to visit Ground Zero?
idrankwhat replied to Muenkel's topic in Speakers Corner
Kind of an odd source for you isn't it? Or was that page just a convenient addition to the rampage you've been on recently? Here's who they say they are. I just LOVE the first part Many people send us emails asking who we are, what are our qualifications to speak on Islam, what is our statement of faith, etc. Some say, that they love our site, and would like to recommend it to others, but cannot do so before they know who we are and what exactly we believe. If you are one who seeks answers to these questions, we would like to ask you: What would you need these answers for? Why is the (usually acknowledged) quality of our material not enough for you? http://www.answering-islam.de/Main/about.html -
Should Ahmadinejad be permitted to visit Ground Zero?

You know the 9/11 report mentions contacts between Iran and Al Queda. Just because they're Shia doesn't mean they haven't supported Sunni terrorists. "Contacts"! Well then, hell yea, let's start the bombing! What would you suggest we do with a country that actually trained the 9/11 terrorists, say to fly planes or something like that? -

I'd say you and others who are like minded have been right all these years. You mean that actually being right all these years doesn't count? -
Dozens died in Syrian-Iranian chemical weapons experiment

I think you mean "don't respond to us fucking with you and you will live". AKA "Biggie up or die, bitch" diplomacy. -
Should Ahmadinejad be permitted to visit Ground Zero?
idrankwhat replied to Muenkel's topic in Speakers Corner
Suppose he lays a wreath and declares it's for the terrorists who died in the planes? After he leaves, you pick up the wreath and throw it away. It's a free country. He can say what he wants. That said, we also don't need to give him a press conference to cover his visit. And even if he had his own press corp to film the event, let them broadcast it to anyone who wants to see it. Then the viewers will probably say "damn, I can't believe that they let him do that. So THAT's what it's like to live in a free country". Now, hypothetical scenarios aside, what does he have to do with terrorism or 9/11? Any more than Saddam? -
I don't really care much because I dislike reality shows and I'm not planning on watching this one either. But while talking about it this morning with a co-worker I found out something interesting. Supposedly it's being filmed in Mexico to get around the US's child labor laws and that included in the agreement that the parents signed it stated that they wouldn't sue, even if their kid was subjected to sexual abuse. It got me thinking that apparently child labor is acceptable if it's done for entertainment purposes.

Should Ahmadinejad be permitted to visit Ground Zero?
idrankwhat replied to Muenkel's topic in Speakers Corner
Yep. We're supposed to be a free country and should lead by example. -
Yes it will be. Because people don't like to be honest about the debate and have tendency to reduce it to a binary argument. Climate change has an anthropogenic component. The debate should be "to what degree" (no pun intended but I'll take it). Regarding health care and the Canada comparison, the problem with US health care is not that the treatment and facilities are inferior, because they're not, but that the system is managed improperly. IMO, Canada's system is a model to be aspired towards because their administrative costs are in the low, single digit percentile. The US on the other hand spends almost a third of the health care dollar on pork filled administrative expenses. Combine that with the inbreeding of pharmaceutical companies and our federal government and you have a model of inefficiency.

Everyone remember when Ross Perot warned us about this back in '92? Oh wait, I remember, he was a nutjob. It's possible for both parts to be true, you know. That's true. But I'd still love to seem him run against the list of bozos that we have now. The debates could use his input. At the very least I'd like to see his analysis of the current budget.

Like who? Specifically? George W. Bush You owe me a keyboard cleaning, and a diet coke

But, but, but... we have a deal with NK... or does it only pertain to nukes within their borders... Let's see, now... hmmmm... Iraq is a quagmire with no end in sight... S.A. is to build up it's arsenal with a 20 billion dollar arms deal with the U.S... Iran is threatening it's neighbors... Isreal is salivating for a chance to wipe it's neighbors off of the map... Pakistan is on the verge of chaos... Afghanistan itself is a mess and democracy but a puppet... the Coalition of the Willing have all gone home... Syria? hmmm... sounds like tick, tick, tick... BOOM! How soon until mass war breaks out across the M.E.? And some people wonder why people want to kill us. Wait, that's so anti-American. What I really meant to say is that the American people are safer and the terrorists hate freedom. P.S. Let's not forget that as far as the arms deal goes, SA gets $20B, Egypt gets $13B, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman split $20B and Israel gets $30B, of which over 70% must be spent buying US arms. That reminds me, I haven't seen "Lord of War" in a while.
-
I read about it on the BBC yesterday. There seems to be some possible concern with potential nuke storage and possibly North Korea. I don't know for sure. Regardless, Israel attacked Syria. If Syria responds what do you want to be that they'll bet blamed for starting a war?

Anyone? Bueller? Good questions. Those demanding that we stay till we "win" should at least do us the favor of telling us what "winning" means.

Consensus on Anthropogenic Global Warming?
idrankwhat replied to NCclimber's topic in Speakers Corner
No it isn't. That may be an indicator of why you're having trouble with some of these concepts. WHERE?!?!?!? Outer space? The "cup" is the Earth dude. Let's see, who is it that has "liberated" into the atmosphere millions of year's worth of land locked carbon? Well, ultimately we have but BO and our government are the primary enablers. Once again, this elietist attitude and arogance is discusting. now wonder I can not take you seriously Instead of simply wallowing in your "disgust" at the tough questions, how about addressing them? -
Absolutely. If he agreed with my political views I'd vote for him.
-
So if Rumsfeld comes out and says Greenspan doesn't know what he's talking about, you will accept his opinion equally? Only if he comes out and does that little "RumFu" thing with his hands. He's always so convincing when he gets that look.
-
I'm confused here. Are you trying to engage me in some sort of debate? 'Cause you're saying the same things using similar links. I agreed with him when he said it was about oil. And I also agreed with him when he said it was about oil
-
He wasn't saying that it was ALL about oil, and he wasn't being critical. But he is saying that ousting Saddam and securing the oil was "essential". Everyone knows that oil is one of the main reasons that we're over there. Some admit it, others, like those in the current administration say "Well, unfortunately, we can't talk about oil". http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/09/17/the_skinny/main3267685.shtml
