  1. what do you think it says It looks like a warning against holding on too hard. Overgripping can really wear you out as well as interfere with your exit timing edited to add: Don't take it personally. I noticed something similar in the Hypeye ad in Skydiving magazine where the camera flyer is holding on to the flap hinge. I guess I'm weird that way...and others.
  2. I can't quite make it out, but in the second shot, under your left hand, what does that sign say?
  3. This just in: The George "Chamberlain" Bush administration flip flops, rolls over and appeases. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080716/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_iran_nuclear_11 Sorry, I couldn't resist
  4. It's new technology that isn't being introduced by a deep pocketed major car company. The idea is to get it out there. The more you make, the cheaper it gets. And 220 miles on a charge is a serious break through. Besides, when you compare it to Ferrari, Porche, Lamborghini, Lotus, etc. it's surprisingly comparable.
  5. And who is the target of the cartoon? And to answer the question in the OP, the above is the reason some people have a problem with the cartoon. It's funny if you get it. If you don't, then it's propaganda. The main concern IMO is the fear that most people who see it will fall in to the latter category. In addition, if you continue to throw an image into the dialog, such as this visual manifestation of the Right's unfounded fears or say, perhaps repeatedly putting Iraq and al Qaeda together in the same sentence, then you stand a good chance of leaving a significant number of voters with a false impression.
  6. Anyone have an opinion as to why to go with the FTN as opposed to the FTP, besides $50?
  7. I just saw it this weekend. Do you have any idea how funny/sad it was to watch it while looking around the room at all the mega buckets of popcorn, 40 oz drinks and giant bags of candy being eaten by people who were messing with their cell phones?
  8. We were trying to come with with a way to do this for an upcoming big way in Sept. I was thinking along the lines you mentioned but with the video playing out to a video projector. Anyone tried this? You should have a good quality signal leaving the laptop but I'm wondering how much might be lost on the way to the screen.
  9. Um, doesn't he know those are both government agencies? Hmmmm....a government agency....paid for by the taxpayer.......selling shares to individual stock holders....bailed out by the taxpayer. Ok, who's lousy idea was that?
  10. How about signing a treaty promising not to develop them, and then proceed directly to doing so? I guess that's not so much hypocrisy as outright lying. I'm confused, are you referring to Iran's previous program or the Bushie bunker busters?
  11. I don't think that market forces were allowed to play out. The cars weren't marketed very well. I didn't even hear about them over here on the east coast until well after they were being shredded. Also, when you crush your product instead of selling it to a willing buyer that takes market forces out of the equation. EV still has a significant customer base. One of the RAV4 EV's that was spared destruction recently sold for $60K. I'd pay good money for ten year old technology, if I could.
  12. I picked up Vegas and was quite happy with it. It was easy to learn and wasn't very expensive. For the PC I'd probably stick with it. For the Mac, well I've been learning Final Cut Express and while I'm extremely impressed with the power of cheapest of the FC products, I must say that there are a few things that bug me, such as dealing with file compatibilities and incessant rendering. But that's another thread. Vegas. Cheap. Powerful. Intuitive. And did I mention "cheap"?
  13. Everyone who uses oil is responsible for using oil. Who is responsible for delaying a transition to alternative fuels and technologies? The energy and transportation industries and their pet legislators. I'm with you on that. We are all responsible but most of the time you just hear about America being the largest consuming country. Everybody eats too. But there's a difference between the diets of Lance Armstrong and the guy who eats so much he can't get out of his bed.

  15. Why do you feel the world isn't doing this? Because there's too much money to be made by doing nothing.
  16. You tried to equate them. But one action was illegal and one was not. Just pointing out what needed clarifying.
  17. "physical searches" are not the same as electronic surveillance and, as Gorelick's testimony made clear, were not restricted at that time by the Foreign Intelligence Authorization Act (FISA), which has since been amended to include them. The foreign intelligence activity that the Bush administration has argued it can conduct without warrants -- domestic wiretapping -- has for 27 years been governed by FISA, which specifically requires court orders. On the other hand, the foreign intelligence activity to which Gorelick was referring -- "physical searches" -- was not covered by FISA when she said that Clinton had the "inherent authority to conduct" them.
  18. Apparently they're giving him five days. Four too many if you ask me. http://judiciary.house.gov/Media/PDFs/Conyers-Sanchez080710.pdf Meaningless in the context of my point How so? It's a letter to Rove's lawyer saying that he's full of shit and Rove has five days to appear. Seems meaningful to me, especially when you consider that the Judiciary Committee is pursuing a contempt case through a civil court dealing with Josh Bolton and Harriet Miers.
  19. But that's not as profitable. There's a reason that 1% of our population is in jail. There's good money in it. And from the political standpoint, if you help someone get themselves out of a problem then it's called "socialism" and expending the resources is completely unacceptable. If you spend even more taxpayer money overburdening the law enforcement, legal and correction communities and fail to solve the underlying problem, then it's "justice". And interestingly enough, the above does actually apply to the subject of the thread. One approach involves honestly addressing the problem using respectful diplomacy and dealing with the underlying issue. The other uses an expensive, heavy handed approach that is likely to create more problems than it solves.
  20. I found pretty much the same stuff that you did. Nothing "mainstream".

  22. I think it deals more with his pattern of irreverence. Massages for the Chancellor. "Amigo" for the Italian PM. "Yo Harper" I'm sure it was intended to be a joke. But when you're the obstructionist poster child for global warming and making your last visit to the G8, his remarks smack of arrogance and insult. "Got mine, bitches! War out! Yo!"
  23. Do a similar comparison of everyday driving around town and check the results. You don't get much use out of the regenerative braking when you're flooring it round a race track. Not a very good test IMO. Why not compare the M3 and an F250 diesel with each towing an 8000 lb trailer? I'll bet the truck gets better mileage
  24. For the record, yes. They've gotten away with contempt for everyone for far too long. They can't wait until after the elections to do something because after Obama wins, Israel will attack Iran.
