  1. While we're channeling Reagan........ The core provisions of the Convention establish a regime for international cooperation in the criminal prosecution of torturers relying on so-called "universal jurisdiction."Each State Party is required either to prosecute torturers who are found in its territory or to extradite them to other countries for prosecution. Ronald Reagan Message to the Senate, MAY 20, 1988 It looks like the party left him in more ways than one.
  2. So did lots of other Republicans. Even one of the founders of the Heritage Foundation (can't look up his name at the moment) voted for Obama. Powell could, and I believe did, use Specter's argument that the Republican party left him.
  3. Ok. Call me a hypocrite. I'll admit to it. I found an instance for which I would support waterboarding. Then again, he did actually ask for it.
  4. You ought to clarify what you mean by "liberals" here. The least inclusive, most dogmatic, most highly prejudging people I've ever encountered almost universally self-identified as "liberal." It's been just the opposite experience for me.
  5. You are serious? You really think that the captors should care what their prisoner thinks of them? Really, are you serious? What do you think the US opinion should be/would be regarding the treatment from your captors?
  6. I have. And I have also already thanked you for clearly stating your support for the double standard. There's not much more to be said other than to possibly return to the Cheney topic. I think he's going to further damage the party in his effort to save his ass. I know that HE honestly thinks that HE did the right thing. And the HE is of the mind that the Executive branch has powers that it was never granted. IMO, if he doesn't shut his trap then he's going to blow this up even further, to the point that the Republican party will further implode and/or to such a degree that Obama couldn't ignore it even if he wanted to.
  7. So, you're honestly going to go with the "Bush administration was given bad advice/intel" defense, again? I don't know if the or emoticon is most appropriate. And Obama had nothing to do with the determination of waterboarding as torture. We did that long before he was around. The only difference is who was doing it and what it was called and Cheney was intimately involved in both aspects.
  8. Not that simple but, i feel the application applied in our case, no That's what I thought. And it clarifies your support for Cheney's argument. But honestly, thank you for giving me a direct answer.
  9. If you've still got the mindwarp I'd say "go for it"! But I'm biased. The Mantle is light weight, has great visibility and freedom of movement. In a short answer to your short question I would say that it's not too bulky or uncomfortable to do what you want to do with it, but it is indeed bulkier and less comfortable than your mindwarp. But considering the subjective nature of the question, it would probably be a good idea to jump one before you buy it if at all possible. If your travels happen to bring you to Virginia, I'd be happy to let you jump mine. Hope this helps a little, it's the best I can do.
  10. I'll see your viral video and raise you one. http://www.hoax-slayer.com/plane-ditching-surf.shtml
  11. A nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat eh?!!? Say no more! It's da BOMB! That's what I'M talkin' about! As if. Nuff said.
  12. I'm still likin' it a lot. "Comfy" is subjective however. For a camera helmet I'd say it's comfy, and certainly lighter than the FTP/FTN that I've compared it to. But it's still a solid chin with a dogbone closure, which makes it a very firm fit. That aside, if you used it for fun jumps then you'd probably want to have a removable sight. You'd also be subjecting your very substantial investment in helmet, mounts, sights, and switches to unnecessary wear/tear and risk. Take my limited experience opinion for what it's worth but you can buy a freefly/wingsuit friendly helmet for the price of the Hypeye that you'll probably be installing. That would be my choice.
  13. Looks like they may be trying to do that: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090503/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_gop_rebranding (Without Sarah Palin, so it seems.) That's nice to see, and I wish them luck. Hopefully they'll continue to marginalize the extremist camps. But I have to say that I hope that Jeb is doing nothing more than helping to retool his party. Even if he is "the smart one" I'm not ready for another taste of the monarchy.
  14. I know why they threatened him. But look what it got them, a slightly smaller minority and startlingly close to becoming politically impotent. And Specter certainly wasn't thinking of himself or his re-election bid when he cast that vote. I guess he decided that the team he was playing for was a larger one. I could be way off, but I don't think so. As an aside, even as a Dem I don't expect him to vote with them all of the time. That's the only consolation I have with regard to his switch. I like to think that when Franken seats that we only have a "filibuster resistant" majority.
  15. I can't see it that narrowly. Factors to consider include: He conducts himself in a bipartisan manner. His electorate shifted a bit left. His party has tried to marginalize him and has threatened to cut him off from the RNC teet and not support him in the upcoming election. Humpty Dumpty was pushed.
  16. They also use your credit rating in some instances when considering the rate for your insurance and, in some cases, even employment.
  17. How about: "Better living through chemistry" "Pork, the other white meat"
  18. How about "naughty headlines" I just saw this one on yahoo: "Girl beats off muggers with marching band baton"
  19. +1 I really, really hope she does. It would be better than Dan Quayle running. I recall telling my friends in 2000, "man, I can't believe they nominated that idiot. What were they thinking? He'll never win the election". Boy, did I misunderestimate the 'Merican public on that one.
  20. Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried the Canon sensor dust mapping software that comes with the camera (came with my XTi) ? Is it effective at all or just a gimmick? I haven't had the need to try it out yet.
