I'd pay money to see him at a spelling bee. Looking at the related content I think there may be a place for him to market his communications degree. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekeMSzijVqI&feature=related

To get back to the thread. It seems to have been established that Republicans hold the record for earmarks, both in number and total amount. They also hold the record for threatened filibustering and reconciliation votes. Turtle seemed to question my additional assertions about immigration (I think he did, he didn't answer) so.... .."The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency says it's on a pace to expel some 400,000 people this year eight percent more than the last year of the Bush administration.......Mr. Obama is also targeting employers who hire illegal immigrants. Over the last two years, there's been a nearly six-fold increase in employer fines." So I'm still wondering, why are we trying to rehire the less effective legislators again? All the things listed above are what the folks on the right say that they want to see in our government. Admittedly, it's not to the scale we'd like to see but it's certainly been a step in the correct direction over the last couple of years. And if the right didn't spend so much energy trying to make sure Obama fails and joined in the solutions (instead of sitting on their asses bitching because the success train left and didn't give them a front row seat) then the country might be in better shape right now. It seems that they only want success on their watch, which makes them petty politicians without one statesman in the bunch. But to clarify, the Demoblicans aren't much better. But not much better is still better.

"You keep using that whord. I do not think it means what you think it means." Whord, or Lucky, or Go? You don't have six fingers on your right hand do you?

Your time line is off a little. I don't think so. To which comment are you referring?

It would be too much to ask for a citation I'm sure, it would take honesty to post that. I'm pretty sure that's accurate. The Dems are in charge so they can push their earmarks more effectively. That's why the R's want power back. They want to get back to subsidizing the wealthy at our expense. You see, spending money to build a bridge or a fire department is "pork" in their eyes, even though it actually gives us something here in the US that is tangible and of benefit to society. On the other hand, throwing cash out of the back of a truck in a war zone (a war of choice mind you) or failing to hold polluters accountable by "shaking them down" for money to cover their damages, is "necessary top-down-job-creating-stimulus investment in our future".

Don't worry. The Republicans still hold the record for threatened filibusters. The Dems will never even come close. Just like Earmarks DOH! "Despite pledges from President Obama and congressional leaders to curtail earmark spending, the practice has continued at previous levels. " From the 2010 Pig Book: Dems: 5070 record(s) for a total of $5,048,602,943 Reps: 2207 record(s) for a total of $2,639,932,600 You were saying? Look at the graph and read what I said. Earmarks are down since the Dems took over the purse strings from the borrow and spend Cons. A lot better? No, but still better. Earmarks are down, deportations of illegals are up. Crack down on employers who hire illegals is up. All that under Obama and you guys STILL want to hire back the same people who sank the ship? Fool me once....shame on.......fool......me...We WILL be FOOLED AGAIN! [windmill guitar emoticon]

But will they gain enough to grab 60 votes in the Senate, the new bar set by the Republicans in order to get anything accomplished? Or will we return to the days when 50% (or less) represents the "will of the people"? I'd hate to think the latter was the case. That would appear hypocritical to the current 60% "minority"

Maybe the rest of the article has less nonsense than the first sentence, but I didn't get any further.

Glen Beck comes to mind. +1

Because it's more fiscally responsible than the right's habit of growing government and cutting taxes. Taxes are at their lowest point in close to 40 years. And again, the sunset clause was put in the Bush tax cuts for a reason. And I fully understand the economic theory. So did Greenspan, who was "shocked" when he found out that business leaders were willing to ignore their business' health, and the well being of the shareholders in favor of risky, lucrative personal gain. The unchecked, free market capitalism model only works if you disallow excessive greed. Greed is fine. When it becomes excessive you can bring down a nation, a scenario that's no longer simply theoretical.
-
He's certainly not alone in that regard. What we get from many on the right is "TAX CUTS" as the answer to everything. It's a knee jerk talking point that as Jon Stewart points out is "like my grandma and chicken soup". Few care to point out however, that even in a time when we were in fiscal peril and while fighting two wars, that we had the lowest federal tax rate in decades.

Wow, I was unaware that the casino economy was the ONLY instance of capitalism in existence - thanks for pointing that out for us. I didn't say that. I did ask you a question though.
-
Agreed. And with regard to the former, that's the VERY reason that the Bush tax cuts were given a sunset.
-
How did government spending cause the over leveraged casino economy to fail? Government overspending and growth are a problem with regards to no longer having the resources to bail out the gamblers and rebuild the new economy, but it didn't cause the problem.

We're beyond theory. We're into history now. What you're witnessing, and what we're suffering from, is the result of a quarter of a century long experiment in laissez faire and trickle down economics. We tried it. It didn't work. Capitalism is great. Unchecked capitalism is/was the recipe for disaster.

Frankly? The news people (editors, reporters, etc all of them) that artificially made such a huge stink about a private citizen's petty/pissy actions such that you found out about it and got pissed. This is as good as any other tangential blame I've seen so far. Sounds good to me, so long as we similarly hold accountable the media for propagating mindless, petty/pissy, ignorance peddling in general.

Hmmm...so for Christians we wait until AFTER they break the law before we prosecute/persecute them. Why not give Muslims the same degree of respect? Either that or we should shut down construction of new Churches to prove that we're not Islamophobic bigots.

Who was President on 1/26/2009? Who was President on 2/17/2009? And in January of 2009 what did the OMB say the projected deficit would be, even without any stimulus spending? If Ron Paul had been president #44 he would have inherited a $1.2 Trillion deficit, collapsing banking, housing and auto industries and a crashing stock market. Would that have been his fault? Would he have let those businesses fail? Would he have borrowed money to stimulate the economy or would he have been a true capitalist and let them all crash?

Insurance death panel gives thumbs down to five year old boy
idrankwhat replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Inference. Actually, it seems that the inference is hypocrisy, not blame. -
Don't worry. There's a fair chance that these bleeding heart greenies here in SC won't bring up the Speaker's jet come December. Theyll be too busy defending the conservatives as they get back to growing the federal government.

Thread bump to give Blink the proper recognition he deserves. This was the setup I had in mind when I bought the "Blink Box", the most underrated, undermarketed, yet highly complimented CX cage on the market. I get lots of kudos for your work Blink and it makes a great platform for the flash. Thanks again. Sorry for the delay in posting.

Save the environment, buy a Hummer avoid a Prius
idrankwhat replied to brenthutch's topic in Speakers Corner
Getting back to the topic of the thread, I'm probably going to pick up a used prius this week. In a couple of years when the warranty is almost up and gas prices are likely climbing it will be time for the Hymotion plug in conversion. Not only does the Prius utilize the plant based, oxymoronic "eco-plastics" in its construction, it also will allow me to get 75-100 mpg. Which means that we won't have to use nearly as many taxpayer funded Pentagon resources to secure my commute to work.
