  1. a little correction, if you go looking for the te toa ching, you won't find it, try the Lao Tze's Tao Te Ching. It's called Dao De Jing as well. Personally, I am partial to this book, and would recommend it.
  2. pistachio! Hell yeah! I'm vegan now, but 5 years ago, that was different story.
  3. i like lace, rope and the outdoors, in any combo/order. plus most other things. Oh! and lately, in a curious twist, I seem to like asian women.... you're up!
  4. damn you! I knew someone would call me on that....
  5. sawzalls... is that what I'm thinking? does that even work? lol, nice. that's creative.
  6. Holy shit guys can we all not jump on the hacking bandwagon? We don't need bad blood around here. Some may not find the fantasy tasteful, but it was just a fantasy, it wasn't my kind of thing, but neither are 14" dildos or mouth gags, but some people like that. We're a freaky bunch here, that much is true, so before hacking on someone else for something; think about all that weird shit you like first. Lets turn this into a constructive thread and post the freaky shit you're down with!
  7. that's beautiful. I like the line "I'd like to wear you as a hat"
  8. good luck with the job hunt!
  9. Like the others, I’d like to first say that I’m glad you’re alright. And second, I have no real constructive comments to make on the jump. I've been in these forums for 2 years now, since 2001, and in that time have made 19 jumps. Not a hell of a lot compared to your 500ish. I'm about 1 jump away from being off student status. When I'll actually make that jump I have no idea. I've been sitting quietly, with 414 posts, over 2 years, reading these forums, _everyday_. I've seen a lot of advice given, rejected and accepted. Geronimo's advice may have not been worded in the typical gental fashion of DZ.com, but it's still entirely valid. Rude? How can someone educating other from potentially killing himself or herself be rude? If I almost kill myself, don't praise me in public and crit me in private, that's not the point of these boards. The crit is public here so that we can ALL learn, in the most direct way, rather than 2-3 pages of people telling you way to go as we've seen for countless other posters. I wanted someone other than you, to hack apart your experience and analyze it from a perspective. It may be the nature of this close-nit community, in which I'm a loose thread, to continually congratulate people and keep the tone as a positive one (and that has it’s place); but I don't think that in a sport with the consequences skydiving has, that that is always the best approach. With the stakes at risk here, a poignant, and sharply worded commentary is occasionally serves as a welcomed, grounding, reminder of what we’re gambling.
  10. managing the drafting for this office. If people would be upfront about when they really need their plans by I could get them to them alot easier. If people would be clear in what they want the FIRST time it'd save their budgets. If my damn computer would log all my time spent on projects (and not on dz.com) then I wouldn't have to log my time, which would make today (timesheet day) a lot easier.
  11. noted sir! Good tips for sure. I will do just that, make a list. Thanks everyone
  12. yeah, I like your thinking. There is a part in my contract that says that for 1 year after termination by either party, I cannot work for company A. HOWEVER that contract was written with respect to company A, not, to the new company that I believe may emerge if a certain merger happens between Company A and C, and that's when they want to scoop me.
  13. keen observation. I suppose they do...
  14. WHOA! depressing senario. Basically I have told them that I'm unhappy with my current position, and that I'm at the point now where I need to look at more stable, profitable work for me, and that while I find it very interesting and enjoy the work I do with Company A, its just not in my best interest to continue under the current arrangement. Which they fully understand, because they're not too fond of the fact that half of what they get billed goes to some face who they never see (sub-contracting boss). But after having had words with the higher-ups they seem very interested in keeping me around, so it will be an interesting week to see how this plays out. In anycase, it's a very educational experience.
  15. hmm.. hon-nest-y.... alright, I'll give it a shot.
  16. yeah, that's the reason I'm a hot commodity, is that I began like 5 years ago as a drafter, but have since virtually become a enviro/civil designer, so I take a lot of weight off the the engineers etc in the office. And they can't find many people like me that easily so they want to keep me around... If I ventured in the slipstream; Between the via-ducts of your dreams.......could you find me?
  17. hmm... judging from your replies... maybe it is crazy enough to work.... maaybee.... Anyone ever been in a simalr situation?
  18. Ok, here's my situation: I've been working for a company for the last year that sub-contracts draftsmen/designers out to engineering companies that don't have in-house drafting for themselves. Over the course of the last year, the company I've been stationed at has become quite attached to me (Company A), since I work at their office and have for the last year. So just last week, one of them found out that I was applying to a new job with a competing firm (Company B), and this really freaked them out. Where I work now, I don't get sick days,. vacations, stat. holiday pay, benefits, etc, so it's really in my best interest to quit this sub-contracting business and just work full time for a firm. So now that they know this, they've asked me to let them know what happens with Company B so that they can out-'bid' them and win me if it comes to that. So it seems to me that Company A really only wants to fight for me when faced with the prospect of losing me. SO! If I don't get an offer from Comapny B, then, I wonder if Company A will just cool their heels, which brings me to the subject of this poll: Should I, even if I don't get the job with Company B, still give Company A the impression that I'm leaving, basically calling a bluff?
  19. Hey, I work with GIS all the time, ESRI, you say... Cool. I'm intrigued....I'm in Civil Municpal Design, and spent a few years in the environmental sector as well. Remediation mostly, I created the systems that a few of the big guys in the lower mainland like Morrow Env, Gartner Lee, etc use to manage and combine the geospatial data with analyitical. I was on the AutoDesk MAP side of things more than the ERSI side, but I kmow where you're coming from. Just take a step back, like the others say. And who knows, more than once the solution to problems like yours have been delivered to me in my dreams. You'll nail it. If I ventured in the slipstream; Between the via-ducts of your dreams.......could you find me?
