I lost my protrack after only 5 jumps! Anyone hear of the company replacing it? Muff Brother 3723

Does anyone find they have problems with their ears aching after a lot of jumping? Maybe I'm just getting a cold, but I jumped more then usual over the weekend and then took a commercial flight and was in so much pain on the flight my ears just wouldn't pop! And today they still hurt! Muff Brother 3723

Most expensive bit of gear you have lost?

My protrack after only 5 jumps, it taunted me beeping as it went away!!! Muff Brother 3723 -
I decided not to fly with my rig, I had a friend drive it back, but I did have a bag with other jumping stuff, jumpsuit, power tool, log book, and ooops my hook knife! They were more intrested in searching my change purse in my pocket book and didn't even notice the hook knife! Muff Brother 3723

Long hair and deployment dangers (risers).
huka551 replied to stanbridge's topic in Safety and Training
I just got about 3 inches cut off my hair which was down to my butt. I used to do pigtail braids, but found I was getting beaten up when freeflying. Now I do one braid in the back, and have never had a problem with it even snagging a little on anything. The other forum had some very helpful hints, good luck. Now I'm thinking twice, maybe a swim cap isn't a bad idea! Muff Brother 3723 -
I can't even remember even ever seeing a bird in freefall or under canopy. I don't think birds spend that much time in flight to where they would be around long enough for a meat bomb to interfere with their daily routine. JMO Muff Brother 3723

I began skydiving after my son was already over a year old, and jumped once pregnant with my daughter. After he birth I just kept on jumping. I don't bring her to the dz, just cause I'm there to jump and I don't want to worry whose keeping an eye on her or what kind of trouble she's getting into. I think children do change your life but I don't believe you should sacrifice something you love just because you have a child. You make it work because its something important to you. Good luck! I'm on the cusp between Libra and Scorpio. And Yes I do believe in it. I am sometimes very Libra and sometimes very Scorpio. Muff Brother 3723

I'm ok with Pooky, cutie, sexy, whatever. I used to use Love bug all the time. Muff Brother 3723

A silly fear I have is spotting. I hate the responsibility of deciding if the 'spot is good'. If I wait too long people start to yell (nothing like a little pressure) because we all know the first person out if they take too long they fuck up the spot for the other people on the plane, and if I go too soon I fuck it up for me and have to fight to make it back. I dread being the first one out of the door! Muff Brother 3723

I hate floating! I tried it twice, the first time I freaked in the propblast, and took the guy I was jumping with for a ride or tumble as it were! The next time, I just got disoriented and lost my heading, but still had trouble dealing with the propblast! I am fine in the middle of a train exit, with 1 to 3 other people, cause someone else is getting the prop I would love to be at a point where it is comfortable to be outside the plane (and I'm not at all afraid of heights) hanging on and not be bothered at all and in complete control as float. you never know when shit will hit the fan and you have to bail out to save your ass and may not make it back to dry land. That's my exact point! I look around me at the people on the plane and there are at least 2 other newbies besides myself (ones with 15 jumps or 20 jumps) and I think back to my FJC and something in the equation just doesn't add up. If were flying over water and have to bail out, I know that they only got basic coverage on water landings, because I myself have procrastinated about getting my B lisence mostly because its a pain in the ass to seek someone out who has the time to go over it all with me in detail, will they know what to do? I brought it up to my dz AFF Inst. and he thinks its valid to do live training in AFF. Muff Brother 3723

I feel like a elementary school child who just walked into the teacher's lounge at school... So I wanted to know why Live Water Training or even extensive discussion or perhaps practice on getting out of a rig, isn't part of AFF, but water training is required for a B lisence? I live on an island, so there is water everywhere, and we fly over the water plenty, and after theoretically 7 jumps (in some places) you can jump solo but have no experience to get out of your rig should you have to bail out over water and not be able to get to land. I hope that made sense. I mean as a student going through AFF the only discussion I ever recall about landing in water was PLF! Am I missing some reason why it shouldn't be part of AFF training or Ground school? Muff Brother 3723

I am a total newbie with a very low wing loading, I watch people with tons of experience swoop and spiral. How is it that they don't hook in? How do you know what is too much so you don't kill yourself? Muff Brother 3723

I met a guy at Zhills that had over 15K jumps and no cutaways! (His wife says he worked some shit out that he should have cutaway!) Muff Brother 3723

When you were (or are) a student......
huka551 replied to Mike111's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This is the dumbest thing, but I was afraid of falling out of the plane! Sticking my head out the door, kneeling near the open door, scared me so bad. What's dumb is in about 30 sec. I was going to leave willingly and if I fell out I do have a parchute! But for some reason I was afraid! Muff Brother 3723 -
Flying commercially with your rig
huka551 replied to huka551's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I know this subject has been discussed to death, but I keep finding contradictory opinions on the subject. Where is the best place to find the specifics on what airport security is allowed to do (ie:unpacking the reserve, or hassleing me about bringing my rig on board with my cypres). Muff Brother 3723 -
Jumping while chewing gum = bad idea, right?
huka551 replied to Jeth's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I chew gum in freefall, mostly I pop a piece in my mouth before I get on the plane. It can be tight quarters in the plane and I don't want to be breathing dry mouth stinky breath in someones face. Plus my mouth gets dry in FF so the gum helps keep everything kosher. I never worry about choking, cause come on, who really every chokes on a little piece of trident? Muff Brother 3723 -
If tube stows are stronger and last longer, why do people even use rubber bands? Just a newbie question. Muff Brother 3723

Is it possible to get slammed without realizing it?
huka551 replied to huka551's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ok, good to know. Maybe its my other activities that are making me sore Muff Brother 3723 -
I recently started packing form myself, and the experienced jumpers watching suggested that I stow the excess brake lines in the keepers. My Keepers are velcro and I don't want my lines to get any more fuzzy then they already are (by the way only made 6 jumps on this rig, since I bought it). So I left the excess hanging...made a jump and went to release my brakes and the excess that I didn't stow, got wrapped around my pinky. I had end cell closure on the left so I was steadily turning and couldn't get my right toggle off my pinky to flare (in retrospect I could have used the risers), I turned and struggled with my pinky loosing circulation, until after 500-800 ft later I got it unstuck. First minorly freightening canopy situation, so lesson learned stow the excess, and listen to the ppl who know and are saying it for a reason! Muff Brother 3723

Is it possible to get slammed without realizing it?
huka551 replied to huka551's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have a Hornet 190, and to me it doesn't seem to open hard, but then again I am a newbie, maybe it is hard and I don't realize it. After I jump, in the next day or so I notice that I am sore, my hip bones, my shoulder blades, etc. Is it possible that my hornet opens hard and I don't have the experience to know the difference? Muff Brother 3723 -
Congrats again! The guys there are great! What are you doin at your computer, you should be out celebrating!!! Rock on! See ya in the sky! Muff Brother 3723
