My first ever suit, so didn't know what I was looking for. Merlin were great - spent a long time on the phone talking to me knowing I was new to the sport, but not treating me like an idiot. Very helpful. Arranded shipping to another DZ the other side of the world just to tie in with a holiday of mine. Awesome. The suits good - reinforced bum and knees (both of which I surely needed as my first suit!) but the stiching and zip are pretty weak - the suit split at the back where the elasticated material meets the cotton fabric in the lower back area after about 30 jumps - I emailed Merlin and they said simply restitching it would be ok. Then after about 6 hours in the tunnel the zip stiching broke - the zip appears to have only been attached by one thread from top to bottom on each side so rubbing on the tunnel net killed it sharpish. I've since had a local seamstress replace the zip and upgrade the stitching to sort this. Overall, a nice suit with very helpful staff over at Merlin. Just take it steady in the tunnel, or maybe talk it over with Merlin to see if they cant reinforce it before hand :)

shipping problem new rig from US to europe
RossDagley replied to pasqual's topic in Gear and Rigging
Not disputing that - just saying the government are wankers because of it -
Get booties from the outset and tuck them up if you have to. I did AFF in a bootie suit without having to tuck them up (had previous tunnel time with the suit though). It'll be up to your instructor but as people have posted above, its nothing duck tape cant sort

shipping problem new rig from US to europe
RossDagley replied to pasqual's topic in Gear and Rigging
As Chris said - hand carry it. I just got stung £40 tax by customs for a *repair* to my rig returning from the US - clearly labled as such. -
Best bet is to give us a call to discuss

Nigel, 2" would make all the difference to you

I spend several hours a day in the tunnel, and have never had them come undone since a simple double bow. But then again, I never undo them to take them off - do you leave yours permenantly done up?

I've flown in two of the tunnels listed, Orlando and Bedford. The Bedford tunnel I'm obviously going to say I "prefer", but the Orlando tunnel has some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet, and some of the most experienced Instructors on the face of the earth. I'd have to say its how you measure "best". If best to you is convenience or price, then thats great. Nothing like a (cheap) tunnel on your doorstep, and if thats Aerokart or some other then thats cool in my eyes. If you score "best" as largest, or most powerful, then theres only one answer... And I'm lucky enough (and humbled enough) to work there. Its like working at the worlds best DZ - on a daily basis I talk to, and watch champions fly. If I'm really lucky, I get to fly with them or get coaching from them. THATS my "best".

Was good to meet you - pleased you enjoyed/valued it so much! Hope to see you back soon! Ross

Uni Club - How did you get gear?
RossDagley replied to udder's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In Auz or the US or what? -
Being one of the "gray beards" of today, what I do when the winds come up or get gusty is what the old timers did when I was a newer jumpers. Just sitting back and watching the show.

Karma dude. Karma.

Resprayed Z1 evo by the looks of things.

Rumour has it they're experienced tunnel flyers, one of which is a skydiver.

but your describing it like the main inflates instantly - it doesn't. as it comes out of the bag, its barely bigger than the slider, which in turn is bearly bigger than the pilotchute. I just cant picture it being a problem.
