  1. Thanks Rob. Having looked at the video earlier this post combined with what you said I think its got a little clearer! I'll think about giving this a go the next time I pack but it'll be a nervous pull-time as no one I know of at my DZ packs like this so I cant see a 'real' example Thanks again
  2. Rob, would you be kind enough to explain this a little more for me? I'm still struggling a little to get it in the bag - I propack with the usual s-fold at the moment. Is this sleeping-bag method simply a matter of keeping the skin taught at the 'back' of the canopy as I pick it up and rolling it down towards my knees (still on the lines/slider presumably), or have I got the image wrong? Does this method require a bridle extension as mine is a pretty standard (short) length I think. Thanks for taking the time to explain :) Ross
  3. Yep. Here's the result of a drive home from the DZ about 8 weeks ago. Not as impressive as yours, but still DZ 'related' http://www.dagley.co.uk/skydive/crashed.jpg
  4. Thanks for that John - I'd not heard before. I'll bear it in mind as a 'backup' to my normal thought process! I'll give this a try on my next jump (hopefully with a fully functioning canopy however !)
  5. I think packerkevin's concern was the size of your main/reserve on student status whe YOU jumped that rig (according to how your earlier statement reads).
  6. Not with a Nav280. Besides that, what if they don't pull? Would they have to repeat? If they dont pull, I suspect they wont be repeating much of anything
  7. I did AFF in DeLand and completed in 4 jumps. Straight in at AFF level 4 with one instructor. One repeat. Then did a Scott Miller canopy control course to make up for my total lack of 'student' experience in the landing/approach department. It was good to go through AFF so quickly on the one hand - on the other, I was a very nervous canopy pilot until about 30 jumps because I'd not had the canopy experience...
  8. You'll find this with tunnels. What you'll also find is it can be better to book your time (even with a coach) as a 15 minute slot which the tunnel can work in around the paying punters rather than a 30 minute or an hour block, which you'll have to fill solidly. IE, do two 15 minute blocks back to back, with paying Jo-Public in at the same time, rather than a 30 minute block 'solid' which you cannot fly.
  9. And maybe this should be in 'bonfire'? Im Ross by the way - Ross Dagley
  10. Is that how the USPA licence system works? Your licence number changes as you change licence type? The BPA issue a licence number, and its simply prepended with the licence qualification (A in my case at the moment) and I keep that number for life.
  11. Yep - as pointed out just above, its http://www.merlinsuits.com - If you give them a ring, please tell them Ross sent you so I get my fat referral check

  13. Get home from a nasty day at work only to find... A new FF suit waiting for me! Wahoo!! Fits like a glove, and the second suit I've got from Merlin now - top marks for a great build quality and design. I gave an outline of what I wanted to Christine @ Merlin, sent her a rough drawing, and this is the result! To say I'm chuffed is an understatement. http://www.dagley.co.uk/ross/skydiving/ffsuit1.jpg http://www.dagley.co.uk/ross/skydiving/ffsuit2.jpg http://www.dagley.co.uk/ross/skydiving/ffsuit3.jpg
  14. I'm pretty sure that Sunshine likes being beaten. Especially if it's with a packing paddle. Soooo, should we all line up for a sunshine paddling? Im a long way away - photos please
  15. ... on 20,000 posts on DZ.com Thats BEER isnt it?
  16. Do you have a tunnel close to you? 15 minutes coaching in one will transform your body position and control.
  17. lol - i hadn't thought of that. Maybe he wants to do a deal - I've got some wireless LAN cleaner for sale... http://j-walk.com/other/wifispray/
  18. I think you've got it Tom - the lower jump number guys (like me!) want you to know every jump much like a kid boasts he is "six and a half years old" not just "six" When you get older, that differentiation doesn't matter so much I guess. I suppose once I pass 150 or something jumps I'll start rounding, but for the time being, every jump counts! For the record, I still write an essay about every jump - I've a two-per-page logbook and I try to get as much detail as I can in - whats a few minutes now when I might want to look back in years to come.
  19. Well my only rig is an Icon, and I just studied it - and as my past posts show, asked lots about how it (and rigs in general) are built. I'm pretty interested in the 'rigging' aspect. I think all you can do is a regular gear check (although one mans gear check is another mans glance - mines pretty thorough). Be nice to know the reserves hooked up etc, but only your rigger can tell you that I'm sure someone with more experience than both of us will come along in a minute and give some proper advice! Edit to add: wendy got there before me
  20. I'll buy it - and pay the escrow I'll be demanding.
  21. If your rigger does a full inspection then your normal equipment checks will do. Whats the problem? When you say its a different rig, is it a different canopy too? That would benefit from a hop-and-hop or two to learn the new canopy. Other than that, the handles are in the same place, the Icon's a pretty standard rig (even if the 3-rings look a little funky) - go jump it and try not to get it dirty
  22. I cant answer that as I dont have the knowledge, but if you watch the video (link above) thats exactly what happens - flaring causes the canopy to collapse more, hence the harder than 'planned' landing. IMHO (for what its worth) he really should have chopped. But he walked away - so...
  23. And thanks hookitt, i'm grateful for the insight. I guess the fact I wanted this done just kinda got me thinking, and theres such a wealth of info out there (with people like yourself kind enough to offer their time FOC to educate) its kinda hard to resist asking questions Thanks again.
  24. Thanks sparky I'll give it a go when I next jump. I have tried slackening off the chest strap a little, but it didn't help. I'll have to be a bit careful slackening off the leg straps too much, as I'm running 18" risers already because my shoulder problem means those two extra inches make life easier reaching for the toggles/slider - wouldn't want to run into a situation where i cant grab my toggles I'll give that a try though, it sounds like it might help a little.
