Re-soak the book and place it under something heavy for a day to flatten out the pages... then, open it up and let it air out to dry. Redo as much of the book as you can in another OR, start a new book leaving off from your last jump. Take the new book and the old book to an S&TA to endorse the first log of the new book as verified jumps. Keep the old one in case you need to go for a rating of some type. It happens and as long as you have the old and the new, most instructional Course Directors have known something like that to happen. You may want to develop a better story than the washer/dryer thing...make it more melodramatic. "No shit, there I was..." In all seriousness... it happens. The most common resolution is to have the S&TA endorse the new book and if your DZ can create a report on you... that helps as supporting documentation.

Part of my "check Canopy" procedures on opening is to: start at the right top side of the canopy and look down to the links (visually inspect), then the risers at the links to ensure there are no tears, then check the right cutaway cable length, the right 3 rings, then move to the left 3 rings and work my way back up... before I do my steerability checks. Back in the 80s there was a video circulating where a right riser just shredded on opening... I remember thinking, "That would really suck at a couple of hundred feet."

Just received an email and got off the phone with the USPA. They are very receptive to the ring idea and are going to discuss it amongst the board after the first of the year. In the meantime, they will contact the ring manufacturer to start the information-gathering process. If you have an interest in a USPA wing ring, you may wish to continue voting.

If the new policy is directed at everyone, I wonder if its a knee-jerk shotgun approach to those managers who need to spend more time at work. You might want to ask for some clarity regarding the new rule; if you were a target, or if it was meant as an organizational issue. If you're one of there better employees, they might see the shotgun approach was a little too wide pattern and discuss it with you. Sometimes a little open organizational communication is better than be branded as a trouble-maker and jeopardizing the potential for advancement. Course, I don't know the full picture, its something you'll have to decide. This is merely; food for thought before you file the complaint.

It might be best to do your personal surfing on personal time. These days, corporate IT departments are placing server logs which gather information about your session. Information logged includes items such as your IP address, what browser you are using, the time and date you visited, how long your session lasted, and what pages you visited. There are client applications that will block these server apps, but those too will show up as being downloaded in the IT department. Most organizations don't mind their employees doing job-related research on the job, but they have noticed a reduction in productivity from personal surfing. If you like your job, its best to not try to "trick" the system. Most I.T. guys know what you're doing and when you're doing it on the computer. They are crafty little bastards... (just think about having a team of Ivan's working for you)

Great first impressions... You really don't need to give us any 750' impressions though..

I've sent an email to the USPA regarding this poll to see if they would be receptive to the USPA wings being used on a ring.

Its not about "honors." You have an honor on your wall from the navy, a shirt from the GKs, Buddy Blue was recently honored as a GK, academia awards honorary doctorates, girl wears her dads Airborne wings to honor him. GK's gave me a hat pin. All explainable and understandable. The GK's also gave me a bumper sticker, but I don't have it on my truck. The reason being is; I don't want to be driving down the road and imply there's a GK in the truck. I can't explain to that person why the sticker was given to me, so I don't display it. The Airborne Wings were misrepresented as "Skydiver Wings." They are not. Folks who may be new to skydiving and not having knowledge of Airborne Wings might purchase them thinking they were skdyiver wings. They wear them. SOmeone who went to Airborne School approaches them and asks questions... within 8 seconds that skydiver is going to be doing a lot of backstepping. Why not use the Army HALO wings? That would be a bit closer to skydiver type wings. You know its got a great square canopy and wings on it. Most skydivers have done considerably more jumps than those who've gone thru HALO and in some cases even from higher alititudes. Because in either case, you have to receive them by actually going to the school. Anyway, I'm done with this. Wouldn't Lawrocket have to always be right? Socrates: What Plato is about to say is false. Plato: Socrates has just spoken truly.

Awesome feedback, Jeremy. I sent the manufacturer the thread to observe and like your suggestion.

All, The ad will be withdrawn as "Skydiver Wings" and depending on the interest of those who are Airborne qualified who wish to purchase the ring may continue as the "Classic Airborne" ring. I own one of the sterling silver Master Blasters and can tell you they are finely crafted rings. In the meantime, perhaps the designer can approach the USPA about using their wings as a "Skydiver Wings" ring or if the UPSA for copyright reasons decides against it, design his own. There are some costs associated with creating the mold, advertising, etc. The poll will help to know if the skydiving community has a sincere interest in purchasing its own "Wing Ring" which can be worn proudly as a symbol of excellence. This is information-gathering. Hopefully, with enough support and if it goes into production, perhaps the manufacturer will consider a banner ad on Dropzone.com down the road.

They've communicated with me and I'm about to post... its cool... thanks. I'm going to start a new thread with their response and a poll. We may have found a mutual goal. Thanks all.

However, they went to a military sanctioned school. And your thoughts on those who purchase PhDs and represent themselves as Dr. is?

Yeah. I got the Sterling Silver one for around $120.00 and I "think" gold was going for around $320.00

Here's the letter I just sent the ring manufacturer. Keith B. Laub US Army Airborne School (Honor Graduate) 1980 Special Forces Association D-3896

This month's "Parachutist" has an advertisement (p.78) announcing "The New Skydiver's Ring." The set of wings cast in the ring are those of the US Army Airborne. IMO, if you haven't gone to jump school, you shouldn't be wearing those particular wings. There is a long military history associated with them. While I applaud the idea... Perhaps the manufacturer could work out something with the USPA regarding its wings.
