  1. Skydive Finger Lakes bought their Cessna 182 jump plane last month. It is currently flying jumpers here in Ovid, N.Y.
  2. I sat through the last Board Meeting in February and the treasurer, Albert Berchtold, explained in detail why the dues needed to be raised. I won't try to explain everything but it is not just the current 2% inflation but the inflation every year since the last dues increase. Why don't you e-mail him at skydivinal@yahoo.com for a detailed explanation.
  3. Back in the late 1970's, there was a guy in upstate New York who occasionally flew one for skydiving but it wasn't a regular DZ jump plane.
  4. I also posted this on the tandem forum. Having or getting a DUI/DWI does not necessarily prevent someone from getting or keeping their medical. Most pilots and even more tandem instructors do not know the FAA requirements for reporting DUI/ DWI/ drug related action, they must be reported within 60 days to; Federal Aviation Administration Security and Investigations Division (AMC-700) P.O. Box 25810 Oklahoma City, OK 73125 Failure to do this may result in suspension or revocation of the medical. You can't wait until your next medical to notify the FAA. In addition, if you ever held a an FAA medical in the past and it expired long ago, you still have to notify the FAA within 60 days of an action if you ever plan to get a medical in the future. The FAA keeps records for a long time and may deny your future medical. See the links below for more information and an example of the letter required. After the initial notification, a follow up letter notifying the FAA of the outcome will usually result in no action. Many states as a result of a DWI will require some sort of alcohol program or counseling. This should be included in the letter. https://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/ash/ash_programs/investigations/airmen_duidwi/duidwi_reporting/ https://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/ash/ash_programs/investigations/airmen_duidwi/airman_faqs/

  6. There is one sure way to prevent Donald Trump from being the 45 th President. President Obama could resign making Joe Biden # 45. Trump would be #46.
  7. I have done several Cessna jump conversions and I get a letter from the local FSDO (FAA) office, "Operating limitations for flight with door removed". It states in # 5 that "all occupants" must wear parachutes....." I am not sure if they consider the pilot an occupant. We have always had the pilot wear an emergency parachute. I guess a clarification from the FAA would be needed. 8/31/2010 8130.2G 2-31 Figure 2-3. 8. Our gov't. does not work that way. The ACA was an act of Congress, they are the only ones who can change it. Pres. Obama could veto or approve any change(s) presented to him. Jerry Baumchen PS) ACA = Affordable Care Act Are you saying it is not real, it's just an Act
  9. The two-seat, single-engine, high-wing airplane was manufactured in 1971 and was equipped with a Lycoming O-200 series engine. The most recent annual inspection was completed on July 5, 2015, at 3,488 total airframe hours. I don't think Lycoming made an O-200 engine.
  10. Jumped Mr Douglas, Our Douglas, Agent Orange, Firestone, Bird Machine, Southern Cross, The Tiger striped from LSU and maybe one or two more. Also a couple Load Stars. I also owned and operated a Beech Queen Air with IGSO 480 engines and one with IGSO 540's. Talk about loud.
  11. You mean the gastropod mollusk.
  12. When it first came out, I bought the manual and tapes but did not buy the kit. I was cleaning out a bunch of stuff and gave it away last month. I listened to all the tapes back in the 80's while driving to the Nationals in Muskogee, OK. I also know a guy who built the parachute and jumped it.
  13. Some where on dropzone.com, some one rated Finger Lakes Skydivers in Ovid, NY as the second most beautiful DZ in the US. They ranked Skydive Moab first. Finger Lakes Skydivers has a spectacular view of the Finger Lakes Region, a series of 11 glacial dug lakes that run north and south like the fingers on a hand. http://www.fingerlakes.org/about-the-region/lake-information http://fox41blogs.typepad.com/wdrb_weather/2013/11/fascinating-high-res-satellite-image-of-finger-lakes-in-new-york.html
  14. If you tell a lie and get away with it, it makes it easier to do it again. If you believe what you hear and read, Hillary has been getting away with that for years. Brian Williams got canned (suspended) from NBC for exaggerating a couple stories on a late night talk show. I guess we hold our news anchors to higher standards than our presidential candidates.
  15. My wife and I (she is also a skydiver) saw it today. Lots of action but weak plot. It is not the kind of movie I would see twice.
  16. Finger Lakes Skydivers started using piggy back rigs for students in 1984 and square mains in 1985. Not sure when we started using square reserves, early 1990's.
  17. During an annual / 100 hour inspection, the rocker covers are not normally removed. If the compression was low, you may do a bore scope inspection and possibly remove the rocker cover to find the cause. If the compression was good, (at the last inspection) there would be no need to remove the cover. Everything under the cover is covered in oil and it is unlikely anything would rust. Maybe the springs had rust pits when installed and springs fail for other reasons also.
  18. I also have 40+ years of Parachutist Magazine and all of the Skydiving Magazines. Free, come and get them or pay for shipping. John King
  19. From the USPA Governance Manual, Section 3, ELECTIONS: H. December 10: No later than this date, headquarters will have verified, counted, and/or tallied the ballots and distributed the results, notifying new and old board members of the dates and place of the next board meeting.
  20. I was at the PIA Symposium when Helmut Cloth introduced the Cypress AAD. He stated his reason for the 750 foot activation altitude but I don't remember what it was. You will have to ask him
  21. +1 I was wondering when an airplane owner was going to put things in perspective. At one time, I had 5 airplanes and my wife had 2. It is a little more reasonable now, I have 3 airplanes and 1 helicopter and my wife has 1 airplane. I also own an airport so storage isn't a problem. If you like airplanes and skydiving, being a DZO is a pretty good gig.
  22. My wife and I have been together for 32 years and married for 25. She made her 4000th jump a couple weeks ago. When I started skydiving, my girlfriend at the time said "it's me or skydiving" Still skydiving after 42 years.
  23. I noticed in the picture what appear to be 3 rolls of toilet paper sitting on the table, interesting and amusing.
