  4. Document: Iran Caught Red-Handed Shipping Arms to Taliban June 06, 2007 6:00 PM blogs.abcnews.com Brian Ross and Christopher Isham Report: NATO officials say they have caught Iran red-handed, shipping heavy arms, C4 explosives and advanced roadside bombs to the Taliban for use against NATO forces, in what the officials say is a dramatic escalation of Iran's proxy war against the United States and Great Britain. "It is inconceivable that it is anyone other than the Iranian government that's doing it," said former White House counterterrorism official Richard Clarke, an ABC News consultant. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates stopped short earlier this week of blaming Iran, saying the U.S. did not have evidence "of the involvement of the Iranian government in support of the Taliban." But an analysis by a senior coalition official, obtained by the Blotter on ABCNews.com, concludes there is clear evidence of Iran's involvement. "This is part of a considered policy," says the analysis, "rather than the result of low-level corruption and weapons smuggling." Iran and the Taliban had been fierce enemies when the Taliban was in power in Afghanistan, and their apparent collaboration came as a surprise to some in the intelligence community. "I think their goal is to make it very clear that Iran has the capability to make life worse for the United States on a variety of fronts," said Seth Jones of the Rand Institute, "even if they have to do some business with a group that has historically been their enemy." The coalition analysis says munitions recovered in two Iranian convoys, on April 11 and May 3, had "clear indications that they originated in Iran. Some were identical to Iranian supplied goods previously discovered in Iraq." The April convoy was tracked from Iran into Helmand province and led a fierce firefight that destroyed one vehicle, according to the official analysis. A second vehicle was reportedly found to contain small arms ammunition, mortar rounds and more than 650 pounds of C4 demolition charges. A second convoy of two vehicles was spotted on May 3 and led to the capture of five occupants and the seizure of RPG-7mm rockets and more than 1,000 pounds of C4, the analysis says. Also among the munitions are components for the lethal EFPs, or explosive formed projectiles, the roadside bombs that U.S. officials say Iran has provided to Iraqi insurgents with deadly results. "These clearly have the hallmarks of the Iranian Revolution Guards' Quds force," said Jones. The coalition diplomatic message says the demolition charges "contained the same fake U.S. markings found on explosives recovered from insurgents operating in the Baghdad area." "We believe these intercepted munitions are part of a much bigger flow of support from Iran to the Taliban," the message says. The Taliban receives larger supplies of weapons through profits from opium dealing, officials say, but the Iranian presence could be significant. "It means the insurgency in Afghanistan is likely to be prolonged," said Jones. "It would be a much more potent force."

Actually it was a minority group that cheered each MINORITY student of the same race. It took about five minutes extra, each time they were handed the almighty sixth grade diploma. No further learnin needed up in here... Yo I especially took note of the 14year old mom graduating that day from the sixth grade. I also did not hear a peep out of that crowd for our daughter who received the presidential academic excellence award.

  10. Ex-Sheriff's Deputy to Be Executed Wednesday, June 6, 2007 9:36 AM EDT The Associated Press By MICHAEL GRACZYK HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Michael Griffith is about to pay with his life for violating the law he once swore to enforce. The former Harris County sheriff's deputy was set for execution Wednesday evening for the rape, robbery and stabbing death of a Houston woman more than 12 years ago. Griffith, one of the few former lawmen ever on death row, is the first of five convicted killers scheduled for lethal injection this month in Texas. The slaying of Deborah McCormick, 44, came nearly two years after Griffith, who rose to the rank of sergeant over his 10-year career, was fired for violating the sheriff's department policy on domestic abuse. McCormick was alone in her family's Houston flower shop and wedding chapel in October 1994 when she let in Griffith, a repeat customer. He asked for six long-stem roses and then pulled out a gun. Griffith, 56, was arrested after the robbery and attack. He was found with credit cards linked to the store, as well as a knife and a receipt for the roses. McCormick's mother, Mary Ringer, left briefly on the day of the murder. When she returned, she found her daughter's body, stabbed 11 times. "My mother was always welcoming and very friendly," said McCormick's daughter, Dawn Kirkland, who planned to watch Griffith's execution. "If anything, he hasn't spoken out at all. I would like to know why, why her of all people. Then again, I might not like the answer." Griffith also was convicted of committing two violent robberies in the month McCormick was killed. In one, evidence showed he shot a woman in the head during the robbery of a savings and loan office. In the other, he robbed and sexually assaulted a woman at a bridal salon. Both women survived and testified against him. Former wives and girlfriends also testified about him abusing them. One said he became violent with her on their wedding day. "It's amazing to see a policeman go bad like that," said Ira Jones, who prosecuted Griffith. "Policemen make mistakes. They are human beings. But to go that bad, there's something seriously wrong." Griffith, 56, would be the 15th condemned inmate executed this year in Texas, the nation's busiest capital punishment state. He has declined to speak with reporters. The U.S. Supreme Court in January refused to review his case and Griffith's lawyer planned no additional appeals to try to block the execution. "I have consulted my client on this — about filing anything on his behalf," James Rytting said. "There's nothing left." During his trial, a medical examiner testified the knife found on Griffith was used to repeatedly stab McCormick. DNA tests tied it to the victim and to Griffith. "The evidence against him was overwhelming," said David Cunningham, his trial lawyer. "We didn't contest the issue of guilt-innocence. It was a punishment case from the start." A defense psychologist said Griffith had a borderline personality disorder that showed up against wives and girlfriends whose actions reminded him of growing up in Los Angeles, where his mother was described as often angry and violent when drunk. After Griffith, scheduled to die next is Cathy Henderson, facing lethal injection June 13 for the 1994 slaying of a 3-month-old child she was baby-sitting. Henderson has insisted the child's skull was fractured accidentally when she dropped him. His body was found 18 days after she and the child disappeared, buried in a field in a wine cooler box. She said she panicked and fled to her native Missouri. Henderson would be the fourth woman executed in Texas since the state resumed carrying out capital punishment in 1982 and the 12th nationally since the U.S. Supreme Court in 1976 allowed the death penalty to resume. ——— Quote The only good side to this is that he was caught, tried, convicted, and will be dead soon. At least this POS will never have the chance to harm anyone else. I doubt that this was the only crime of this nature he comitted.

  17. Yep that was in our local newspaper. I just had a feeling from the beginning that it was too good to be true. Feral, my ass. No doubt, I asked a farmer friend about this after reading the latest article. He said that pig would have to have nearly constant food, and lots of it. I doubt a 160 acre parcel would provide enough for an entire herd of wild pigs and still develop a hog that size, unless you have some feeders set up.

  22. Let me ask you a hypothetical question. What do you think America would do if Canadian soldiers were firing dozens of missiles every day into Buffalo, N.Y.? What do you think our response would be if Mexican troops for two years had launched daily rocket attacks on San Diego -- and bragged about it? I can tell you, our response would look nothing like Israel's restrained and pinpoint reactions to daily missile attacks from Gaza. We would use whatever means necessary to win the war. There would likely be numerous casualties on our enemy's side, but we would rightfully hold those who attacked us responsible. More than 1,300 rockets have been fired into Israel from Gaza since Palestinians were given control two years ago. Israelis, however, have gone to incredible lengths to stop the war against them without harming Palestinian non-combatants. But make no mistake, Israel is at war. The elected Hamas government regularly repeats its official promise to destroy Israel entirely and replace it with an Islamic state. Hamas openly took credit for killing one woman and wounding dozens more last week alone. The Palestinian strategy is to purposely target and kill Israeli civilians. Then, when Israel goes after those launching the attacks, Palestinians claim to be the victims. If Palestinian civilians aren't hurt in the Israeli attacks, they stage injuries and deaths. Too often, they garner sympathy and support from a gullible or anti-Semitic media in the international community. Israelis, themselves, are often incapable of facing the damage they inflict in self-defense. Knowing this, Islamic extremists are using their own populations as human shields. I'm beginning to wonder how much longer this vicious plot will work though. International sympathy for Palestinians has diminished as the same Islamofascist extremists have brought havoc to Madrid, Bali, Somalia, London and elsewhere. More importantly, Israelis themselves are suffering so badly, they may be on the verge of losing their sympathy for the people who have sworn to kill them. Imagine what it would be like to live, knowing that a rocket could fall on you or your children at any minute. Half of those who live nearest to Gaza have fled their homes. Those remaining are traumatized by daily warning sirens and explosions. The irony is that Israel has the military might to easily win the war that is being waged against them today. They haven't used that might, in the past, out of compassion for Palestinian civilians and because it could trigger a wider regional conflict. That balance of power is about to change, though. If Iran develops nuclear weapons, the very existence of this tiny nation of Israel will be threatened. The Iranian regime has left little doubt that it intends to see Israel "wiped off the map.” Hamas is using the same language, not coincidentally, and has announced it will begin launching missiles into Israel from the West Bank too. If the world doesn't act to stop Iran's nuclear ambitions, it must be prepared for the consequences of Israel defending itself. posted by Fred Dalton Thompson on 5/30/2007 5:38:37 PM
