Should they make a reality show on the life of Skydivers?
Hambone replied to goofyjumper's topic in The Bonfire
The Screech guy came to my school and talked, he is very bitter about Saved By The Bell. He said they used to treat him like crap cuz he was smaller and younger, and a nerd. He also said there was a lot of intercast sex. Yeah...You need to grow up. -Skymama -

I think that it would have its merits, but could go either way. But i agree that it could be a Public relations nightmare. Yeah...You need to grow up. -Skymama -

I haven't been in the sport very long, actually it will be a year on 19th of this month, I was brought into it by my wonderful girlfriend. that helped me to be accepted with her group of friends, mostly people that she was in school with, and her team members. I have felt that there are people that are sometimes "too cool" but for the most part people are willing to work with you and teach you and just want to hang out with you. Alot of times the feeling that people get about not being accepted or not being as close to people comes from the fact that maybe they don't stay around after the jumping is done. I feel like that is when most of the real bonding happens. We (the lady and I) decided that we were going to spend more nonjumping time at the dz. spend more weekends, hang out more, be more a part of the group. It will save us gas money and get us on the first load so i don't see a down side. Also there are amazing people in the sport that you just click with. I was lucky enough to meet one before I even started AFF, and it has helped me to no end. He has forgotten more about the sport than I will ever likely know, and is happy to tell me anything I want to know. In conclusion, I feel like if you stay and hang out you will be accepted eventually. You can't expect to form lasting bonds with no effort, its like anything else you have to work at it, relationships in skydiving are no different. "Crab Cakes and Football, Cuz that's what Maryland DOES!" Yeah...You need to grow up. -Skymama

Just because you chose to live in the north where it gets cold as hell, and snows alot doesn't mean that those of us that live in the south can't complain when our temp hits 25 or even 35 for that matter. And I agree it is cold as hell... Yeah...You need to grow up. -Skymama

When I had just started my girlfriend wouldn't say that that I was a skydiver until I finished AFF. I agree that the A license Idea is a good way to define it, because after the A license you can do pretty much anything...within reason ofcourse. but you can't get mad at the people that claim to be skydivers after doing a tandem. They don't know any better. Yeah...You need to grow up. -Skymama

I remember when i jumped my first pack job. it was at the farm...and i was a bit nervous, but it came out great, and since then i really don't like to let other people pack for me cuz i know how i like it. This is a phase that i am sure that i will grow out of when i start making more green stuff. I found that "practicing" packing helped alot, i would pack my rig once or twice a day so that i could do it faster when i got to the DZ, and would have more time to hang out with the people that i was there to hangout with. Yeah...You need to grow up. -Skymama

Considering switching from Sprint PCS to Cingular Wireless
Hambone replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
cigular is better than sprint. Heads and shoulders above sprint. but Verizon is the clear leader. I switched from Sprint to Verizon, I had to pay to do it, but it has been worth it with the service. I haven't dropped a call yet with Verizon and I have had it for almost 4 months, wtih Sprint in the same time I would have dropped probably around 15 to 20 maybe 30 calls. Cingular is good they have neat phones and good service. Yeah...You need to grow up. -Skymama -

Kool Aid is good stuff, however i have had the same thing happen to be as far as my friends go. They make fun, or poke fun at skydiving, but i think basically they don't understand what they are poking fun at or why they are intimidated, all they know is that they are intimidated, and i think that it makes some people feel a little insecure. just what i am thinking. I do know that once a stranger finds out that you skydive all "normal" conversation that you might have been having is ruined and you will be talking about skydiving for the rest of the night. This happend at my cousin's wedding. I would be talking to someone, my uncle (he is kind of "different") would walk up and be like you know he jumps out of planes right...and there went the conversation. I digress...Damnit i did it again. Ummm...Help... Yeah...You need to grow up. -Skymama

I am not generally one to defend anyone that went to UGA. However this situation finds me in that profound position. It is a little strange. Generally i would be the first to say something like i guess thats all a UGA education is worth, or well have you considered the possibility that he was taught to speak that way at UGA?. But here i am not saying that. I know that when I get excited as I am sure that he was, generally I am not too concerned how things sound. I just speak from the heart and how ever it comes out thats what you get. I mean lets guve the guy a little credit, he had just played in the biggest game of his life, and was voted the Most Valuable Player in that game, then they gave him a car...I would probably give the media some ridiculous sound bite too. I mean if you had stuck a microphone in my face after my first skydive, I shutter to think what I might have said. I would say that if you are looking to make fun of someone Leave HINES Ward alone. He didn't do anything to you, and if you are picking at him soley because he plays for Pit. and you feel like they shouldn't have won. Well thats another story all together. Stay Classy Seattle Yeah...You need to grow up. -Skymama
