  1. But - if Tina saw Cooper with the rig already on -it is probably safe to assume that if he had changed any of his attire to get ready for jumping (like shoes) she would have noticed?? or noticed discarded items of clothing (that could be tossed later) lying around? Doesn't this argue against the "toss" theory? The problem would come in for those who think an experienced jumper is a more likely candidate, because one wouldn't have been dumb enough to jump with shoes. (So maybe Cooper hid the items away ready for tossing, or Tina just didn't notice, and that is probably more than enough rambling for one post.) ckret, do you know anything about this found loafer? and do you know what the history was of the co-operation between the FBI and this military unit that was searching? 2. The John Collins alias is one assertion that has had other back-up. Interestingly there is another thread that states that Duane was in prison under the John Collins alias at the time of the hijack, Jo disputes that hotly but also admits that Duane "disappeared" around that time and no-one knew where he was, so she can't actually prove that he wasn't in prison either. 3. interesting stuff.. wonder what happened to the shoe. also interesting the poster reckoned it put him in the middle of the lake. old-timers: would the chances of injuring an ankle be high landing without shoes in rough terrain on a round...? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  4. fwiw, I also think it is very clear that Agent Carr would like to solve the DB Cooper case. This makes me think that if he saw any value at all in chasing the Duane Weber link any further, he would. Considering the tone/invective Jo has used in many of her posts towards him, I also think he must be a man of considerable patience. Incidentally, Jo I notice all your (c) Jo Weber which makes me wonder - you remarried after Duane died, right? How come you kept Weber as your last name rather than changing it? 5. I don't think your answers are conditional at all!! What you are saying is that even if another suspect's DNA and fingerprints match, you still won't accept it!! What do you think, there were two people in the plane both wearing the tie AND handling the evidence retrieved from the plane?! In other words you simply won't accept anything that doesn't show it was Duane... For the sake of the rest of the debate and as it is an issue again under discussion by a few people, can you please post the PROOF that Duane changed his fingerprints. (rather than what seems to me to be hearsay that James Earl Ray changed his, I thought we had decided we weren't investigating the MLK assassination...) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  6. Jo, let's say the FBI comes up with a match on fingerprints and DNA on another suspect (whether Gosset or someone else). Would you finally accept that it was not Duane (without for example coming up with some kind of coverup theory)? Just a yes or no. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

  8. off the net (where else?!) Two weeks before Cooper's hijacking, a passenger named Paul Cini brandished a handgun aboard an Air Canada flight over Montana. He extorted money and a parachute, just like Cooper, but he was rushed and subdued by the jet's crew when he put down the gun to don the parachute. The FBI's Himmelsbach has said he believes Cooper borrowed his basic plan from Cini and the detail of a bomb in his briefcase from the plot of "Airport," the disaster flick released six months before the Cooper hijacking. from: http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/criminal_mind/scams/DB_Cooper/9.html there are some other links but i can't find much more info than that. 9. $30 to 11K at current exchange rates... in a Cessna. And I think the value of that ticket is worth a lot more here... in a largely poor country, this is already something of an "elite" sport. Oh, and I'm not changing my sig line just because of this thread Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  10. Really, Jo, despite evidence from people including yourself that he has been on the Cooper trail for years? Instead of trying to discredit every other suspect that comes along, why don't you just wait for the FBI to test the fingerprints and take it from there. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  11. So it seems we should get an answer one way or the other when the fingerprint tests get done, ckret can you give us any idea of the timeline when you plan to do the prints? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  12. That is interesting trivia! Do you happen to know what his views were on the theory that Mayfield was Cooper? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  13. Jo, n467us has posted the story but you really should try download it (you need to "save target as". and you should have acrobat on your PC, if not it is downloadable free) - there is a photo on there that bears an absolutely uncanny resemblance to the sketch - the one without sunglasses obscuring anything. 14. [replyGalen Cook called me for a long time and many times yrs ago Jo, you never answered a question I asked a couple of days ago: was Duane ever one of the suspects that Galen Cook looked at? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  15. First, note the evasive "may" Question: does anyone know how easy in the 70s it was to spend/exchange USD in Canada? Would Canadian banks have been on the lookout for the Cooper bills? Would a US bank receiving a pile of bills from a bank outside the country check those against the DB Cooper list? Taking the cash to a country within easy reach but that may not have been on the lookout for those bills is a pretty smart move. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  16. Did you read the article? Nothing to do with court proceedings at all. he worked for the judge in question. But that wasn't the point of the original post anyway; the exchange if it happened, seemed to argue against any original coverup i.e. there was no conspiracy, just a guy who got away with a crime. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  17. Absolutely!! Shoulder dislocation, sure; spine snapping?? but hyperbole aside (cos he has to sound like a hero)... the important thing in terms of the debate here was that he confirmed they did actually use 727s to jump from, at least in training jumps. The article hints Galen has "explanations"... we'll have to wait and see. It seems they did offer prints and DNA to the FBI so we'll presumably get an answer on that at some point. We have one person's opinion on how obnoxious Cook is (and it fits the stereotype of course) but i still think the fact that he seems to have been examining and discarding suspects till he found one that really fits, is a good rather than bad thing in terms of finding the suspect to fit the crime (not choosing a favorite suspect and making the facts fit). snowmman, re the 'cover up' theory, that doesn't seem to tie with the description of a confession to a judge that he left prints behind and was told to shut up... presumably if this judge is still alive cook has interviewed him... if not we are back to "he said yada yada yada". [some judge, btw ...) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  18. If you believe his (Pfarrer's) memoirs, then they certainly did jump from 727s - I've got some direct quotes from him rather than the paraphrasing you quoted, adding in an instance he describes a training jump out of a 727 specifically. No year mentioned that I can see. these quoutes are part of a larger extract on: http://www.ebooks.com/ebooks/book_display.asp?IID=191806 Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  19. Well, that's an... interesting perspective. From what I understand all they are looking for is a fingerprint/DNA test. Like what they did with Duane. How do they decide who is "fabricated" without doing any checks? It's not as if they have anything conclusive on anyone presented to date. And before you go on about the thousand other alleys you want the FBI to investigate, please refer back to your own sentence above - or is it up to you to choose what "even more of the government's money" should be spent on? And for all the concern about the contamination of the DNA on the tie, one thing I doubt anyone would reject would be if the DNA found actually matches someone else - ditto the fingerprints. That would be pretty conclusive evidence. I for one am interested to see where Mr Cook's photo-matching, paratrooper-experienced suspect leads us Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  20. ckret, have read the article now which implies they offered the FBI the prints and the FBI wouldn't check them?? Is this because you didn't have a name ? I agree with 377 this is an odd choice as the paper to break the news... the story is as engaging as any other though, and at least this is someone with proven experience of surviving that type of jump. I also agree with whoever said that this really looks the closest out of all the suspect photos we have seen so far. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  21. Firstly, you have selectively intrepreted what the commutation means - it could be for snitching but you have stated as though it were a fact that it wasn't. Your last point is the more critical one though. I think AggieDave's point is precisely that when we find a suspect with tangible evidence, rather than he said/she said (without anything ever backing that up) - THEN that is something to get excited about. All that your last sentence might "prove" is that no-one has found the right suspect yet. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  22. So the question is Cook's motivation in not allowing you access to the physical evidence yet - is it: - he doesn't want the suspect ruled out on dna/fingerprints and thereby scupper his book; or - he is convinced he has the right guy and doesn't want some hotshot journo to beat him getting a book out once the evidence is confirmed...? i'm still downloading the article - but ckret, can we assume this guy has no criminal record or otherwise you could have checked the fingerprints anyway? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

  24. Maybe the bit that should have been bolded is this: ...in other words, you can draw just about NO conclusions about who he was from what he was wearing! Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
  25. Sorry to harp on about this, but is this the same person you saw freefalling in front of you? i.o.w she said she was pulling at 5K but evidently didn't? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
