But then wouldn't he have been more likely to keep them on when in close proximity to the stewardesses who would have been more likely to take notice of him, than say with the check-in clerk who wouldn't have had any reason to take particular notice of him? A relatively lengthy extract from a longer article, which also includes stuff on their role in defoliation - they prevented forest fires in the US and started them in Vietnam. Source: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3854/is_200607/ai_n17173820/pg_1?tag=artBody;col1 btw Georger hope more smokejumper links don't elicit more of the same response from you Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Yeah, saw the pic - the small guy? The bit about smokejumpers' experience in landing in rough terrain implied they did a lot more than just kicking. Having said that so far my searches don't show insertion, but either kicker or loadmaster work. Put some links below, I have some other stuff I need to do now but will continue the search later, there are some promising links to investigate...

Jo, It is not always easy to get meanings across in words with no non-verbal communication. But please know that the following is said with no malice at all, but rather with sympathy. I am sorry to see you are taking it all so badly. But the difference is really that you are trying to prove Duane was Cooper (to the single minded exclusion of all else), and most others here are trying to find out who Cooper was. btw there were a number of newspaper reports & mentioned on websites etc talking about federal employees on the plane, it is not secret. I'm sorry that the rest of us don't see FBI conspiracies at every turn, but that is just the way it is. It's got nothing to do with being afraid of the govermment (why should I be afraid of the US govt??) but just not seeing that there is anything to "go up against them" with. Because of where this website is, people want to know who Cooper was. If you are looking for people to help you make sense of Duane's life, perhaps you need to look somewhere else. Incidentally I also searched in trying to find stuff about prisoners volunteering for smokejumper programs. The only success i found along those lines was in a movie script... A number of smokejumpers became prisoners however - POWs in SE Asia to be exact once they were jumping there for Air America etfc. If anyone is interested in those stories I can post a couple of links. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Do you really believe that? hey, maybe the FBI was looking in the wrong place. Look at this: And some interesting stuff about the CIA's "hide in plain sight" M.O. at Intermountain, and how CIA operated airlines put other guys out of business and then: Latter might have been a good reason for a "grudge", except that it happened after the hijack. The later stuff is also interesting, including navy &army personnel exercising under civilian cover there and a botched attempt to pass off a fatality as a civilian skydiving accident. How on EARTH does an opinion on Duane affect a scientific analysis of the money? You are going back to your old ways of "if people don't think Duane was Cooper I won't accept anything they say". The only person this reflects badly on is you. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Jumpers come from all sorts of different work backgrounds (as a quick scan of the cars in any DZ lot will show you). In any event, I'll bet more jumpers wore ties to work then than they do now, because more people wore ties. Think of that famous photo of Woodward and Bernstein in the Washington Post newsroom with their ties - how many journalists do you think wear ties to work these days?? 377, hmm well... when you are bashing your head against a brick wall, bashing it harder doesn't soften the wall. There is a DB Cooper page on facebook. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/DB-Cooper/10001004301?ref=s His personal interests are listed as "Hijacking aircraft, parachuting, hiding, and evading capture." Guess who the email contact address is... Incidentally the latest post there is Gossett's son claiming it is his dad. There is also a DB Cooper fan club. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2226981560 Link to Sluggo's site on this page. I suspect some of the posters here already are aware of these sites. There are also 118 profiles with the name DB Cooper, some of whom seem to purport to be the hijacker - I'm not going to sift through all of them. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

didn't do a lot of tracking dives in those days i take it...? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

A lot of the old pictures I see show the guys wearing army style boots - was this to protect your ankles under rounds? It sure wasn't for freefall performance... Just thinking about Cooper and his loafers. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

377: high five! High 5's aside, is this another man/woman thing? Tom focused on the "peregrine" bit. I saw the "rose" and knew it had to be a she. btw p/rose... we've discovered Snow inspects posters to see if they are men or women. Maybe Cooper isn't the only thing he's looking for online Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

lol - your comment in there is priceless Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

But he presumably wasn't in denial - seeing as there are plenty of photos of him in glasses?? As an aside, surely the US has an eyetest as a requirement for a driver's license?? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Actually, I'd bet a blind skydiving hijacker would hit it 10 out of 10 times. How well he'd hit it is another story of course... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Of course, and even today, such is the legacy of colonialism. If the French rather than the British had colonised South Africa I would speak French and not English. Here's our list of possibilities: Francophone Countries of the World - Countries where French is a national language: Belgium Benin Burkina-Faso Burundi Cameroon Canada Central African Republic Chad Comoros Democratic Republic of Congo Djibouti France Gabon Guinea Haiti Ivory Coast Luxembourg Madagascar Mali Monaco Niger Republic of Congo Rwanda Senegal Seychelles Switzerland Togo Vanuatu - Other member states of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF): Bulgaria Cambodia Cape Verde Dominica Egypt Equitorial Guinea Guinea-Bissau Laos Lebanon Morocco Mauritania Mauritius Moldova Romania Saint-Lucia Sao-Tomé et Principe Tunisia Vietnam (Mauritius is only in the 2nd list because English is the official language, but more people speak French there than English...there may be other countries on that second list where French is predominant despite not being the official language) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

uh oh, the conspiracy got me. I made a post that disappeared... so here it is again... re Dan Cooper comics. Once you start looking there are many many places that Americans could have come into contact with them via French speakers. Like this bit from Snow's Project Delta link: Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Yes, people jump with goggles over their glasses. I should add one of the oldtimers (can't remember who it was) posted here though that skydiving goggles were not widely available at the time - people used other types and I am not sure how useful those would have been as over-glasses goggles. If you wear contact lenses, and I would imagine this was exacerbated with hard ones, the chances of losing one or both lenses without goggles is high. (People have managed to not lose them, but if you as Cooper wore contacts you surely wouldn't want to take the chance.) Anyhow Cooper could easily have had a pair of goggles somewhere, in an inside suit pocket or in his mysterious paper bag. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
Well, unless he was wearing contact lenses. Although the use was not nearly as widespread as it is now, my mom for example was wearing (hard) contact lenses in 1971. Of course in those days it was a lot more hassle than these days of soft disposables, so before anyone jumps in to theorize I would say it would have been highly unlikely Cooper would have got contacts just for the jump if he wore glasses normally, partly because hard lenses need a period of adaptation before they are comfortable. The stewardess who saw him without sunglasses would surely have noticed if his eyes seemed red and uncomfortable. fyi soft contacts were only made commercially available for the first time in 1971, so IF Cooper wore contacts it is most likely he wore hard ones. Hmmm... I wonder if the stews would have noticed if he had? I haven't seen anyone wear hard lenses for a long time but I seem to recall that they are visible up close. The only time that was mentioned was in Tosaws Book - That's not true, it was mentioned in the newspaper report to whcih Snow posted the link the other day (the same one that talks about the CIA planes). I need to check, but IIRC the newspaper article said they were told that bit by Himmelsbach Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Actually, I saw this (in an exercise) not very long ago - went to a local airshow where our airforce did a display of a combat mission, from dropping the pathfinders, to dropping other weapons, people, support etc to extracting people at the end of it (as you showed there). Was fascinating to see, as well as all the different types of aircraft (planes and helis) involved. The past couple of years btw our air force has made a C-130 available for jumping at our big end of year boogie here; i missed it last year and i have missed it this year, but i WILL jump that thing at some stage
