Thanks a bunch! Sounds like a great place to start. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

I did my first blocks this weekend. I didn't know that's what they were called until we landed and I asked one of the guys to tell me what I should write in my log book. I felt like an idiot. Pete Allum will be at our DZ on Thursday and Friday. He is coaching all skill levels - thank goodness because I'm on the bottom rung of the skill level ladder. I'm excited about this opportunity, but I was wondering if there was a list of blocks for beginners that I should study. Any suggestions? Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

It sounds like a fun time. I can't imagine having the time to practice with a real team, but maybe some day I'll have an opportunity to be part of a pickup team. Thanks for sharing your story with us! Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

Going from a 230 to a Triathalon 190
jumpjunkie2004 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks for asking. Well... My decision to jump the 190 became a decision between jumping the 190 or not jumping. The DZ I went to did not have any rental gear for me I was looking for a 230 or a 210. They had one 240 that was being rented by a student. So, I talked to the instructors there and decided to go ahead and jump the 190 which belongs to a friend of mine. Unfortunately, there was very little wind. I only got to jump twice. I flared a little high on one of my jumps because one of the old timers told me that I needed to do that with the Triathalon. I discovered that I really should have just flared when I normally flare. I got my feet on the ground both times, but I ended up doing a butt slide both times. Everyone else was running out the landings. Now the tough decision, do I go back to renting a 230 or ask them if I can rent a 210. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -
Congratulations Jennifer! You are so brave! Glad to hear that everything went well for you. Sorry to hear that someone got hurt - that's a bummer. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

Sounds like you might be a future bridge day candidate! I don't think I'd enjoy that sensation. Helicopters are not in my near future. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -

Thanks Billy. I can always do a PLF if I have to. I'm going to check the weather and if we have some wind - I'm going to give it a try. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -
Going from a 230 to a Triathalon 190
jumpjunkie2004 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I hope someone is around this morning... Yesterday, I went to my DZ and spent 4 hours waiting for rental gear. I finally gave up and left. I've got 14 jumps on an assortment of 230's - Sabre 2, Sihlouette, and Spectre. Since I don't know what I will encounter today, a friend offered to let me borrow her Triathalon 190 - it would put my wingloading right at 1:1. At my DZ, they recommend downsizing slowly. I completely understand exercising caution and I'm in no hurry to downsize. However, my friend keeps assuring me that her 190 is more like a 210 because the Triathalon is such a puffy canopy. If anyone is around this morning and can respond before 10:30 am, please advise regarding your thoughts. My other option would be to go to the dz and rent a 260. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -

Nice plane Kallend - is it yours Are you a pilot? Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -
I'd get the B! Although, I have heard that you don't have to have it to do night jumps - you just have to be" B license qualified". My impression of being "B license qualified" is that you meet all the criteria for a B license, but you haven't paid for the number. When I get there, I'll be getting mine. Since I have a limited amount of jumping time, it's going to take me forever to get from 50 to 200. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

Never been on a Casa. Can't wait to try one. Our DZ has an Otter and a Cessna. I've never been on the Cessna - just by some random luck. I'm sure I'll be on it this winter - out of desperation. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -

My favorite - the Skyvan - jumping out backwards is so funl! Least favorite to date - the Pilatus (sp?) Porter - the door is on the wrong side! Holding on to the plane with my left hand was extremely awkward. What planes do they use at your DZ? Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -
Updating Jump Numbers
jumpjunkie2004 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It never occurred to me to overstate my number of jumps. If anyone could use some inflation, I sure could. Seriously though, it never occurred to me that people would do that. Now, I'm going to be curious which profiles are bogus and which are real... 800 jumps Heather...hmmm...do you really have that many? Just kidding Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -

Wow. That's a serious injury and just last month. Bummer. When I was a student (Jump #7), I flared too early - at about 25 feet. I did a PLF - broke one ankle and sprained the other. I was extremely lucky. I didn't require hardware. Hope you are healing quickly! Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -

I never thought if it that way. Since I tend to jump at an assortment of places, the "bad spot" issue should definitely factor in for me. Fortunately, I had excellent spotting instruction at Orange - thank goodness. I noticed that most of the reserves are smaller than the mains I'm jumping. It seems like a 218 reserve is a very popular size for a 230 main. I'm sure they handle differently. This is great advice too! Thanks! Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -
