    this is a percussion gun. this gun has been sitting in a very dust void under the stairs for about 15 years. how do i tell if there's corrosion inside the barrel? there's minimal rust on the outside, but i'm doubt it has been cleaned since last time it was shot. also, about how many times can i shoot it at the range before i have to break it all down and do the deep cleaning?     my dad just gave me a 54 cal muzzleloader. now what? what's the best way to clean it? how much and what kind of powder do i use? i used this gun as a kid (the brass butt fucking killed my scrawny shoulder), but niether my dad nor I remember how much powder to use and i'm sure things have change with black powder since then, so i don't even know what to get.     before you go hunting, do a 5-10 miles hike in you boots and see how your feet feel. i'm not familiar with the brand of workboots you have, but my feet would be pissed if i tried to hunt in my work boots. also make sure they are waterproof. the boots i had last year weren't waterproof and it made me miserable during elk season. and don't forget to keep the wind at your back and the sun in your face.     my pregnant wife and my two awesome boys my wife's boards on december 3rd, it will be such a relief when that's over even though we don't have family here, i'm thankful that we have close enough friends that we want to spend thanksgiving together. we have friends in iraq right now. i'm thankful there are people who volunteer for that job my life in general is pretty damn good "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com

    don't bother with the dressing kit. you can do everything you need to do with a hunting knife. don't bother with a side arm, you already have a gun so its just extra weight. don't take a blanket either, unless its one one those silver emergecy blankets. you're going to be walking throught the woods all day carrying all that stuff and then you have to drag a deer out on top of it all. think hard about what you really need, stuff can get heavy.     the proliferation of wolves have made hunting elk even harder. they have become even more elusive and nocturnal. many hunters think that wolves are hurting the elk population, but biologists say that the herds are getting stronger and the genetics are getting better. i tend to believe the latter.     hunting on private property that isn't fenced is still fair chase. there are a few guided hunts i would like to go on. i want to do a hunt in the frank church wilderness here in idaho where you ride horses for a day to get where you're going. spending 6 days way out in the wilderness with someone else doing the cooking sounds like fun. i also want to hunt a grizzly and moose in alaska. if i'm not living there, i would hire a guide.     i don't like the internet hunting. at least with a canned hunt you are in the wood listening to the birds and breathing the fresh air. you personally witness what you've done. i wish there wasn't internet hunting, but like canned hunts, the animals belong to the owners and they can do what they wish. i grew up still hunting and that's how i hunt deer and elk, but his year i took a bear over bait and for the last couple of years i've been pheasant hunting with a dog. i have a golden retriever puppy that i'm trying to train to hunt grouse, but he came from pet stock and not hunting stock so i don't know how he'll turn out. i took him hunting with me once, but he stayed at my heal the whole time. even if he doesn't hunt, he's a great companion.     i wondering what the opinion is among hunters of canned hunts. for those that don't know what that is, its where someone has a ranch that is fenced in and has domestic game animals such as deer or elk. they charge lots of money for people to come to their ranch and "hunt". i don't have a problem with them, but wouldn't pay for one. if i was offered to hunt for free, i would take it, the meat would still be tasty. many hunters here in idaho are against them because it isn't fair chase and it isn't sporting. to me, these animals are livestock. you can't capture wild animals, breed them, and pen them in. you have to get domestic animals. you also can't set these animals free into the wild. this is no different from a cattle farmer charging someone to come into their field and shoot a cow. the cow is his property and he can do with it what he wishes.     cherry picking, while wrong, isn't lying. bush and cheney aren't the only ones with access to intelligence. congress also has access to the intelligence and has the responsibility to check it for themselves. if there's evidence that bush and cheney sat in some back room and manipulated the national intelligence estimate so that congress only got info that supported war, you'll be able to sway my opinion. its more likely that our fine senators and representatives didn't even read it. remember that at the time we entered this war, the country was very supportive of it.     the white house did not make up the intelligence, which we know now to be faulty. if they did, myself, along with likely 95% of americans would like to see the administration in prison for life, but as i've said, there's ZERO evidence to support that. you are so blinded by your white-hot hatred toward this administration that you are letting your emotions get in the way of logic and reason.     i think only doctors and doctors' spouses truly appreciate just how much work goes into boards. i am in awe of meg every day for her dedication. i takes a special person to do all of that. i know i couldn't do it please call me before you call and ask to get back in. for some reason the air force is unable to retain doctor beyond their initial obligation. this means that most of the people in your chain of command will be nurses. nurses are wonderful people, until they get put in charge of doctors. as a major, meg is at the bottom of her chain of command. she has no authority over nurses or techs. she has no control over anything and is treated like a third grader. right now, its all about her. i'm keeping the kids busy when she's home so she can study and i bought her a day at the spa that she can use after her boards are over. 16 days to go.
