This is what the cyber war looks like and it's amazing.

i assume it relies on java since i cannot see it. i would love to, but i refuse to allow that on my machine. i may try it on a vm later. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes -
after we built an addition to a toyota plant, they poured the floors and brought several riding concrete finishers in. they were way cool. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

you can use paint to select a rectangle over the part to be painted and fill it in with color. it is actually pretty easy. i would leave them as they are, however. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

not really. i try not to take any personality tests seriously. some are pretty good, like the meyers briggs assessment. i did notice the questions being a little leading, but i missed the guns not being in there. i still stand by my statement, we need to take care of each other. it should not be made mandatory, and a lot of wealthy people already do. i think the corporations could do better, though. and i think that there should be a ratio of top paid to bottom paid people at a company, something like 30-40 times at the most. now, it can go as high as 500-600 times. that would be much better than a minimum wage. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

i mistakenly said flat tax when i had intended to say graduated, i even used that term later. and when i say that it needs scrapped, i means the tax code, not the system, per se. if all income were reported, then taxed accordingly, you wouldn't have to make it so high, and it would be more fair. i heard a lot of complaints about the fact i used the wrong term, but i didn't hear any comments referring to flat taxes being bad. i used to advocat that idea, and to some extent, i still do. i stand by my ideas that all society should be more socialistic, simply because it works better. i think that we could put the states rights back to the forefront of the governing of the country where they belong. that would leave the necessarily leaner federal government to interact with the rest of the world, much as the eu does, as opposed to the un; that puts us on more level playing field. if we could actually get an agreement like that in effect, think of the ramifications. we could use nothing but solar power to supply the world power, there is always 12 hours of sunlight around the planet, no batteries needed, just a huge grid. and with all of the other options as well, it would allow us to provide free power to everyone. that, in turn, allows the poorer population to have a little increase in their disposable income. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

i just took that political compass test again, and it says i am a socialist, and at first, i was thinking no way. but upon reflection, it makes sense to me that our society should have socialistic tendencies. not in the way that communism dictates that everyone should have the same things and that the state should control everything. but if one studies the formation of modern society, it makes sense. no longer can we just go out into the wilderness (or anywhere else) and just exist. we have created a society where everyone is interdependant on everyone else. sure, some individuals could, and do, just go certain places and exist. but not the masses, it is an option open only to the privileged. most urban dwellers will never have that option. as we are all interdependant, it logically follows that there should be certain provisions made to help each other out in time of need. most, if not all, of my friends and a lot of people i know have taken assistance from welfare, myself included. i see nothing wrong with giving a helping hand to those in need. i do not think it should be the only source of income, nor should it be forever. this could be easily accomplished by simply equalizing the tax structure. the first thing would be to deny any tax breaks to any company which sells things in the us. the second thing could be to scrap the current income tax system and institute a flat tax. it could be graduated in order to be fair, something like 5% for under the poverty level, graduated up to 50% on income greater than a million dollars a year. i have no problems with letting people earn whatever they can, but i do have a problem with people who take money for just moving other people's money around. the only thing they add to society is additional earnings for the wealthy. those drains on society should pay a penalty, not be rewarded. it needs some work, and it will never come to pass because it involves reducing the income of the wealthy, and only the wealthy have a say in any kind of regulation. i have been looking into some of the policies of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and while some of the thnigs which were done were atrocious, some of them were actually far-sighted. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

you are in the right here, don't push it. do not dorp it now, make damn sure you write the letter, and have someone, or three, look it over for you. spell check is NOT your friend, too many cases of the wrong word used but spelled correctly. best way to check the letter is read it out loud to yourself. things that are wrong sound wrong, you may miss them while reading them silently. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

during that time, they actually took recruits into the 18x program straight off the streets. i didn't have any dealings with it personally, but was in the sf community at the time, and i recall being told about it. they did like a fast track, i believe. it was more intense than regular training, and did have a higher dropout rate. i had a choice when my unit activated to go to selection and into the pipeline, or go to war with my unit as the pac nco. i chose pac nco, then later injured myself training for selection, thus ruining my chances to get a tab. this is all hearsay i got years ago, not definitive, others may know more. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes -
they are, aren't they? it's like they actually believe the crap coming off the keyboards. like they think it would be any different if the other side would be in charge. the only difference would be the people making the choices, and the ones complaining. until EVERYONE in this country sees that and decides to make some radical changes (like accountability), we are all doomed. the only choice is who drives the bus to the crash. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

correct about the body language, he is obviously very intelligent. and he didn't wash out of army basic training, he washed out of special forces training (probably selection). big difference there. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes -

just a couple of points here. 1st, he's not a narcissist. 2d, he's not lying in the interview most of the time, there are a couple of times he is dodging and hiding things, but the important parts are true. and he did send emails to try to report things that should not have happened, there is a paper trail. 3d, he didn't put anyone at risk. none of the information published has done any harm to any ongoing investigations or confidential informants. i hope that i would have had the same level of integrity had i been in his shoes. he is a true hero in every sense of the word. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes -

i don't recall naybody blaming anybody, except that it is "all our fault", we are all humans and are who is causing the mess. it really does not matter one bit how bad it is and how bad it's going to get, the fact is that it is not good and it needs to be stopped. there is no sense in putting a time limit on it, that will just encourage us to wait until the time is almost up. we need to rethink the way things are done and just come up with a plan. what happened to the mindset that allowed our industry to be turned into the greatest war machine ever during ww2? i don't recall hearing about the government "asking" manufacturers to produce military items, but i could be wrong. and they were not doing it for free, either. if it could be done then to fight a war, it could be done now to save the planet. it just takes someone with enough balls to do it. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

well, whether you like it or not, whether you believe this theory or that one, the damage is being done. is it irrepairable? no. can it be safely ignored? no. something has to be done. i am doing something. i am coming up with ideas and trying them out. i am using all of you as a sounding board to see what is viable and what needs to be scrapped. i need to do a little more work to this one. i think it is viable, maybe not as is, but with a few enhancements. i have a new one also, i would just append it to this one, but i want to be able to keep track. thanx for all the input, it helped work out several bugs. if i get any further in the next few weeks, i may post it back here. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

couple of things: first, i don't care about the weight of co2 in the atmosphere, i'm not an engineer. second, i wasn't talking about transmission of power being dc, i was talking about the use. almost all of the electronices in the household uses dc, it just gets converted to dc before use. this will save a bunch of power or cost by not having to convert it to ac, then back to dc. i don't know the fiugres for conversion loss, but it can't be 0. if any country in the world can convert to all renewable energy, then why can't we? i have heard (even checked this one out) that iceland gets 100% from renewables, and that germany gets 74% from them. if it is possible for them, it's possible for us. i don't recall any more wind or sunlight in germany than in the us, at least when i was there, it may have changed in 25 years. and all of this attitude saying that it can't be done is a self fulfilling prophecy. with a little thought and cooperation, anything is possible. with a negative attitude, we are all doomed. as far as being a specious idea (thanx for the enlargement of my vocabulary), that is the purpose of this discussion, which by the way is progressing nicely. would you spend a lot of time looking at costs, determining the best system, and drawing up plans before finding out if it was a viable idea? if i had more time or was actually being paid to do this, then i would do all of that. this is merely my attempt at solving a problem. i have seen so many people complaining and calling each other out with nothing more than that in mind. i love to complain, but i will come up with alternatives. it works with politicians also. by allowing them an escape route, you can actually get things done. complaints without solutions are a waste of time. and i reiterate, if iceland and germany can do it, why not us? it is because as a nation, we are not willing to do what it takes (i was a little unclear about it, thanx billvon for taking action). and as far as what the people wanting not mattering, you have to realize there is a point where one person's inaction affects others. and being too late, well none of us really know that, do we? i would rather assume the worst and be surprised than the opposite. we have two choices: 100% renewable enregy or destruction of the planet. i kind of like it here, i am willing to come up with ideas to save the planet. thanx to all of you for helping out. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

thanx. i have been trying to get people thinking like this for months now. i have an army buddy who i recently talked to, haven't heard from him in years until facebook recently. he's a tea bagger, i guess you could call me a libertarian, hard to classsify but definitely not a tea bagger. we agreed on almost everything we talked about regarding politics and policies. i can talk to almost anyone and get them to agree on what i try to say, because most of it is common sense, and it all comes down to a couple of things. like, don't mess with it if it's not yours, don't do it if it interferes with others, if it doesn't then leave them alone, we all have the same rights, etc. sometimes i do get a little carried away with it though. and it is really all of our fault for letting it get so bad. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes -
i don't figure at all yet, it is an idea. i don't know how much any of this costs. the whole problem is that nobody wants to do what it takes. we are at the point where what people want is no longer relevant. steps need to be taken now, and it may already be too late to get very far. i am talking about replacing not only a whole way of thinking, but a way of life. the obstacles are enormous, the benefits substantial. in wv, coal employs about 15-20% of the population, directly and indirectly. if i can come up with a plan which not only eliminates the need for coal power plants, but at the same time, brings in a replacement industry as well as a job surplus, then the additional cost will be offset by the added prosperity. this reminds me of one of my first debates on dz, back when i said that industry needed to convert from ac to dc to make solar cheaper and more useable. i think it was you, may not have been, said that they would never agree on a standard. well, they don't have to agree, it can be mandated. htere is precedent there, automotive standards, eletrical code standards, phone standards, radio standards, etc. have all been handed down from somewhere. it can be done, and it must be. we just need to get people working on the details and making sure they work for the majority, not all of us. if we wait for all of us, nothing would ever get done. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

next is right. if yolu honestly believe this crap, then you are the problem, not part of it, but all of it. i will go a little further: anyone who still talks and thinks in terms of republicans and democrats, left or right, are the problem there is no left or right, there are just different branches of the same tree. there were no siginificant changes from now and when the republicans were in the majority, or the presidency. the only things that change is the people complaining the loudest and about what. why don't you try coming up with something that can actually have a positive effect on the world, country, or state? put about half as much energy into this as you do in finding this crap and soon you will have some viable ideas which will work. not until we take the lobbyists out of politics will things get any better. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes -
not only that, the actual process of removing the coal is terrible for the einvironment around it. the levels of selenium and other chemicals i forgot leaching into the groundwater have made most of the watersheds around here poisonous. hence the fact that 300,000 people in 9 counties got there water from one intake. i don't really think it would be a bad idea for individuals to be able to have their own windmills, along with solar, which would be the est option, but also the most taxing on the individuals. the communities could shoulder all the costs with the help of government grants and loans. the initial price of electircity could be slightly increased until they are paid off, then they would bottom out to almost nothing. storage would be a problem, but the wind never stops blowiing across some of those mountains. and another spot ripe for solar arrays is the souther side of all the hills under the transmission lines. all of that area they keep cleared anyway, and there would be no effort at all to tie it into the lines right overhead. as far as politics go, that is the main obstacle i can see coming up. i have been talking to people here and thre to guage the reactions to this idea, and most have been warm to it. this is where i am trying to get an end run around the industry folks. i plan on introducing legislation creating a huge database of the will of the people where everyone has a voice. it would be accessible to all, and anonymous, and contain all the major issues which are around. since it would be available to all to see, it would be easy to match a politicians votes to the will of his constituents, if they don't match, he's out. i have one guy who likes it and is helping refine it for the next session, one of the good politicians i have met. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

i had a thought recently and want to gather opinions on it. it is a way to free ourselves from coal. if the seperate municipalitites were to erect renewable energy sources in their own areas, they could effectively supply their own electricity. the only thing it would take, at least in wv, is a loan for the initial establishment. example, in southern wv, there are mountains everywhere. windmills could be placed on top of them, without flatteneing or much modification. the existing transmission lines could be used, and it would create jobs in the construction and maintenance. they could also be mingled with other sources, like solar, in some areas, but wind would be best for that area. once the initail investment is repaid, the only cost for the electricity would be the cost of maintenance, then it gets really cheap. if every area of the nation took the same initiative, then before too long, there would be no need for power plants. they would have the time of the transition, these things don't get built overnight, to invest heavily in the renewables and even the infrastructure. thoughts? when i ran it by some people in logan today, they came up with the idea it is dangerous for birds. my answer, so what? we're not birds, we're people. and it actually doesn't affect them too much, a very small percentage get hurt. and they will learn to adapt, fly a little higher or lower in some places,. avoid others. and some have said that the industries will lobby for and get injunctions or regulations against it. well, we will just have to circumvent that. i'm trying to work out the bugs in my idea before taking it too far. anything else? _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

don, if your grandson is autistic, then i would most definitely put some hearing protection on him and take him to the range so he can stand there while you pop off a few rounds. by number two, he will not touch it ever again. this is the safest thing you can do if you do have a gun which is not locked up in the house, but in your situation, i would not recommend that ever, just in case. this is also the finest exapmle of why this kind of legislatin is bad as well. there are no such things as a 'one size fits all' answer to any problem. we need to be able to adapt things to changing circumstances sometimes. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
