Jump # 92, flying back from a weekend visit to a neighbouring dz. Myself & another newb (+-150 jumps) were planning on doing beer jumps (high h&p) once we got back to our dz. Skygod was sitting in the dogbox, having a beer in the plane as his rig wasn't packed. Halway back the pilot said he couldn't climb due to an ATC hold, would we H&P at 2000'? Maybe Skygod's judgement was impaired, but seeing that we were cocksure & wanting to jump, he gave the OK. 2000', what could be so hard?? We ended up running in at 1800' and on climbout, there was no throttle back. I got onto the step, basically planning on doing more of a pop'n hop than h&p and the next thing I knew I was blown onto my back. 2 backflips later & a very short canopy ride (main) to the ground, I was shaking so much i couldn't open the beer I still had tucked into my jumpsuit. Didn't really come close to death, but it sure was a TIWGTD moment! A VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! D.S # 125

Keith, This sentence stood out for me. I just want to add that just because someone does not have a red star next to their name does not mean they do not contribute financially. I make personal donations to HH and they're as much as a premier membership costs. I just like the freedom to make those donations at my will. A forum is about a community. I have started a forum on my website for people interested in wine & SA's winelands. Nothing much happening there yet, but I don't plan on making ANY income from the forum. ... I like this answer. And in the technical forums, sure they still have a place. Take Billvon or Quade for example, if they stopped jumping it doesn't mean the knowledge they have gained stops too. Ditto -
My sentiments exactly! I took a break 2001-2004, did a bunch of 'dives in 2 months & didn't jump again 'til November 2007. My dz buddies still remain part of my extended family. They may have spread around a bit, but that means I feel som much more welcome at several dz'sin my province and also in at least 4 other countries! Jumping or not jumping is not always in our control, but that doesn't mean our passion diminishes. Cést la... A VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! D.S # 125
