  3. I did a similar transfer a few months ago (landed Gatwick & had to get to Heathrow) Directions from Heathrow to Gatwick: Baggage & customs takes +-45 minutes. Haul ass to the Underground, catch the Picadilly line (blue) to Acton Town, transfer to the District line (green) to Victoria, catch the Gatwick Express (trains leave every 15 minutes, trip takes 30 minutes) Total time should be about 2 hours 30 minutes... Wedding bells

    What a lovely couple!! Congrats
  5. I'm not planning on trying it anytime soon. I can understand the use in having a tandem instructor experiencing it during training, just as we try to expose them to other negative scenarios they might encounter in their tandem career. The reason for my question was to determine the legality of Marco Tiezzi doing drogueless atmonauti tandems... They're even advertised on www.atmonauti.com @ Euro 160 a pop. 6. Guess, you're right. Maybe that's where the rest of the discussion started - semantics. Aerodynamics vs airfoil, etc. The real question is whether LIFT is actually generated. Wikipedia - Lift Force: "In any case causing lift; an angled flat plate, revolving cylinder, airfoil, etc... Flow meeting the leading edge of the object is forced to split, over and under the object. The sudden change in direction over the object, causes an area of low pressure to form behind the leading edge on the upper surface of the object. In turn, due to this pressure gradient and the viscosity of the fluid, the flow over the object is accelerated down along the upper surface of the object. At the same time the flow forced under the object is rapidly slowed or stagnated, causing an area of high pressure. This also causes the flow to accelerate along the upper surface of the object. The two sections of the fluid each leave the trailing edge of the object with a downward component of momentum, producing lift." As stated previously - I've got no problem with atmonauti, I would just like to see it developed & explained properly. It's obvious from this thread that there are a few of us cynics out there & we'd appreciate some proof. Not the same argument / statement over & over again, not photo's, not figures, PROOF. Atmonauti in a windtunnel with smoke, showing that lift is actually generated, as has been shown with wingsuits. Being able to stay airborn in a windtunnel at substantially lower windspeeds than needed for RW/freeflying. Something like that might be convincing The question remains if it is to be considered as a seperate dicipline currently & if it warrants it's own subforum.
  7. I'm curious about the regulations for tandem skydiving. In THIS thread in Suggestions & Feedback, the following statement is made numerous times: " if lift do not exist in atmo , in which way is possible that the vertical speed when I do the atmo-tandem with out drogue , is around 180 km/h ( 110 miles/h ) ? …." I've gone on a few drogueless tandems as a passenger for trainee tandem instructors. What's the general rules when going drogueless with a 'non-skydiver' passenger, for something other than training purposes? How do the manufacturers of tandem equipment feel about this practice? 8. This thread started as a SUGGESTION more than a month ago: "May i suggest, as more and more skydivers are affiliating to the discipline of ATMONAUTI angled social flight (sky flying at its best!), that a sub-heading is created under Skydiving Disciplines, ..." A brief look (only the first 7 pages) at the Suggestions & Feedback forum shows this to be the one with the most replies to a thread here... Unfortunately the amount of post aren't by users clamouring for another subforum, but it's become a discussion fueled by a few obstinate few. Remember when freeflying was 'freak flying'? Once it caught on & techniques were standardised, it became a discipline. IMO there's still a lot of work to be done on atmonauti before it's going to be an official discipline. Rather than trying to persuade us by posting the same, unsubstantiated, arguments over & over again, keep working at the technique, gain followers & then try again. BTW - I have a radio control 'postcard'. It's a flat piece of corex with a tailfin / rudder glued on at the back. Sure it flies, but not because of any aerodynamic principle. It's deflecting air & flying AGaINST it, not THROUGH it. Maybe atmo is the new big thing, but you're not going to be able to force it down our throats - 'A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down'
  9. Uhm...OK, so when last you saw it it was hanging out with your mind... Did you lose your mind too, or is it back & claiming innocence regarding this whole unsavoury matter? I know! Get your hands on that Dodge you posted about - guaranteed smiley face
  10. Are we who we remember ourselves to be when we wake up? You'll only ever know anyone to the extent they want you to know them, IMO. 16. The official speed limit on SA freeways is 75mph (120km/h), but most people are usually cruising at between 87 & 100mph (those that know where the cameras are, that is ). Can't say that cars here don't last as long as anywhere else. I've been driving a variety of vehicles (Ford & Land Rover) with 4L (244ci) + capacity engines for about 8 years now. I know that's small compared to most US trucks, but it's considered big in SA.. Fuel consumption is pretty much the same @ speeds of 75 up to 90, and only drops noticeably after 120. I drive at least 50 000 miles per year & besides regular services have had no problems associated with gearboxes or engines. Yes, I agree with the issue regarding tyres - they must be rated for high speed if you're going to do it regularly or for extended periods. Edited to add: had 3 Fords 'til now, currently on the LR Discovery - BIG MISTAKE!!! Great 4X4 but a real pain in the butt with it's finnicky electronics! That's got nothing to do with 'aggressive' driving though... A VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! D.S # 125
  17. Sad news. Wonder what's going to happen to the coachworks now? Does this mean Chip Foose doesn't have any decent competition anymore? A VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! D.S # 125

    Ehehehe!

Go SA! At least there won't anymore complaints about the Dollar/Pound exchange rate & maybe we SA'ns won't have to beg for visas when we want to visit the 'states A VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! D.S # 125

  21. First time I heard about Six Sigma was when I read "Jack - autobiography of John F Welch". The bio makes a very nice read & opens your eyes to various interesting management ideas besides just the quality aspect. I've seen many of these management principles & now Six Sigma implemented at one of my ex-employers (whre I'm still very informally involved) & think it's great. Once again - "Jack" & then "Winning" of John F Welch - puts it all into perspective A VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! D.S # 125
  22. A German guest at a friend's guesthouse got very upset at the breakfast table a few weeks ago - they had 'Black Cat' peanut butter on the table... Turns out he'd been in China before coming to SA & had a dubious culinary experience there A VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! D.S # 125
