What is the Best Quality camcorder and camara SLR?
skydiver51 replied to paracapanas's topic in Photography and Video
Yep Sony is the best. I have already gone thru a JVC mini. It laste almost 2 yrs. Had my Sony PC 101 for a year and not one problem. The JVC had started acting up in a little over 6 months after putting it in the air. -
African American SkyDiver! What?
skydiver51 replied to TXBLKBEAR's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Here in the south (Oklahoma) you tend to come in contact with quite a few Bigots. But I haven't heard the N word around our DZ. I would definitely would put those saying that word in their place. I work as a civilian at an air force base and two of the six supervisors I've had were black and the best supervisors out of the six (the other four were white). I distance myself from stupid people who are racist. -
Yeah I'm gonna give him a call. He really didn't sound interested when we were talking about several weeks ago. Can't wait to get in the air with it. I finally own my own PC!!

Head positioning on deployment
skydiver51 replied to AlvaroCarvalho's topic in Photography and Video
On opening I keep looking at the ground. I have had one hell of a slammer that put me in the hospital with a brusied lung and other injeries. By looking I keep my chin close to my chest for less travel of the head if a hard opening happens again. The camopy I use is the Icarus Omega. I jump a 190 wing loaded 1.2:1. No matter how I pack it it has never opened hard. I don't roll the nose, just let it hang. I pull the center of the slider up to the gromets to help cut down the snivels to 500 ft. I roll the tail about 5 or 6 times. I will buy another Omega when I get the cash. Oh, by the way, the canopy that slammed me was a Sabre 150 that belonged to a friend. I don't blame the canopy since that's the first one I have ever jumped one. Just my two cents worth that works for me. -
Thanks for the info. I know pete but didn't think he was a rigger.

Had to remove some material because of damage. That left a hole about 3"x5". Bigger than our rigger wants to try to repair.

Maybe the swim suit?

Try getting her to do an obersavition ride and watch other jumpers or yourself exit. If that won't work take her to the DZ just to watch others jump and let her talk to them and see just how happy they are after they land.

I'm the videographer at Skydive Tulsa and as everyone has already said either DZ will get you in the air with SOME of the friendliest skydivers in Oklahoma. (Kris notice I put some in caps? all are not located in the northeastern part of the state ) We would prefer you came to Skydive Tulsa but where you go is your choice and I have good friends at Airtight. Skydive Tulsas number 918-266-3332.

African American SkyDiver! What?
skydiver51 replied to TXBLKBEAR's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I used the term black because all the people I know here in Oklahoma who are african american wish to be addressed that way. I have never been racist and have nothing against other nationalities. If my post sounds racist I apologize to everyone it offended. It wasn't intended that way. -

Most interesting out landing?
skydiver51 replied to Hazarrd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Myself and another videographer were practicing flying on a non-video tandem jump. When we opened (about 4k) we noticed we were not getting back. Right below us was a field with a herd of cows and just past it was a sod farm. We REALLY wanted to make the sod farm but that wasn't going to happen. My friend was about 500-1000 ft lower so he landed first. WELL when the cows saw him touch down they headed for the far side of the field like a bat outa hell. I thought cool no obstacles. But just about 100 ft off the ground, as the cows got to the fence at the far side, they made a hard U turn and headed back across the field. Just as I was touching down they passed between my friend and myself. With only about 50 yrds between us them cows looked like busses moving at highway speeds. I can honestly say that scared me more than anything else so far in my 650+ jumps. -

We have had a couple of black people do tandems at our DZ. No licensed jumps have come thru tho. Here's a pic captured from a tandem video I did about a month ago. His name is Brian. By all indications he loved it. -
Any know a rigger who has experience repairing paracomanders? Have them email skydiver51@cox.net.

I didn't mean that women joined JUST for the education. I know people join to serve their country also. Now days it seems more join for the education.I spent 4 yrs. in the Marines and 1 in veit nam so I know people join to serve their country. My main point is why have kids while in the service if you may have to go to war?
-
Just a question looking for an answer. Why do women join the military, knowing the want to have children and knowing they could be sent to war? I know the military is a good place to get higher education. So why don't these couples wait til they get out to start a family?

Oh-oh, sorry to hear about your car Kris....see, you should have spent the night and just got up early to head home..... Jack---glad you and Lynn were both okay, but sorry about the little car. x's and o's, Robin -
I tried numerous times letting them know what I wanted the music for ( short clips of a song for aff and tandems ) and didn't receive a response. So I continue on. If anyone has a definite address to write to I will try again to see what they say.
-
I'm like you, I like it because of the happy smiles I see on tandems and level I AFF's faces as the view raw video of their jumps. I like doing experienced jumpers also but it's mainly first timers that keep me flying camera.

My complaint is if the DZO (who is also the tandem instructor) gets 150.00 for the tandem jump why take more than the cost of the slot from the camera man? Our DZO gets 200.00 for a tandem and video and he pays the cameraman 20.00. If he gets his money from the 150.00 for adver. then why cut the cameramans pay? Shouldn't the cameraman get the whole 50.00 and then pay for his slot then keep the rest?
