Hard openings and your neck !!!!!

I failed to include in my origanal post that I jump an Omega 190 and no matter how I pack it it doesn't open hard. The accident happened on a Sabre 170 that belonged to a friend that loaned it to me to video back to back videos. But the damage already being done even my easy opening Omega might shake me around enough to be too much. I'm going to give it a try any way. -
Hard openings and your neck !!!!!

I just got back from the Neuro Surgeon. He told me my jumping days were over. I experienced a super hard opening May 31 last year that broke a steering line. I was in the hospital for 4 days for major soft tissue damage and a brusied lung. The right side of my neck has been hurting me really bad since the accident and I been thru PT and a cortizone injection but nothing has helped. Finally my Orthopedic DR. sent me to this Neuro Surgeon and he told me I had five bad disc that will have to come out if I keep jumping. Part of the reason the disc are bad is i'm 52 yrs old, the other part is from jumping ( the accident caused 4 to start bulgeing). So Older jumpers keep this in mind if your canopy regularly opens hard and younger jumpers might think of looking for a new canopy when you get to around 40. I don't think I will completely quit jumping but I think my camera flying days are over. -
Camera suit's........what's good, what's crap
skydiver51 replied to mwabd1's topic in Photography and Video
I jump Body Sport's camera suit with max wings since I weigh in at around 210. I video tandems and affs. My first suit lasted around 5 years until it was cut off for medical treatment after a hard opening. Wasn't anything wrong with it and only showing wear at the knees. Had cordura knee coverings on the new one. -
Fly around on Flight Simulator.

Wish I had a web site I could put the video I shot front floating the wing strut of a c182. Shows a static line jump from a whole different angle.

I to use studio 8 for my freefall videos. I finished a wedding video for my step-son about a month ago that turned out real good. I used the video track lock and inserted some stills of when they were younger and let the audio play in the back ground. It's good software that doesn't take very long to learn.

USAFA grounds aircraft over safety concerns -- Press Clips

Huh, to bad I wasn't at work Jan. 2. Would liked to see what their plane looked like. -
I had a hard opening that brusied a lung and did quite a bit of soft tissue damage in my neck that still bothers me 7 months later. But it would take a Doctor saying my next jump could make me an invalid for the rest of my life if I didn't stop, to keep me out of the sky. I jump as much as my neck can tolerate and deal with it. I know the risk and I accept it. Without skydiving my wife would have to put me in a rocking chair on the back porch so I could watch the grass grow. There wouldn't be much to life without it.

Malfunction Cutaway...packed your own?
skydiver51 replied to Michele's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There isn't a place for mine. I had back-to-back videos and couldn't get packed in time so a friend offered his rig that he packed. What a friend huh? -

First I would like to thank WMW999 for the link to snopes.com. I, like many others, have gotten really pissed when reading when I read the Target and veterans news letter being sent around the web. If you receive an e-mail with a letter attachement that's hard to believe then go to snopes.com and check. It's probably false like the Government pension thread on here. (I work for DoD and was fixin to start writing letters. No way would I get that much retirement. )

Looks great. I didn't go all the way around. The skull was the main thing I wanted and thought it would look better with some kind of band.

REally doesn't seem that odd. Just giving a description of race for identification.

Isn't it time for a serious talk about low turns??
skydiver51 replied to skydiver51's topic in Safety and Training
OK, that's enough for me. I get the picture. I'm just a big fool who doesn't know anything so there's no more need for me to be concerned about this subject any longer since I don't do HP turns any. I'm outa here!!!! -
I've had the same problem with a JVC grdvm 90u. I used sony tapes in both cameras and only the jvc kept getting the head clogged. I quit jumping it last year and my wife uses it on the ground only but it still has the same problem and the service center can't seem to fix it. Not sure about canon. Go with the tried and proven sony.

skydiver51 replied to skydiver51's topic in Safety and Training
I have reread my post and can't find where I said any everyone who do HP turns and swoops should be stopped from doing them. I did say that something should be done to lower the numbers of deaths from HP turns and swoops. Also read my last post to remster. Every time this subject comes up certain people jump and down crying "you can't stop us from do what we want." instaed of " we should push for more instruction, education, and training.". Why is that??
