Would you assume that a vagina that is pretty much a gaping crater can accomodate greater depth? While not endless, the variations are many. John I just spit my drink on my keyboard... Reminds me of the punchline to an old joke; "Help me find my jeep and we'll DRIVE out of here"... Back at ya! It's keyboard cleaning time.

Interesting. Prescription sudafed is 60mg, OTC is 30mg ...or did you mean OTC sudafed other than walgreens?

Good advice, Sunny! While Sudafed (Pseudoephedrine) is well known as non-sedating (and for many years was the gold standard for treating congestion when alertness was desired) some people do experience drowsiness when taking sudafed. More common side effects are nervousness and anxiety (and dry mouth!) but can include palpitations, severe hypertension and seizures. Most of the problems I've seen with sudafed are with people who are also taking MAO inhibitors (a class of anti-depressants), Beta Blockers (a class of blood pressure medication) or chronic antacid takers (alkalinization increses the effect of sudafed). I suspect you'll be fine, but as Sunny advises, try sudafed on a few days where so much doesn't depend on the outcome. John

MEN-pay attention. Women-you will understand perfectly
flyclearjohn replied to Gravitymaster's topic in The Bonfire
You guys do realize you can have a relationship without drama, right? You just have to find the right girl! True. I was blessed with spending 37 years of my life with the most wonderful woman I have ever known. An intelligent, professional, astoundingly funny and beautiful woman. She lived her life with honesty and integrity. I miss her each and every day. I remember a discussion with her about 'drama queens' and me wondering how they could live with themselves. She said, "I've never known a drama queen who didn't see herself as logical and down to earth." She also felt that men who spend their lives going after women who stuff their chests with silicone, spend cumulative years of their lives reading about, buying, discussing and applying various pigments and treatments to their bodies and creating dramatic scenes to make themselves the center of attention deserve exactly what they get and have no justification for complaint. Most problems in relationships, she felt, were due to people judging others on personality rather than character. -
Hey, wouldn't want someone banned, like for making a joke about little piggies, would you? Those guys stay in here and you got banned???? Go figure. John

Ok, I received junk mail from a singles service today. I just mailed them back their brochure (in their prepaid postage envelope) plus: - Discount cupons from Piggly Wiggly - 10% off on a tuneup at Goodyear - a local flyer for lawn service This is fun! I'm actually looking forward to more junk mail tomorrow. Yes, I have way too much free time. John -

I'm running optical cables for sound and component for video feeds. I could use a DVI-HDMI cable between my DVR and my TV, but don't know what the advantage is over component. Blues, Dave I'm with ya, brother!! Got my system delivered and hooked up yesterday. WOW!! I'm far from an expert but I've spent many hours this past week researching the issue of types of cables and the various ways to hook up the system. What I thought was a simple question turned out to be more complex than I ever imagined. Will you get better quality with a DVI to HDMI cable? The answer seems to be a resounding ...maybe, maybe not . Good quality cables are recommended but the recommendations seem to be that spending more than 5-7% of your system cost on cables is wasting money. There are manufacturers out there selling absurdly priced cables that are pretty much selling snake oil to cure all ailments. Here are two articles that convinced me (for now, at least) to stick with the supplied component cables. http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/122868.html. http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/114333.html I'm most definitely giving advice well outside my areas of expertise and based solely on a few hours of reading so take my advise with several grains of salt. For me, the picture and sound quality is so totally freaking awesome, I have no desire to spend a few hundred dollars on cables that may either increase, decrease or have no significant on the amazing quality I am seeing and hearing now. Enjoy, John

Andy Rooney's tips for discouraging telemarketers
flyclearjohn replied to flyclearjohn's topic in The Bonfire
I particularly like the junk mail one ---------------------------------------------- Three Little Words That Work !! (1)The three little words are: "Hold On, Please..." Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt. Then when you eventually hear the phone company's "beep-beep-beep" tone, you know it's time to go back and hang up your handset, which has efficiently completed its task. These three little words will help eliminate telephone soliciting. (2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end? This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone. This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a "real" sales person to call back and get someone at home. What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible . This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer !!! (3) Junk Mail Help: When you get "ads" enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these "ads" with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their > own junk mail away. When you get those "pre-approved" letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope. Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular 37 cents postage "IF" and when they receive them back. It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was around 50 cents before! the last increase and it is according to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-paid return envelopes. Another one of Andy Rooney's ideas. Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you didn't get anything else that day, then just send them their blank application back! If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on anything you send them. You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing! It still costs them 37 cents. The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the mail, but folks, we need to OVERWHELM them. Let's let them know what it's like to get lots of junk mail, and best of all they're paying for it...Twice! Let's help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, and that's why they need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea ! -

I had no idea this would get so complex. Delivery of my new toys is set for Monday. Sounds like I'm going to spend most of the day just reading manuals and trying to hook the damn thing up. Well, I've got the time. Hopefully I will have the patience. Assuming I am successful, I greatly look forward to the experience. Thank you for the advice, John

I might try the sound track. I saw the movie ...didn't enjoy it at all! Hard to develop any sympathy for the character. Thanks for the recommendation. John

Ahhh, I jst finished reading this. I had thought that DVD's would be the better quality. Silly me. At any rate, my new system arrives Monday. I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas Thanks, John

Having recently retired and having more time on my hands than I ever dreamed possible, I just bought an HDTV with a great sound system. I'm going to rent some DVD's so my quest is, what to rent to really appreciate the new system? Thanks, John

"Huh....we have routinely been taught that alternating the two is fine as long as they are given every 3-4 hours and dosages of either are not exceeded. So I did a quick review of pharmacology, and while they're both metabolized by the liver, the pathways are different, and it doesn't appear that the effects should be additive...." I'm assuming you're a med student doing good research on an issue ...good on ya! That's the traditional thinking. Our understanding of acetaminophen toxicity and resultant hepatic toxicity has expanded greatly in the past three decades. You are correct in that we have historically looked at the enzyme system as a single entity and we now believe that is an overly simplistic view. We now know of different pathways, we know little of how they interact. Add to that the problem of toxicity 'inducers' and mixed function oxidase system and I would rather stay away from confusing recommendations for questionable benefit. The real problem I have with your statement is that it might be interpreted as being OK to max out on each drug, as long as you are alternating them. Avoiding the murky area of 'inducers' you might be correct, but for the discussion of adult fevers, there is no need to even consider ibuprofen as an antipyretic. It's a great NSAID and can do wonders for aches and pains, but it's fever reducing properties in adults is seldom medically significant. "BUT, here's what I found at NIH. CONCLUSION: Acetaminophen and ibuprofen are commonly being used in an alternating manner for management of fever. There is presently no scientific evidence that this combination is safe or achieves faster antipyresis than either agent alone. There is evidence that the improper use of these agents may cause harm. Despite 29% of participants citing American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations as the basis for fever management, no such policy or recommendations exist. The observation that this practice is more common in younger practitioners may reflect their continued anxiety about fever (fever phobia). Until properly controlled studies have assessed the risk of combining these 2 products, practitioners should proceed with caution." Yep, and the only time it should even be considered is with pediatric fevers (which we significantly over treat ...but that's another issue). We routinely tell parents to take x mg of tylenol every four hours and x mg of advil every six hours. This can easily be confusing to parents and is asking for trouble. That's why I say find the one that works (usually advil) and stick with that regieme. "It looks like the jury is still out on any dangers of alternating these medications." At the risk of sounding like a stodgy old codger, the jury is out when it comes to research and textbooks. When you assume the responsibility for treating real, live people, always remember "Do No Harm" Sometimes it's the best we can hope for. "Of course I haven't looked at any original sources" Hehe, would you believe we were using that one to hedge our bets 35 years ago when I was in med school :) ", though. Seems that there appears to be no benefit, and possible detriment. It looks like the biggest risk is renal rather than hepatic toxicity though...." Acidification of the urine and subsequent tubular damage is very real. Hepatic toxicity is much more prevalent and much more deadly. Keep up the good work and best of luck to you in your studies. John

The maximum dose of either is based on potential liver toxicity as both are metabolized by the liver. If you are reaching the max dose on one, switching to the other is dangerous. New docs typically recommend alternating doses for infant fevers as a method for more effectively reducing fever. I don't recommend this as it's confusing to parents and it efficacy is questionable. In my experience, kids vary and respond better to one or the other. If one doesn't work, try the other ...stick with the one that works. In my experience, most infant fevers respond better to ibuprophen (advil, pediaprophen). Here's a quick link http://www.texasspinalcare.com/content/HR_TylenolMixedIbuprofen.php As a side note, if you are trying to rehydrate/replace electrolytesin your child and they just won't drink, make gatorade popcycles. Michele's advice on tylenol as an antipyretic for adults is good. The antidiarrheal advice for suspected food poisoning is not. With diarrhea secondary to food poisoning, the body is trying to get rid of something that does not belong there. Trying to keep it there may cause further damage. With adult fevers, it's simple ...tylenol (acetominophen). Advil is a distant second and Aleve somewhere back in the pack. Drink all the clear liquids you can tolerate. Watered down gatorade is fine. Feel better soon. John, MD (ret)

Newsgroups fever peaked and burned out and that leaves ...DZ.com. A great way to communicate with other skydivers, but it's kind of like having only one convenient DZ and it's full of tight little cliques. If you want to skydive you drive for hours or put up with the kiddie stuff. It's like constipation, it'll pass ...eventually :) John

You can take all the Vit C (and other water soluble vitamins) you want. You won't get any extra benefit from them. You'll just piss em out. There's risk in taking larger doses of the fat soluble vitamins A,E,D,K (and questionable benefit from taking them at all) because they accumulate in fat cells, can build to toxic levels and cause significant problems, including death. John

Quite right. That's why I say ban ...everything you don't know about cause it might be a problem and you don't care for it??? Holy shit! John
