Yes I did. Oh, please LOL. That would be like me saying that a missed zig zag on a corner could be fixed when I found it. Either one (car vs. containers) can and has killed people, or are you saying that no one ever dies from an auto defect? QC is separate. The bottom line is for every factory mistake you make claims of I could name a non-factory mistake. This has become nothing more than a silly argument. I love it when people speak for me, especially when what they say is wrong! My statement would stand no matter which manufacture I bought from. I like the fact of having the manufacture verify that everything works the way it should and that there are no compatibility issues etc. Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is!

Yes, without hesitation. That is like saying would you let the car manufacture assemble your car? The bottom line is that no one is perfect including the manufactures or your rigger. There is only one person that is and that could walk on water and even he was not a rigger! In general, most manufactures will have an advantage over an independent rigger. I don’t know of any independent riggers that have the resources in-house that some manufactures do. How many riggers are ISO certified, have engineering, material testing, quality assurance, documentation, production and a parts departments? On the other hand, the thing I liked about being an independent rigger was that I was not bound by time or other outside circumstances. I encouraged and provided owners the opportunity to pull the ripcord at repack time so that they would know what it felt like and watch the inspection and packing process to become better educated about their gear, how it works and what is done to it. And as far as the manufacturer missing something during inspection, any rigger could do the same thing so that is a meaningless argument. Having an independent rigger do the assembly does not add an “extra link” rather you have substituted a link since the manufacture will not be inspecting what the rigger did. If you want to add the “extra link” then you would have to either have your local rigger take apart the factory assembly, inspect and reassemble it or visa versa which would be the ultimate check and balance for safety. I have been asked and have seen post here over the years that ask “how could that happen?” The answer is simple, we are human, we don’t know everything and we are not perfect. Look at the auto industry as an example. They spend billions of dollars on engineering, research, development, production, inspection and automation, yet there are still thousands of recalls every year, some serious or even fatal. So in the end, keep asking questions, it is what helps inspire us and hopefully makes us a little better at what we do. Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is!

It is called a balanced stow and keeps the bag from oscillating in addition to preventing line dump and bag strip. If you see one of the videos it is pretty impressive. I have about a hundred jumps on one as a main bag and always had good openings. But it is a pain to close as a main bag though. Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is!

$700? That is for an O-ring, right? The 8 station console is around $13,000 and it is about $3,700 per complete unit for each person with a single 80cu in. bottle. Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is!

I don't have to since my office is right in the middle of Lexington! And I can tell you what the results are: There are three container manufactures and all make and recommend RSL's. In fact, 70% of our sport sales and almost 100% of the military rigs have RSL/Skyhooks. Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is! -

That is true, but that is not intent of how or why it was used. I am the first person that wants people to skydive or I am out of a Job! Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is! -

I agree, but the point that I was making is that the choice that you make can affect other people. Then why do I have rigs here from fatalities that I have to deal with? Trust me when I say anytime there is a fatality it affects a lot of people. Don’t know, how many does it take before you do somethig about it? What I do know is that in the last few years we have had skydivers go in on golf courses, cars, back yards, shopping centers, roofs and streets to name a few. All those areas are where people routinely are. In one case the skydiver landed 10’ from a person on the ground. That is close enough for me. And why do we have to have something happen first when it could have been prevented? If that were the case I would agree. And it is statements like that is one that is one of the reasons that I have a job. Finding the “wackiest” things that can cause a failure to prevent hearing the next saying, “wow, never saw that before” is what helps make equipment and skydiving safer. Part of what I do is to make things fail that people say can’t. And I wasn’t making a case for RSL’s rather that decisions that you make can affect other people. Really? Try again, you are making a choice for other people too. I am so sick and tired of people thinking that the universe revolves around them and that they are smarter and wiser than the industry as a whole. So when you make a mistake based on your decision and you land in someone’s back yard and kill their kid or hit another skydiver I guess that decision you made was not just for you and actually affected someone else? And I guess that there would also not be the possibility of hitting someone under you that could have been prevented by a higher deployment? And I also guess that having extra altitude and time to maybe pick a better landing area would be bad too? In the end if you manage to only kill yourself for the choice you made just remember that it won’t be you that has to deal with the pain of those who loved you or have to watch you die needlessly. So, through caution, good sense and safety to the wind because in the end it is all about YOU! Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is! -
