  1. I heard it was only because he couldn't have you.
  2. Probably because you always use the same one that carries stories only the National Enquirer would pick up on. Newsmax is as reliable as The Onion.
  3. Not at all. Name one law that EVERYONE can agree with. There aren't any. Because if there were, there would be no need for that law.
  4. I'd agree with you except that apparently some people DO want to compromise laws regarding basic human rights and allow torture. All laws are the creation of man and are therefore all subjective.
  5. No shit. PBS is supported 85% from sources other than taxes. I don't agree with the current military actions. We should pull funding from that to make me happy. Wahhhh!
  6. I think you're missing the point. He didn't modify his stance. The AND/IF/THEN were used to draw a parallel between the hypothetical proposed and what Bush has done. In other words, the hypothetical didn't fit unless IF/THEN/AND were included. When you do, the hypothetical matches the reality of Bush lying, and therefore, Bill would be lying. It's actually quite logical and consistent.
  7. No, and the military and CIA should have tools at their disposal that the ordinary citizent does not posess PROVIDED there is oversite (e.g. no secret prisons) and I don't include acts condemned the world over especially BY US as being violations of basic human rights to be among those tools.
  8. You made a blanket statement about opposing any ban that costs lives. I just wanted to see if you really meant it. You apparently didn't. You only oppose banning the torture of foreign suspects. It's reasonable to conclude that you therefore condone torture. If you do, don't sugar coat it. Own up to it.
  9. No one proposed a law to say that the CIA can't torture. Cheney is proposing an amendment that exempts the CIA from a law that bans torture. So regardless of whether you agree with the law restricting torture, do you agree that the CIA should have a different standard?
  10. So you're opposed to Bush's restrictions on Stem Cell Research? Yep. What if we find out we need to abort fetuses to get the necessary stem cells?
  11. IMO - I think your position has modified over time. A year ago, the IF/AND/THEN didn't exist. Maybe because he's answering a hypothetical?
  12. Lovely....I suspect YOU. Ok? Funny thing is I seem to notice that most of those supporting this exemption for torture for the CIA, are the same people who argued that we had to get rid of SH because he was torturing his people. Hypocrisy at its finest.
  13. So you're opposed to Bush's restrictions on Stem Cell Research?
  14. i don't...it's pretty easy and I think I was pretty clear about it. It's always wrong when it is gov't sanctioned. And when it is done on a personal level, expect to pay the consequences. Removing any consequences for a governmental agency is a REALLY FUCKING BAD IDEA...has anyone ever picked up a history book?
  15. I don't care much what they think. They're not worthy of worrying about their opinions...they're radical nut bags. I'm referring to general populations and diplomatic leaders, not criminals. Fuck them.
  16. Because there are sick sadistic pricks in the world. It IS used....that's a fact. Someone somewhere is being tortured right now. Condoning it is as despicable as commiting it.
  17. The image of our nation is crucial to our relations with other nations. It reflects badly on all of us. My or anyone elses personal image reflects on me or them personally. If I did things that reflected negatively on others I would consider those ramifications before acting.
  18. I quit in the beginning of August after 21 years of smoking. Was easy as hell. Two weeks using nicorette and that's it. Haven't had an urge for a puff since, and I've been to many concerts, casinos, bars, and even dated smokers. Guess I was just ready. I'm not one of those reformed anti-smoker nazis now. BUT, I have to say, I never realized how really offensive it is to non smokers. I can't walk down a city street more than 20 feet without inhaling someone elses smoke. And getting on the elevator with smokers really makes you appreciate how much they stink. I'm not in favor of anti-smoking laws, but I definitely prefer to frequent non-smoking establishments these days.
  19. No, I didn't cheer for that. And wasn't he convicted of a crime anyway? Again, you condone torturing criminal suspects in the US?
  20. There are laws on the books that define torture. The sleep deprivation, etc. techniques that are publicly known to be used in gitmo and Iraq do not fall under that definition. The question is should the CIA be exempt from US laws that define torture, regardless of what those definitions are. If it's good enough for the CIA, why not everyone? Why not your local police precinct?
  21. Would that include jailing and torturing "suspects" that are white Americans?
  22. Yah...me too..but rules are rules.
