Update on Mom - She goes in for the 2nd operation on her hand to re-attach some tendons tomorrow, then on Friday she'll be getting her hip worked on. Tests were done to day, her heart, brain, etc. are all OK and her right side is in pretty good shape. New on the two boys that were in the pcikup truck that hit her - Broken jawbones, collar bones, and spinal injuries - The truck rolled four times. They weren't wearing seatbelts. Apparently they dropped a CD and both went after it. Don't know if they even know they hit some one else yet. Her birthday is Thursday. Easy Does It

I certainly will! I beleive today they're letting her rest, and they'll be doing some more work on her left arm and wrist. Next major operation will be her hip. She'll probably be in the hospital at least 4-6 weeks. Thanks so much, everyone. Easy Does It

Here's a copy of the newspaper article about Mom's accident. It was on the internet version of columbiatribune.com: Head-on collision hospitalizes three Published Monday, April 23, 2007 A Columbia woman and two Boone County teenage boys were hospitalized after a two-vehicle accident yesterday near Harrisburg. Cameron L. Reasons, 17, of Harrisburg was driving a Toyota eastbound on Highway 124 about a half-mile east of Route E at 1:50 p.m. when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck another vehicle nearly head on, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. Reasons was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned several times, the highway patrol said. He remained in serious condition this morning at University Hospital. A passenger, 16-year-old Tyler N. Petersheim of Hallsville, was hospitalized in fair condition. The driver of the second vehicle was identified as Lillian A. Gavett, 83, of Columbia. She remained in fair condition today at University Hospital. Gavett was the only person wearing a seat belt, the highway patrol said. Easy Does It

Thanks everyone - Mom's humor is pretty good considering the circumstances. Morphine might have something to do with that - the on coming driver is still in intensive care last I knew - If anyone is near Columbia MO., you may have heard something on the news about the accident. Moms left arm and hand will need some serious work, and her left hip. also. With her age in perspective, out main concern is how well she handles the anesthietic. But taking all things, she's doing well. She is a woman of remarkable faith. There wasn't any alcohol or drugs or anything involved, just a set of unfortunate circumstances. Vibes for the driver of the truck that hit her, too. He was ejected on impact and I hear he's not doing well. Thanks and God Bless all of you! Easy Does It

Skip Turbo Tax and find a good accountant. They'll be a little more "agressive" with the deductions, and with the latest e-filing options, I had my return in a little over a week, from both the state and the feds, no extra charge. If I did my taxes myself w/ T-tax. I would have owed some tall cash. As it stands, I got good $$ back, even after paying the preparer. The accountant work with myself and my ex, and got us both the best return than if we did it separately or with any software. Well worth the fee, which wasn't much more that the price of the software. Easy Does It

Absolutely. I have have had no *real* problems on eBay at all, buying or selling. You have to be careful no matter where you go. I'd prefer to stay local with skydiving gear or sell thru the classifieds here on DZ.com. I've purchased 3 camcorders, a D-SLR, a very nice Seiko watch, all from reputable dealers with great satisfaction. Easy Does It

Skydiving Article - Interview Questions
Dumpster replied to poesiekatje's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
1. What led you to want to jump out of an airplane? When was your first jump? How many jumps have you done? Invited by a friend to go do a Tandem jump in Hinckley in August of 2000. Wanted to do it "just once". The following Spring I was in my first jump course, made about 25 jumps that year. I have 520 jumps now. 2. Has it become an addiction, or at the very least, a great love? Why? A great love, not so much of the jump it self but the people. 3. Do you feel an instant connection with others who have been skydiving, even if you’ve never met them before? Yes I beleive we do. 4. Do you consider skydiving to be a sub-culture? Depends on how you define a sub-culture. If you define Golf as a sub-culture, then yes. 5. What kind of people do YOU think want to skydive? Is there a certain type in your opinion? I think we're definitely wired a little differently, yes. 6. Are there nicknames for people who haven’t been skydiving? Is there a nickname for a first-timer? Never been on a skydive? = Whuffo - New to the sport? - Newbie. 7. How do your loved ones (spouse, parents, siblings, children, significant other) feel about your skydiving? Are they fearful? I'm divorced - My kids think it's cool, my Mom dissaproves but respects my choices. Some siblings are OK with it others voice thier dissaproval. Skydiving has been known to put a strain on relationships. 8. Did you take your loved ones into consideration when deciding on whether you were going to skydive or not? Did you consider how it would affect your family if you were to be killed or severely injured? 9. Do you feel that there is a hint of selfishness in skydiving? (I ask this because my Mom thinks I’m selfish for wanting to try it.) Perhaps. 10. Have you ever been involved in / witnessed / or lost a friend or loved one to a skydiving accident? If so, did this make you look at the sport differently? How long after the incident did you return to the sport? What issues did you have to overcome (physically, mentally, emotionally) in order to return? Yes - twice in one year. It made me step back and take a look at what we do, but I was back in the air right away. It wasn't hard at all. 11. If you were the one who was involved, what kind of injuries did you sustain? 12. If you know, what is the most common cause of skydiving accidents? IMHO, human error. 13. Are there different levels/classifications of a skydiver and, if so, what do they mean? 14. What goes into rigging a parachute? 15. What kind of equipment do you need to skydive? Are there certain brands you prefer? A rig - (Main, reserve, container/harness) altimeter, goggles, good instruction. 16. Are you former military? Airborne? Air Force - Never jumped in the military. 17. How would you convince someone that has never tried it to jump? You don't convince them - Lead them to the water but it's up to them to drink. 18. Lastly, please describe in vivid detail the experience and feelings of jumping out of an airplane and falling toward the earth. What do you see, feel (both physically and emotionally), hear, smell, taste (?) – be specific, I want to relive this jump with you! Trying to describe the experience to some one is like trying to describe an orgasm. You just have to do it to find out, and it's different for everyone. Easy Does It -
This will be our 3rd year with the PAC - It's very well worth it. Yes, better than a Porter, both fuel and comfort-wise. Four loads an hour are doable. Easy Does It

I've had good fun off the aircraft at airports w/ my rig - I usually just wear it like a backpack and no one bats an eye. Going through Security at O'Hare has never been a problem at all. Jonny O sounds like a blast to party with! Easy Does It

Love to see the look on your face when a couple sky marshalls "gently" haul yous ass away. Even better the look on your face when you back to the DZ to find few dozen pissed off skydivers. Easy Does It
