Is there a dz.commer you would most like to meet in person?
Stacy replied to Muenkel's topic in The Bonfire
in 7 pages of responses i wasn't mentioned once. kind of disheartening, since i've been around even before the dates in the profiles. ah well. i'd be scared of me too. -

I admit nothing. I am the total picture of youth, innocence, morality, ethics, and virtue.

I've had mixed experiences at Deland as well. Granted when I went there initially, I knew Andrea. I also ran into Kat and Roger from Alti2 there, and thanks to knowing them they got me set up with Carl jumping. I can honestly say that on that visit, althugh it was a boogie weekend, I really didn't feel that welcomed at the party that evening (except for from Andrea). I had a great time there when I returned, although I was there with a team. I've returned there for canopy training with Scott Miller, again it's an excellent place to go learn/train, etc. I too have found that ZHills is more sociable in my experiences and has a family type atmosphere. First day I walked onto the deck there 4 organizers were asking if I did RW before I even opened my gear bag. That was a most welcoming feeling. Different people want different things from a DZ. I'm sure Deland meets certain people's needs, other DZs meet other people's needs. That's why each DZ has it's crowd that calls it "home."

oh lori, can you PLEASE tell me if I shold use an RSL or not? Just agitating. that bothers me too. Especially when people post those incredibly funny (*sarcasm*) email forwards that have already appeared in my inbox a kajillion times since high school. ugh. __

OF course that drive didn't seem fast. It's long. it's like 3.5 hours. ther is NO fast way to get to ZHills frm over here, but going all the way to I4 and back down is DEFINITELY wrong. I won't be there this weekend. Going on vacation in Key west for a little R&R &Rum. NExt weekend, however, galen and I will be camping with our new tent air conditioner. YAHOO! __

i was on the way to the showers at rantoul with my broked up nose and one of the guys on my jump walked by and asked if i had a name yet, and i didn't that i was aware of. he then dubbed me libido. not exactly sure where it came from, but wahtever, it could have been worse! __

flying before diving is fine. flying after diving is an issue. general rule of thumb is if you've done 1 dive (or 2 very shallow dives) 12 hour window is safe then fly. If you're doing deeper dives and pushing the tables a little more 24 hours before flying. IN a nutshell after a dive there is still nitrogen in solution in your blood from the dive that hasn't gotten a chance to off gas (regardless of your safety stop, etc). Residual nitrogen that is still dissolved in your body at sea level could come out of solution form and into bubbles upon the airplane's climb/pressure changes. The more nitrogen in your body, the more likely this would happen. This makes decompression sickness more likely and a lot more probable. That hyperbaric chamber is a long ways away from that passenger flight! http://www.scuba-doc.com/flyafdv.html http://www.discoveringhawaii.com/SF_Medicine/SCUBADiving/ScubaDivingFlying.html http://www.scubadiving.com/training/medicine/flying/ hope this helps! __

oh GOD dont' use those yahoo directions. you are in FT lauderdale area, right? I drive to ZHills from W Palm all the time. Go THIS way, you'll save yourself about an hour off that yahoo way. take the turnpike rfm wherever you are up to Yeehaw Junction (rte 60). Take 60 West to Bartow. At Bartow, you'll take 98 north/west towards lakeland. This kinda branches off once or twice, just pay attention to the signs, it's all labeled. After you go through lakeland you'll eventually come to a road sign that says "Zephyrhills" with an arrow. It shold be a left hand turn onto rte 54. Over the railroad tracks, make a left at your first light (Chancey Rd). On chancey you'll pass ZHills spring water, Sign for skydive city is on teh right hand side. you'll see the DZ from this road, it sits behind Sunpath and Tony Suits. dear god, do not take I4 from where you are. that's just lunacy.
