Paid for the the AFF package before going through the FJC. Bought my rig around jump 20 and after having some mods/repairs completed, made first jump on it for jump 36. Put about 500 jumps on it and still have it for water jumps or as a loaner. I'm a firm believer in buying starter gear early. Get as many jumps on it as you can before buying matchy matchy gear. There will be another noob looking for starter gear that you can sell it at a lower price due to wear and tear and still come out ahead compaired to the cost of renting. The gear just needs to be safe for the type of jumping you plan to do. The gear you want to stay away from is where you will be the final owner. Meaning no one else will want to buy it unless the price is so low you take a huge hit on the resale. I have some gutter gear. On a verrrrry long spot, one of our vidiots took the out and landed on the local golf course, after making a cool swoop right onto the tee box. One of the golfers about to tee off handed him a club. See now guys? Thrillstalker has a plan. Good stuff mi amigo! This is a good plan. Something to consider. Most of us touch our handles in the order we expect to use them: main, cut away, reserve. But if we find ourselves at (or below) our decision altitude and haven't even tried for our main, it will be very hard to break the muscle memory and skip the main and go straight to reserve. Been there, got my two out. As part of our EPs, I suggest as you pass your decision altitude on the climb to altitude, practice going straight to reserve handle. It will build both altitude awareness and muscle memory in unison, just in case you find yourself hurling towards the basement with no nylon over your head. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. I now have about 30 jumps on my new Infinity semi stowless bag. All have been wingsuit flights. The openings have improved to being on heading. I switch between a variety of canopies depending on what type of canopy I want. The Infinity bag can hold several size canopies and can be used as a standard fully stowed d bag as well. While you are burning through precious altitude, what would you rather do, quickly pull the cut away or fumble for the hook knife, hope you keep a hold of it, find the chin strap and maybe cut it on the second try because you had to wedge it between your neck and the strap because the drag on the canopy was pulling the strap so tight it was almost choking you out. I used to use ABS, but found that it would break if it was flexed too much. Have great video of an alti flying off after colliding during an RW jump. I am not fond of using the chest strap because as you move and change body position, the strap can loosen and the angle of the camera will change as well. I have be playing with a mudflap mount for a gopro similar to my altimount that needs some tweeking. Only have a few jumps on it so but it is very simple and rock solid. Just need some more time to jump it to get it set up. It would be pretty eas to mount some type of rail on it for the contour. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You admit that a 150 main is too small for you, but a 150 as your reserve is acceptable? A canopy that you will be flying for the first time, the smallest you have ever flown, most likely lower than you have ever deployed a parachute and maybe having to land out in a tight space. Having flown both, the Nitron will turn faster and has a much shorter recovery arc. It also has a much flatter glide. But it is not a canopy for a jumper with low numbers. If you are thinking of it as a step towards swooping, the short recovery arc will create bad habits. Stick with the Sabre2 and ring out all the performance it has to offer and then move to a hotter canopy. I had two out and had main brakes unstowed before I realized my reserve was out. Sabre 170 and PDR 176 in a biplane, steered very gently having to make a 270 to get to a landing area.
